richmusk
Hi, My gf and I would love to have a rayburn on our boat. We have seen oil fired rayburns, does anybody have one of these? Does the oil have to be of a particular type? Are these different to diesel fueled rayburns? Would love some advice if anybody has any experience of this. Thanks Rich PS Does anybody know how much it costs to convert a solid fuel to an oil fuel?
buckley
Why convert it from solid fuel? I have a solid fuel Rayburn on my narrowboat, it only requires attenttion once or twice a day, burns relatively cheap anthracite nuts, doesn't need electricity to operate (the oil ones have a pump) so no battery drain. It's been alight since September, so no problem keeping it going. ..and there's nothing that can go wrong with it. It's also worth considering where you are going to store your fuel, I can keep 4 months worth of fuel on my mooring. I think you would need a large fuel tank to do this, so in winter you might need weekly trips to fill Jerry cans. I think oil Rayburns run on Kerosene not diesel, but I could be wrong.
