The Basingstoke Canal & Wey Navigation

Featured Posts

I don't know why but I couldn't reply to the original thread.

The River Wey is a really interesting cruise. Beware of different rules about lock gates and you will need a special windlass, but the locky at Thames lock will give you the info. Also fees aren't too bad.

The Basingstoke is only navigable as far as Woking, and quite honestly I wouldn't bother, because the best of it is above there, but Deepcut Flight has long since been closed to navigation through years of underfunding by the local councils who own the canal.

However, if you have bikes, the towpath is good throughout, and that is the best way by far of seeing the canal now.
