£13,000 worth of fun though??!!
For a further £7k you could get this... now that really DOES look like fun
You just increased the budget by 50%.. Nice if seven grand is that kind of small change for someone.
As for that £20.500 boat, it is demasted and being refitted and only has one sail included.
It is not worth more than a few thousand. If it has a decent engine..
That's nice.
it certainly used to be.

Cheers guys. I managed to get a swift drink last night, but wot wiv having an early start this morning, I had a sober birthday this time. Might pop down for the BCN weekend, for a few swift ones.
Tracey Island... I thought Tunderbird 2 was the cool one. Bit like the Hercy Bird.

Thank you peeps. Spending the day with my daughter, making a papermaché volcano...

I'm so glad I'm not on the canal anymore.

These people trying to make money out of something that boaters have been doing for free for generations, is rather like some boaters wondering why they had to pay for me emptying their toilet tanks.
Not worth bothering with.
yeah.. I know.. their. there... they're...

...slightly disappointed but not surprised by lack of enthusiasm for such a clever idea. Asking people on this forum to (once in a while) check on your boat is really not the same as someone who's buzzing round all the time who is happy to take your messages and requests.
I suppose I sometimes live in my own fantasy world - but it is a nice place
(of course I understand that people don't want 'nosey parkers' examining their boats, but the idea was that it'd be a simple check - 'Yes, looks untampered with and still floating' - that sort of thing.)
...back to the Fox's set, then.
but how would you cover the cost of the plane ticket?

finally..... the voice of common sense hits this thread
cough..

You're putting words in my mouth.
However I'll answer you're question with a simple "Yes" or "No" without explanation or trying to put context in it if you will do the same?
Have you stopped beating your wife?
Yes or No?
I dont have a wife.

If you had been paid to drive over to check up on it, then walked down a muddy towpath to find it listing.
You then phoned the owner and sent him a photo of its predicament.
Would you have the necessary pumps/generators to hand?
That would be the issue, and then the owner would be in a position to make an informed decision.
right. You would then ..
im glad you dont more where I do

A big shout out to the National Historic Ships Register. ..
putting their money where their mouth is. Looking after boats. Just looking after boats. No agenda, no politics. Just keeping old boats afloat..

Ok, ill bite. Would you let a boat near you sink, because they had not paid their fee?
-
When I had my fuel boat, I looked out for other peoples boats as a matter of course. I contacted owners if I knew them, or the mooring warden. I would chuck a pipe into the back of a boat if it got to close to sinking, and pumped out water until oil came out to stop a boat from sinking. No charge....
I did have a financial agreement with a few owners, usually as a result of the free service above, to do such ongoing.
Boaters are supposed to be nice people. A community that looks out for each other. Im happy to report that this is still the case on riverz. Well, big riverz anyway.

In a large oven proof pan add some diced lamb leg, chopped onion, bell pepper, potato, carrot, turnip, parsnip, tinned tomatoes, rosemary, garlic and vegetable stock.
Put in the oven at 130 degrees for as long as you can bear the amazing smell. We left ours for five hours.
Serve in a large Yorkshire Pudding.
The longer you leave this the more tender the lamb will become.
yum yum.
I used to do this on the stove. Similar preparation in similar pot first thing in the morning, then simply stand on top of stove whilst busy boating all day. Good for a quick taster at lunch time, but after tying up for the night, gorgeous. .

As a bloke, im aware that some other blokes seem to suffer from a lack of hair 'up top'..
I am happily not, but wonder if my not cutting my hair for many years at a time, or washing it with 'products', has anything to do with that?
Scruffy? Yes Unkempt? Yes. Luxurious mane? Yes...
happiness? Priceless

Starter batteries are light (weight), used for high amps for a very short time, and recharge quickly.
proper domestic batteries are heavier, and discharged over a longer gradual time.
Forklift truck style batteries are very heavy, discharged to buxxery daily,, and last for years.
I dont understand why forklift batteries or trojans aren't standard leisure batteries on boats.
