  1. Heading for Walsall town arm, just had to clear the prop FOUR times in about 100ft. The fourth was actually weed.

Our guest crew member, Craigie, is more focused on collecting litter, the bigger the better, but mainly sticking to the themes of got wheels or classed as tube or pipe. Personally I'm quite happy filling sacks with bottles and cans but the fellas have taken some nasty stuff out.

  2. Not sure if this has been posted before. They have checked with CRT and have the boat details but specifically looking for next of kin

    "

AT AROUND 10.20 PM ON THE NIGHT OF THURSDAY 22 JANUARY 2015, A MAN WAS FATALLY STRUCK BY A CAR OUTSIDE THE BELL PUB ON FOREST ROAD, WALTHAMSTOW.

No identifying documents were found on the man and he has never been formally identified. Police believe he was living nearby under the name of ‘Brian Wallace’ and had worked as a local builder for many years. It has been suggested that he had family in Sheffield and possibly a sister in Neasden – but it has not been possible to verify these details and no family members have so far been traced."

  3. My prescription sunglasses at the finish line of one of the BCN Challenges (2019, I think)
A cordless drill the OH had borrowed from a client in order to fit our 'lump of oak' seat. I whipped out my extending landing net (previously declared 'unnecessary clutter') and fished it out pretty quickly. Funnily enough, Himself now tolerates be bringing my assorted 'good ideas' onto the boat 😇
Numerous mooring pins, the most memorable being both pulled out while we took an 'afternoon nap'. It was only the blackberry bushes on the opposite side of the canal brushing the window that alerted us to the fact we were drifting away
Bottle opener (on Friday) - the one with the corkscrew. My only bottle of wine onboard actually has a cork! Luckily I am resourceful or it could have been a dry weekend 😙
A packet of cheese and chive pastry straws, last night on the Limehouse cut

Would anyone like their boat wrapped? I have been wrapping cars and vans and working in the sign industry for years. Even though I have seen a few on the Internet I live alongside the grand union and I never see any wrapped boats cruising past. It’s gaining popularity with sea going craft but talking to narrowboat owners, even though vinyl is cheaper than painting there are concerns that it isn’t as robust. Obviously it is incredibly easy to stick a new piece of vinyl over any damage and it is virtually invisible however it isn’t ideal.  But there are some fantastic products available now, that can “heal” when you warm up the scratches with a hairdryer.  They are also impervious to ultraviolet so will keep the colours vivid and stop them from fading. These products have been developed to protect supercars and their incredibly expensive paint jobs so in my opinion would do equally well protecting a narrowboat. To put my theory to the test I would be prepared to work for free and get the vinyl at cost if someone is prepared to let me wrap all (or part) or their boat. If I am wrong the vinyl can be removed leaving no damage to existing paint.

This is something we have been discussing having done. We've new windows going in later this month so timing could be just right

If you are puzzled about the way all the threads keep disappearing, this is how to fix it.

    1) Go to your VNC. Look at the top and click on "Read Status", which is at the top of the white bit of the page.

    2) Select "Everything" in the drop down box that appears.

    3) Now go to the right of the page and click "Save As New Stream". Click "Create Stream" in the box that appears.

Now your VNC will be back to normal, but without the politics. Yay!!

    for me, this worked:

    2) Select "Unread"

    1) & 3), follow as above :)

I take that back, it looked like it worked, until I actually wanted it to work, when it didn't

WE DESPERATELY NEED EVERYONES HELP FROM BRAUNSTON to FAZELEY and beyond PLEASE ... It may be possible she is trying to get to the beginning of her journey

Bess and her family started their canal journey at BRAUNSTON, travelling on to RUGBY, nr BRIDGE 24 for a week or so then travelled on next stopping at the NORTH OXFORD CANAL, ANSTY for 1 night.  They then travelled on to the Coventry Canal, passing between WEDDINGTON and TUTTLE HILL, mooring around BRIDGE 24 Atherstone side for a few nights.  Their next stop was at ATHERSTONE TOP LOCK for 3\4 nights.  Their next stop was BRADLEY GREEN Spon Lane GRENDON for 1 night before moving on to POLESWORTH around the 22/12/19 where she was spooked by fireworks and bolted off, her family have stayed there waiting for Bess to return.

  7. We're also having issues with our Webasto, but think it's a fuel supply issue. Just rigging up an alternative temporary supply to test it (well, he is)

Butlertchnik.com have lots of guides and manuals on their site and also invite you to phone them for technical help

I found loads of wiring diagrams via google but we are getting guidance from Jim's Mobile Marine - he has a group on Facebook and his number is supplied there

  8. Had very similar issues with installing ours last year - himself is suggesting the following, based on his hours of frustration getting ours going

    1. make sure the fuel is getting through - disconnect the fuel line at the Webasto, fire it up and make sure you are getting a little spit of diesel every time you hear it tick

    2. If fuel is getting through, make sure the exhaust isn't flooded - this happened to us. had to disconnect and run it to burn off excess fuel

    3. Method of reset in the manual says take one connection off and put it back on - this isn't a complete reset. You need to pull 'the other plug' as well - bit like completely restarting a computer

We were given the number of a brilliant engineer who very kindly talked us through getting it going on a Sunday - I'll try to find it

  11. We currently have a built in oven on our boat, which is very rarely used and looking destined for removal to free up a bit of space.

We're looking to install a multifuel stove and I am considering something similar to this https://www.modernstoves.co.uk/cooking-stoves/triumph-multi-fuel-cooker-stove.html

Does anyone have experience of cooking with these? I'm thinking  it would only be used for the occasional casserole or similar, but concerned about temperature control on a stove.

  12. We're right by Drinkwater swing bridge (231) on south Oxford. Small dog found on towpath and eventually caught. Has a name tag, with boat and dog name Coco.

He/she is being cared for on boat about 5 back from the swing bridge, boat name Doolally.

Please pass this on if you know the owner, thank you

  13. We spent a week in and around Bristol in august last year, after coming down from Sharpness. Himself wandered up to the harbourmasters office when we first arrived but found it unoccupied or closed (can't quite recall details). After a couple of days we went out to the old lock and weir, picked up our visitor then returned to Bristol.

We saw we should pay at the lock (Hanham?), but this was unmanned every time we passed through it. Both visits there we moored opposite the SS GB and weren't bothered by anyone.

If you decide to stay for a few days in the Bradford on Avon area Martyn, give me a shout and we can arrange to meet up. I might even be able to donate an extra long K&A gang plank.

I live there and have not heard of anything.

Lots of bike (and other) thefts reported on a regualr basis on the K&A Facebook group, also a guy getting beaten up by a group of teens on 14th November
