The SVO option is not going to run the world's cars, but might work for a narrowboat - if you are willing to go to the effort and initial expense of installing the preheating mechanism (and a separate fuel tank for the chip oil - you need to start the engine on diesel)

 

You probably wouldn't want to try it on a new expensive engine though...
