Hi all, So, myself an my partner are considering buying a 'sail-away' which will consist of: Shell - primed and blacked, Windows, plywood floor, battoned -out and spray insulation, electrics in situ (inverter, fuse box, 240/24v). I will also purchase a multi-fuel burner (4-5k) and install it. Now, im considering doing The plumbing, gas, and installing partition walls/kitchen/bathroom with one other person full time for 2 months and moving to part-time for the following 6. We have budgeted 8k for the whole build and we will be purchasing second hand items to lower the cost I.e a kitchen with appliances can be obtained for >500 on eBay. I have been dabbling in carpentry for 5 years, I have enough tools and access to a industrial work shop with a CNC machine (yes, that's right floral cut-out partitions!) I have also been living on a boat that requires constant attention for three. I can provide a break down of the projected costs but is 8k realistic? One thing I know very little of is plumbing. Is 1.5k enough for a full water system cold/hot: Boiler (for shower only), accumulator, pumps, etc I appreciate this question may invite the polemicists but lay off the pejorative answers! Thank you in advance

I have just upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1 and find that although everything else seems to be fine, if I reply to a post using Quote, or Multiquote, the text of the specific post I am quoting doesn't appear in my reply. Part of the Win 8.1 upgrade includes also upgrading to IE11. Could this be the cause and if so does anyone know how to fix it, please? Howard

Hello all I am looking to get a new build sailaway boat and have had some quotes already, some very reasonable, some incredibly expensive. The company I am looking at is http://www.burscoughboatcompany.co.uk/. They have been runner ups/winners at the Crick show and have a good turnaround time. Is there anyone on this forum who would be interested in giving me a quote? I do have a more detailed spec but in a nutshell it is a 13m L X 3m W widebeam trad stern I am after with a minimum of a 65bhp engine (it will be on a marina off the tidal part of the thames). Let me know as want to get the project started as soon as really Hope to hear from all you boat builders, some of you may have heard from me already if operating a website. Regards Bryan

Hello there, Would anybody be able to recommend a company to fit a pram hood cover onto our cruiser stern narrowboat? We’re on the Gloucester & Sharpness canal close to Saul Junction and have received one quote for £1900 which is a little steep for my wife and I. We were trying to aim for under £1500. Any suggestions welcome! Cheers, Henry

Hi, Have been quoted >£700 to have new gas pipe fitted from gas locker to new cooker and replacement Morco heater (approx 10feet away) They won’t connect to Morco but have no issues installing as far as so we can then do the rest. This includes parts inc bubble tester. It it was a fair chunk more than I was expecting, but maybe I was naive, does this sound like a fair price?

Insurance company are requesting the pre-purchase, out of the water, survey results before offering a quote. Is that normal?
