Apologies if this has been posted before

looks like they're gonna try to make the Soar all trendy. i suspect they're also thinking about a name change.

Edit... I sent them the following email.

Whilst I jest about the name, there is much to celebrate about the Soar, but also much that could be done. (I suggested iSoar for the name)

For a start, whilst for me continuous towpath is not an issue, there are sections where walking access is horrendous, for instance the short section between Thurmaston lock, and Johnson's bridge is usually boggy, and inaccessible, and the narrow "worn" path between Johnsons bridge and the Hope and anchor bridge is a menace to those who aren't lucky enough to be as nimble as the rest of us.

As you are no doubt aware, the GU Leicester Line has a rotten reputation for anti social activity (not all deserved) some of it is real, and I for one have witnessed terrified boaters literally besieged by gangs of youths at west bridge in the city center. The same applies to those who use the towpaths in the centre for walking out of hours. When I lived in the city center I wouldn't have dreamed about descending onto the towpaths at night.

I love the idea of a trip boat / water bus in the center of the city, although how commercially successful this would be, I don't know, maybe a voluntary organisation could run it.

I shall be watching with interest.
