For anyone planning to visit Stoke Bruerne between 9-March and 30-March please note that there is a towpath closure from the southern portal of Blisworth Tunnel to the entrance to the Woodland Walk. This is to enable the towpath to be resurfaced and to get rid of the undulations caused by the tree routes. There is an alternative route to the Blacksmith and the southern portal of Blisworth Tunnel by following the Woodland Walk and then walking down the steps (or the Boathorse Road) to the forge. The blacksmith will remain open during the towpath closure. Link to CRT closure notice is here.

If you are planning to come to the Stoke Bruerne Canal Festival (previously known as the Stoke Bruerne Gala) please see this link for booking information. I am aware that the prices for food (e.g. Fish and Chips on the Friday night) are not yet confirmed but there comes a time when it becomes important to get the information into the public domain. Any questions please PM me.

Whilst CRT is seemingly coming in for another 'bashing' on the dark side to do with the Aylesbury lock issue I would like to give them the 'thumbs up' for replacing the two broken strapping posts at Stoke Bruerne top lock last week. All the Stoke Bruerne locks (and I believe the ancillary bits that go to make up the lock furniture) are listed. CRT have replaced the one adjacent to flagpole (which has been missing for some years) and the one on the lock waiting area which broke last autumn. They have been replaced with recycled balance beams and I think they look really good. Well done CRT bankside staff and the Heritage team as well. The one adjacent to the Spice of Bruerne still remains even though it is a little bit worn but it seems to be still quite serviceable.

We have just updated the Stoke Bruerne website (http://www.stokebruerne.org.uk). Grateful for any feedback, especially on the canal related side of things, and suggestions for what we might consider adding. NB it runs on a budget of vapour from an empty fuel tank!

I was lucky enough to see Aquarius and Ilford travelling down through Stoke Bruerne a week ago and again on Friday when they arrived for the Stoke Bruerne Festival - they are my copy-write © but if anyone does wish to use them outside of this link please contact me via PM. At the time of this post I am unloading a further 34 images. Link to Album is here - enjoy.

Now that the Stoke Bruerne Canal Family Festival is behind us (and very successful it was) we are now focussing on this year's Village at War event. If you have not been before we would like you to consider enjoying our hospitality this year. Cost is £5:00 per person per day. There is a 1940s themed swing dance event on the Saturday evening at £15 per person and entertainment is laid on from the Friday evening (12-September) until late Sunday afternoon. We endeavour to moor historic boats between the Museum Green and the southern portal of Blisworth Tunnel and more modern boats in the long pound between locks 15 and 16. Accordingly there will be CRT approved mooring restrictions in place for the event. For photos of last year's event please click here Entry forms for 2014 are here. There is a special day in Stoke Bruerne on Sunday 13-April this year (see poster below). The Canal Museum is planned to reopen, following extensive refurbishment over the winter, on 12-April so there's an opportunity to visit Stoke Bruerne, the museum and to take part in the Reminiscence Day.
