South Pennine Boat Club

The South Penine Boat Club are having their second annual Boat Rally Weekend on 6th, 7th & 8th of May 2005.

 

Their first event last year was a really great weekend and this one promises to be even better!

 

A real nice family event if you fancy a day out.

 

I can usually be found in the beer tent or worst ways in close proximity!

SPBC:

A Potted History

Once upon a time 4 or 5 boat

owners, moored at Brighouse,

were sat talking. Someone

suggested that they form a Club.

After a time the club found itself

with 70 members... although not

many members were moored

there, so, the search started for a

mooring site for the Club...

Finally, the present site was

obtained, though at the time it was

little more than a rubbish tip. The

members who visited the site

could not imagine that it would

ever look like it does now.

A meeting was called and the go

ahead was given for the move to

the new site. Work began in

October 1985. The site was a mess

and many hours of hard work were

put in picking up stones and filling

in the dry dock outlet. An open day

was held in May 1986, though the

site still wasn’t much to look at.

After much hard work by

members, the clubhouse was

completed and was officially

opened in October 1991.

At another meeting the question of

the Club's name came up. Several

names were suggested like Calder

Valley Cruising Club, Calder and

Hebble Cruising Club and of

course South Pennine Boat Club

and the last one was the one

chosen... and so here we are today.
