  1. Can anyone offer any advice to this problem?

I have an Aquaking Shurflo pump fitted with a new accumalator tank. I have basic mixer taps (no thermostatic control) and the shower has started to pulse on and off unless the hot water is hot enough requiring a small amount of cold water to be added. If I only run the cold water on full the the shower runs OK. It seams to me there is not enough pressure when the cold water is pushing the hot water out of the calorifier.

In the future I would like to install a shower cubicle and fit a thermostatic bar shower valve.

Any thoughts what to look at ?

    Cheers

    Hi All,

thanks for your replies and help. At the weekend I tried setting the accumalator pressure but no better. Anyway today I have sorted the problem by (not really sure) I have lowered the accumalator pressure, increasing the pressure on the pump and I also tried adjusting the Square D pressure switch but anyway what ever I have done has sorted the problem.

    thanks again

  2. Have you matched the pressure of the new accumulator with that of the pump?

Can't remember how to do it as the instructions are on the boat.

I'm sure some knowledgeable person will be along soon.

    Hi Ray,

thanks for that i have been searching the forum and wondering if i have set the accumalator tank at the wrong pressure and wrongly by not having the taps open when setting the pressure.

    cheers,

  4. Quick update.

Alternator refitted and all charging ok with Adverc cycling as expected. I will monitor this closely to see how long it lasts. The regulator i know was new as i purchased it and i have to assume the rectifier was new when the alternator was refurbed 18 months ago. Is this normal life span?

    cheers,

  5. Hi,

can anyone help with some advice?

I have a 70 amp A127 alternator with 4 x 110 amp wet leisure batteries that are only 1 month old. The alternator is only 18 months old and I have an Adverc system fitted. All was ok but I have noticed in the last couple of weeks the green (Adverc warning light) blinking. I have also an ADVERC DCM (volt meter) fitted and this weekend i have seen the charging voltage rise to 15.5 volts! I thought i could be the Adverc but once I disconnected this the voltage went even higher to 16 volts!!

Could it be the alternator regulator? I thought the Adverc was designed to prevent overcharging. As usual any advice gratefully received.

Forgot to add i have also noticed the charge light is faintly lit as is the green adverc light when not blinking.

    Thanks,

  6. Hi,

I purchased the dry mesh product and I must say it is brilliant all condensation on mattress stopped. We have been away this week and once I put the dry mesh under the mattress no dampness what so ever which we did have before. I would highly recommend this product.

    Cheers

  7. Hi,

has anyone any experience of Dry-mat as supplied by Shipshape bedding as cure to under mattress condensation. I have tried drilling some holes in the boards but under our bed is a holding tank and the water pump so this probably doesn't help the situation.

  8. I have had problems with my Shurflo Aquaking water pump losing pressure. So as usual I consulted the forum search engine and tried several options and also replaced the pump with the previous pump, which was replaced due to leaking but still no improvement.

After replacing the filter and realising that the incoming flow was very low I investigated further by draining the integral tank and removing the valve and fittings. I found the fittings and valve to be completely blocked with rusty particles almost blocking the flow. These have now been thoroughly cleaned and all is back to normal. So the moral of the story is to always look at the simple things first.

I must get around to reblacking the water tank!!

  9. It's Parana Pine (comes from the state of Parana, and others). Piranha is a particularly vicious little fish, which makes good eating

    in a stew!

    Charles,

thanks for correcting my spelling, its a shame you couldn't add nothing to my question perhaps you have a career in merchant banking.

  10. Hi,

due to a problem that i have experienced this weekend which I will explain in another thread, I need to replace the boards under the gunnels which are a 3mm hardboard type of panel. Above the panels are tongue and groove piranha pine so i was seeking advice to what venered boards I should re fit.

  11. The 3 Cylinder Perk leaps about at low revs (not tick over), also at high revs and I am told that the unit normally has 4 engine mounts this has 6 rubber mounts. There is a small diesel leak somewhere on the feed to the injectors between the pump & the injectors themselves and this is in an impossible place to get to between the exhaust manifold and the block. The whole thing is a bit of an animal. If I thought an amount of money would fix these problems then maybe keep it, but something tells me it could be sorted then a few weeks / months later the problems with balance would return.

To be honest I'm searching for any advice I can get on the matter!

    Hi Clovey,

i have a perkins 3.152 fitted in a 60' trad which has been solidly mounted i.e. on 4" oak bearers bolted to the shell. This apparently is the best way to fix a big lump like these. I had some over heating problems early which we eventually cured by replacing the head gasket. I find servicing the engine easy enough and bleeding the diesel system a doddle and i am no mechanic. The engine has been very reliable

My advice would be to get someone to advise on the price of the repairs and then make you decision.

    cheers,

  12. My sailaway has suffered somewhat from this winter weather in the three months that I've had it and needs some paint. Is there a decent bridge I can park under for a week to attend to this, not a million miles from Milton Keynes, without blocking through-traffic?

    Hi,

the bridge you want is H5 Portway (i think) just above Campbell Park if you are coming from Fenny Stratford. There is piling on the tow path side so you can more easily. I painted my roof under there a couple of years ago and the best thing is you can move out from under the bridge easily when you are prepping if the weather is ok and you can park your car on the verge above the bridge. I had no hassle moored there for the week and passers by were all very friendly.

    cheers,

  13. Hi Dan,

i would recommend the hand scabblers from Brandon Tool Hire and use a grider with a backing disc and 36 grit discs to reremove any bits you cant get with the scrabbler. I think the needle guns will do more damage. The Perago is quite good but slow if only one disc but it can get into awkward areas.

  14. I have a pace sky box and a kerstan dish which i purchased off ebay. I only purchased a freesat card to get a few more channels. I have noworted out a updated card to be delivered and will try again. The problem was i don't think i ever activated the card but sky say it was so i will wait on the new card and report back.

    cheers,

    Steve

Thanks for all the replies i have put the new card in today but it has only started working once i rebooted the box as explained by Peter G's link and twocvbloke's instructions.

    cheers,

  15. We don`t. Once the boat has been linished to bright metal we avoid all contaminants - even sweaty palm prints. We use tack cloths to remove dust thereafter.

    Cheers

    Phil

ps - pushed the wrong bit - hence the double reply !

Sometimes i bloody wonder why i dont listen to people that are in the know. I visited Phil's paint dock and watched John painting and he told me exactly the same only tack cloth. I work with automotive paint and we produce solvent panel wipes so i thought i would use these as well tack cloths. How wrong am i , during this cold snap i have noticed microblistering on my roof and on some small areas luckily not on the main panels. For the record i found the Craftmaster paint excellent and the advice from Phil and John excellent. So the moral of the story is follow the advice that you are given.

  16. hi,

does any member experience problems with using a sky box and a sky freesat card(cost £20). The reason i ask is that i have now taken all the kit home so that i can leave it on mains power so that sky can send a message to the box. I have no electricity at my mooring and only run the tv and sky box off an inverter so it only powered up for approx 4 hours at a time. Speaking with sky they tell me because its not permanently powered up this is the reason for the problems.

Is this the what others find?

    cheers,
