fudd
Hunter was built in 1996 by Canal Craft. We want to touch up some rust spots around the portholes. Would anyone have an idea what paint they would have used? I know its a long shot but someone may know of the builders or maybe even the boat. It's very dark green. I'll post a picture. You never know! Steve P.
Grace and Favour
You could always send a sample (flake) of paint to Craftmaster - and they'll darn near match the colour for you. Of course, even if you did find a sample of the original paint, the paint on your boat will have changed (with the sun and weather) over the last 18 years. So I reckon Craftmaster may well be your best bet.
bag 'o' bones
Im not sure that identifying the paint is going to help a great deal. It is 99% likely to be a oil based type of paint (as in traditional brushed applied stuff) therefore any oil based paint can be applied without a reaction. Matching the colour will be nigh on impossible with 'standard' colours as the paint will have faded from its original hue. If I were you I would remove part of your boat painted with the said colour and take it along to an automotive paint factor and get it matched. Synthetic enamel auto paint is fine for painting narrow boats and also one of the cheapest paints you can lay your hands on.
