This year is the 150th since Tom Puddings entered service. I have up-dated my 1992 book - Railway on the Water- for the occasion, and the launch was yesterday at the Yorkshire Waterways Museum. You can obtain copies from them for £14-50, including postage: The Yorkshire Waterways Museum, Dutch River Side, Goole, DN14 5TB. 01405 768730. The new edition is slightly larger than the old one, at 25cm by 21cm, and has colour photos and maps, as well as black & white. There is more detail about operation, and for the real anoraks, a list of all the compartments, tugs and bow sections built, along with brief details of the Lastrohrfloss, a somewhat similar system used in Germany.
Bob Watson's book, A Cuckoo in the Curriculum, was also launched (£20 inc postage). It tells of his involvement with the Sobriety Project in Goole, the project named after the Yorkshire keel Sobriety, and his concerns that out of school activities, such as those which used Sobriety, are no longer seen as a positive part of education.
I hope this is the right place for this post, given that it's a sort of advert.
