  1. Thanks for the prompt reply. Nice to have a vague idea what to look for. The only diagrams of the thing I've found on the internet so far have shown nothing other than how the outer housing, switch and valves fit onto the motor. Cheers.
  2. I've got a Shurflo Aquaking 30psi water pump. It's only about 18 months old and has been working fine until the last few days when the pressure dropped and then it started machine gunning and spluttering water. Now it's a bit hit and miss as to whether it works when the tap is opened but kicks in again after a being given gentle twok with a a bit of wood. I've taken it apart and the housing, switch, valves and drive assembly all look fine. No visible damage or blockages. Haven't tried taking the motor apart yet - no idea how easy it is to get into. Any ideas as to what might be the problem or what to look for if I open the motor assembly up?
  3. Thanks all for all the replies, especially the photos. We're iced in at the start of the Coventry at Fradley Junction at the moment (so narrow canal with limited scope for mooring abreast let alone towing abreast). We'll be heading up the T&M next - after Woodend lock there's a good few miles of lockless canal. Will wait for the thaw and just man up and have a go I think. There's 5 of us living across the 2 boats - 3 of which are children (2 1/2 yo twins and a 14 yo). It's, stereotypically, usually me who moves the boats while my wife watches the little ones. The 14 yo is happy, and more than capable, of sailing either boat but not confident of doing so single handed - once he is happier doing so it'll solve all the problems. We're never in any rush to move far in a day and I really don't mind the walk and doing 2 trips each time - towing would just increase the distance we could do in a day. Thanks again for all the replies - will make sure I post (hopefully successful!) photos when I try it. Matt.
  4. Cheers for all the replies, lots of food for thought. Might just man up and stick to shifting one at a time till we're somewhere wider and quiet to have a go. Will check insurance as well... Matt.

    Towing

(Have searched on the forum using the forum search and google but can't find owt. If it has been discussed before and anyone has a link please let me know.) We're now living across two boats (one 57ft and one 45ft), to save the time and effort of moving one then walking back and moving the other I want to the tow the 45ft one. I've not towed anything before so before I just hitch it up and have a go any do's, don'ts or general advice would be welcome. Cheers, Matt.
  6. For completions sake: Ended up using Chris from Ovation Boat services (http://www.ovationboatservices.co.uk/). Nice tidy job, would recommend and use again. Matt.
  7. I found this was on the Ovation Boat Services website. We're residential. Not questioning the accuracy of the statement but can anyone tell me what legislation says it has to be a Gas Safe registered installer that does the work? For info I also found this list of gas safe registered installers on the CalorGas website listed by area, might be useful to others: http://www.calormarineshop.co.uk/marine_ga...tallers_map.htm Matt.
  8. Nice one, cheers for all the replies. Will do some phoning round after work. It's a single straight run so the only joints should be at either end of the pipe. I intend to box it in afterwards but so the cover can be removed. I assume this would be fine for BSS etc as I'd be able to easily make the whole pipe visible for inspection? Will let you know who we go with and prices/outcome when it's done. Thanks again. Matt.
  9. I've thought about it. I've done everything else myself and am tempted but we're living aboard with our kids so would rather the piece of mind of chucking the money at someone who's done it before.
  10. Hi all, I'm most of the way through fitting out one of my boats and need someone to do the gas installation. Nothing tricky - just regulator/changeover in the locker and a straight run of about 40ft with a single connector for the cooker and maybe bubble tester. We're in the Fradley area at the moment. Can obviously move the boat but would like the work done asap so am preprared to pay the travel/premium of having someone come out to the boat. Can anyone recommend a mobile gas fitter in this/the Staffs area? On the offchance there's noone mobile around here I think the Streethay, Great Haywood and Jannel boat yards all do gas work and are all close. Anyone had any work done in these places? Any opinions of them? Cheers, Matt.
