real_vibes
On shore power we're seeing a dc current alert via our safe shore device. Could this be because our ac is inverted? As I have a feeling out L & N are in reverse. Would that cause stray dc current? Would it also cause rcd tripping? Thanks in advance:
smileypete
Has it always done this? Is there a decent hull to earth bond on the boat side of the GI? A cheap socket tester will tell if L and N are reversed. cheers, Pete. ~smpt~
real_vibes
Hiya - yes socket tester says l and n reversed. To fix to I just rewire the shore power socket he opposite of how it is now?
real_vibes
Also would that cause dc leak issue or is that more likely to be a grounding issue?
smileypete
Hiya - yes socket tester says l and n reversed. To fix to I just rewire the shore power socket he opposite of how it is now? Best ensure everything is wired with the wire colours going to the correct terminals, don't assume the problem is at a particular point. Also would that cause dc leak issue or is that more likely to be a grounding issue? Likely to be grounding issue. If the problem still occurs with nothing plugged in, then it lies in the fixed wiring or the supply. Sounds like it'd be best to get a registered spark or someone equally skilled to help out, they should be able to pinpoint the problem in no time. There's a very small chance the shore based supply earth has an excessive voltage on it, but plugging in at another marina or location would help to eliminate that possibility, it does sound like the issue is with the boat. cheers, Pete. ~smpt~ Edited March 15, 2015 by smileypete
