  1. You can drop the paddles quickly, hold the spindle, lift the pawl (catch), and release the spindle. In an emergency let the paddle drop. If no emergency, let the paddle decend whilst slowing it by gripping the spindle. I do it that way all the time.

Not on the K and A where all the paddles have the reduction gear boxes. You have to wind them back down, about 50 turns! each paddle! There are reduction gear boxes in other places, but luckily not everywhere. They were supposed to make the operation easier so that everyone could operate the system, but some are just a hard to turn as un-geared ones, just you have to do 5 times as many turns!

  2. I see what you mean. But we'd already established that no one was killed or injured in the fire. if they had been, then the joke would have been offensive.

Its still someones boat / home I find it offensive. Athy how come you are standing up for this ignoramus, I'd leave him fight his own battles

  3. .Turns out NB "Chertsey" has them as does Bakewell, apparently.

BenC do you have the boat from The Bargee film? Are there any scenes showing the back cabin?http://chertsey130.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/a-little-light-restoration.html?m=1

Most of the shots are of the butty inside, or a film set, as I doubt the would have fit all that bulky camera equipment in a back cabin.

I'm not trying to create an exact replica of a back cabin, as the inside would need to be compleatly refit. I'm just looking to give it a bit more character. But haven't watched the film for a while so will revisit it.

Never watch a film of a boat, have s few drinks and then ring the owner and bid on the boat! That's what we did all those years ago. ( mind you I don't regret it at all)

  4. Where do I buy a boatman's cabin lamp? I'm after a 12v one not oil, (have a 2yr old on board so don't want the fumes) I can't seem to find one anywhere. Found high line yachting site online, but they sold off their stock years ago, even though they are all still on their website. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks Bem

  5. My old lister engine did this on the Thames some years ago. Suddenly all power goes, then you are heading where ever you care heading with no control. We would have to wait and after a minute or so the engine would blow out a lot of smoke and gain power again. Never did get to the bottom of it. Doggy fuel, diesel bug, it after a stressful trip of the K and A cleared its self. Hope you get to the bottom of it, its not much fun!

  6. There's already a thread about this boat here

    http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?s=9432a5018a01441919d6adf316e9b7a4&showtopic=69787&hl=scam

I think it's your basic "selling cheap due to someone dying" scam, the ad just doesn't feel righ but you can draw your own conclusion.

    K

Google her phone number for the full list of boats she's had for sale
