  1. Thanks one and all for comments. Further to my enquiries I have obviously made sure that no debris etc etc is round the prop/rudder, they both are clear. Reference Bizzard, I will have to check what the distance is, unfortunately I don't no the correct distance.!
  2. Hi Matty 40s, we are off the Ashby, up the Coventry/BirminghamFazeley and now on Trent and Mersey. No change yet! Might try the River Soar in a week or two and see how it goes then. As stated in my original thread, its vibration/judder on the tiller arm, not vibration through the boat. Prop was been replaced a year ago and still has the problem. (Was the same with old prop). I think we can rule that out. Thanks for replying, will have to check if it is a large rudder.
  3. Had the boat a couple of years and since we bought it there has been this problem. Everything seems ok i.e all the bearings for tiller/rudder seem fine - no cracks etc. The prop shaft/python drive etc are all fine (no play anywhere, prop has been checked and theres no cracks or damage at all). What I do experience is when I speed up to brisk walking speed, the rudder is difficult to turn left or right. At low speeds the tiller is very precise. When stationary the tiller/rudder turns full left and full right - no problems. There's no play in either direction, all seems fine. Suggestions of the sensible kind please.
  4. Hi everyone. Thinking of going up the Caldon next week, but we have a roof box on top and have heard there are some very low bridges (8,9 and 10). Has anyone done this canal and have they managed to get through with a roof box. Our height is 6ft 3ins with the box.
  5. Thanks everyone. Did as Bizzard suggested in his first reply and it works. Thanks Bizzard
  6. Hi Does anyone know the tappet sequence for Beta 43hp tappets? I know the clearance and I know they are adjustable. Would be grateful for info. Thank you
  7. Meant to have left this morning for our first long leisure cruise. Previously just moved from Marina to marina looking for a 'base'. Weather not good today, rain and wind. Maybe it will calm later. Leaving from GU Leicester Arm, so we have Crick Tunnel, Watford Locks, Braunston Tunnel and Braunston Locks to do, after that we can take it easy. Don't know the situation at both set of locks although we know there are time restrictions. Going northwards where we hope the water shortage isn't so bad. If we don't get away later today we will hope to start in the morning.
  8. Our Best Wishes to everyone and hope the New Year sees everything sorted out for everyone concerned in this thread.
  9. My friends called at the marina 4 or 5 times from the end of 2009 to when they were finally told it was all up and running in July 2011. They did email before leaving their previous marina to double check and was emailed back stating it was definately ready (this for a bankside mooring). Having spoken to McMaster on previous occasions and he came across as a nice honest man (which we all know is not the case!), because when they arrived there at the end of July, having received the confirmation email saying it was ready. There was no facilities except one water tap up at the dockside area where they were told to moor. They were told that the facilities were up and ready and at that time the adverts implied that was the case also. As DaveG has suggested, we also suggest you read the whole complete thread!. Also any back dated ads in the Canal magazines etc. before making comments of this nature on this forum. Needless to say my friends stayed as long as their pre-payment fees lasted and then got out fast.
  10. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our fellow boaters. Chris and Ron
  11. Just got an early Christmas present from my husband - Thetford Excellence TOILET!!!!! Great looking loo but not the most romantic item!
  12. Hi, thanks for the website links. I am looking into Panorama.co.uk and The Boaters Phone Company. I sure I will find something suitable. If you find anything Humphrey can you let me know.
  13. Does anyone know of a mobile phone antenna that actually works on a narrowboat? Don't need it for broadband as have wifi but phone signal is useless!!! Have one of those you stick on a window but no good.
  14. Just received a Smart Bank advanced complete system. Looking at the Smart Bank 'box' into which wires have to go and connect there is no way to get the wires into the box!!!! No cut-outs or holes. The only holes are for lid to screw to. Anyone else find this and how did you do it?
  15. Thanks all, some interesting ideas there. I appreciate the replies.
  16. Hi, if you were going from Barton Marina on T&M along to Rugby on Oxford Canal and you wanted to take 2 weeks which way would you go for scenery and not too many locks per day? Would be interested in your ideas.
  17. My husband and I were walking along the Oxford Canal towpath near Napton and I happened to glance in the window - as you do! and there was a lady standing by her kitchen sink getting a drink with nothing on. Seems to be common practice from what I have been reading.
  18. http://w32.gammima.ag-removal-tool.fyxm.net/ Try this, click on the link, then the first item in a big box. Its a removal tool for Gammima. Can I also suggest you get rid of Symantec (more trouble than its worth). Download Avast free edition for personal use. For a free anti virus its brilliant and updates itself daily. Hope it helps
  19. Thanks for the reply. Having just re read the fitting instructions again, having first enquired whether this panel is compatible with my Victron Phoenix Multi inverter (which it is), you have to have the inverter switched on as normal for this VE bus control panel to take over the on and off controls etc. All up and running now. My mistake!!!
  20. Hi All, ordered a Phoenix Multi Control panel and received a Ve bus control panel, says its compatible with a Phoenix Multi Inverter/charger. After fitting, thinking it was the one I ordered it does not work. It has to be 'configured'. Has anyone done this? Help would be appreciated.
  21. Hi all Just spotted a program on TV Mondays BBC4 8.30pm - Julias Path To Happiness (documentary on Towpaths on Britains Canal Network). Thought I'd mention it incase you hadn't noticed!!!!
  22. Thanks, that helps. Appreciate the reply. [quote name='Tim Lewis' timestamp='1303318569' post='680291' I know a number of people who have done it but normally in organised convoys, details of the trip can be found on page 21 of the SPCC tideway guide: http://www.stpancrascc.co.uk/media/system/downloads/Thames%20Cruising%20Guide.pdf Tim
  23. Hi all, Can I ask if anyone has done The River Thames and into the River Medway (Tunbridge)? Heard alot about Ribble Link, but not about this trip. Can it be done in a 57ft narrowboat? Would be interested in what others have to say.
  24. If you do change, can I suggest you get Calor Lite 6kg. As well as giving more space they are half the weight! 6kg is the weight of the gas content when full not the weight of the cylinder!
  25. Thanks for your comments Steve. BUT I am not advocating that we buy back street products, just the price of the manufacturers products. I draw peoples attention to page 24 of the latest issue of Canal Boat (April 2011), about J444 engine, read this advert in its entirity and you will see exactly where I am coming from! Good Luck JCB, a British built engine at last! PS. I am definately not discriminating against Beta engines as I have one in my boat and I am very pleased with it. With those comments I am now signing off and have no more to say on the matter.
