Frightened by a BBC news item threatening big power cuts this winter if it gets cold, I've recently bought a 6KW SR2 twin genset.
It runs sweetly on test and its provenance is reasonable.
HOWEVER when I start it, it emits horrendous clouds of dark black smoke for about ten seconds. Thereafter there's no smoke at all.
Now I'm used to Gardner amounts of smoke, but this is like somebody burning tyres. I have a similar ST1 genset which apart from its deafening noise (3,000 rpm) never smoked at all (It's some years since I had the gall to use it).
So, should I be unduly worried - after all, from past experience I'll probably only run it twice per year.
While you're looking does anyone have an equivalent for the oil filter (201-55370) as there seem to be too many options.
TIA.
Edit: It started easily by hand (with some assistance from SWMBO, playing the decompression levers) - I've never managed to repeat that on the ST1 and I was x years younger then!
The method used was:
Wind the engine up - 4 turns of the handle both cylinders decompressed
Drop in one cylinder
When that coughs and starts to run up, drop in t'other.
As it winds itself up to a dizzy 1500 rpm - The Management disappears into blackness (and her language is predictably - Blue).
Afrer a short burst of expletives, the smke goes and so do the expletives!
