  1. Carpets !

We had a leaflet from the boat show which we have lost. The Company was selling long 'narrow' washable rugs & were I think made in Greece. I think the company was based down south ( London ? ).

Any info appreciated as I may get the wife one for Christmas !!!

    Cheers,

    Mark.

  2. Yesterday I was in the queue at our local Netto in Sheffield when I noticed high up on a top shelf the mini satellite system ( in a suitcase ) . I'm sure its the same as Maplin's but was reduced to £79.95.

Not tried it on the boat yet but works fine pointing out of the bedroom window !

  3. Hi,

I have just replaced the glass in my Channel Glaze window. ( Air gun shot through lower glass ) They were very helpful on the phone & brought me a replacement glass to the recent IWA show near Nottingham.

It was a real nightmare removing the frame without damaging it, & then a pain dismantling it to fit the new single glazed glass. Probably the worst job I have ever undertaken !!

I have refitted the frame today.

The problem seems to be that the window was 'bonded ' in place & not meant to be removed.

There is a company Worcester Marine Windows - 01905358800 - that allows you to change the glass without removing the frame ... sounds good to me .

    Good luck

  4. My home broadband package is coming up for renewal and I'm contemplating switching to Virgin cable broadband.

The package includes a free notebook, unlimited downloads and a free dongle with 1gig a month mobile broadband.

If I took this offer I could ditch my separate home and mobile broadband packages so there is a saving.

I know Virgin home broadband is good as I know several people who are already on it but is the mobile any good?

I'm with Virgin.... my home package is unlimited calls, ( not mobiles or 0870 etc) & 10meg broadband - cost £25 / month.

Beware I was told that the BBC I player & ITV catch up would use 0.25 GIG per hour, so be careful what you are downloading !! you could soon use up your 1 GIG.

  5. Well here I am, just got back from work, logs in & finds out that WW3 has started since I last logged on

A BIG thankyou to Mrsmely, Tony, David & Julie , Athy ( including anyone I have missed ) who gave constructive answers to my questions. I was merely asking other owners what paperwork they may have (or not ) received when they bought their boat.

It seems that some paperwork at the time of original sale (from the broker in question) went missing & the owner hadn't realised . After many phone calls all is well & paperwork is in the post.

So I hope to collect in a couple of weeks, I'll update you all at the time.

    Thanks for your input, Mark.

  6. Hi All,

The 2007 Sea Otter boat in question was sold by a Marina as 'ex display', a month after build to the chap who is now selling.

Can you remember if you received these documents when you bought yours ?

    ORIGINAL

    1) Certificate of conformity ( a Sea Otter document ).

    2) Invoice showing paid from broker.

    3) Build certificate ( from Sea Otter )

    4) Boat Safety certificate from inspector.

    5) Appliance record from inspector.

    6) Service book - stamped.

    7) Paperwork showing any history of moorings ?

    8) License - any paperwork ?

    9) Maritime & Coastguard ( MCA ) Bill of Sale.

Have I missed anything, do you have anything else, or perhaps you did not receive all of these.

Any help appreciated as this is a private sale & I want to make sure that I see what is expected in the way of paperwork.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  7. Hi all,

One of the side window glasses of a boat that I am thinking about buying has been shattered, either lawn mower/ stone or air gun !

If I remember correctly it is about 24" x 15" with two bottom corners that are rounded off. Any idea how much to 1) change yourself or 2) have done by ' auto glass' type person ?

    Any advice appreciated .

    Thanks, Mark.

  8. Well Hello, my 3rd post !

I am going to look at / purchase a 31' sea Otter tomorrow. Looking forward to the future ! We will eventually be moored in the Macclesfield / Peak Forest area. Will post more details once we have secured purchase with a deposit.

Anyone a member of the Sea Otter club, is it worth joining ?

    Cheers,

    Mark.

    Sheffield.

  9. Some boats are on the Small Ships Register. These are generally ones that go abroad (for which it can be important) but for various reasons quite a few inland boats are too. If yours is, you can trace the registration back.

    Thanks EH.

I have come across this sale document on the net -

    BILL OF SALE

Any of you guys & girls seen one before. It seems that there is a registry of shipping at Cardiff . Not sure if narrow boats are registered in the same way as other craft. The document mentions ' outstanding finance / mortgage '.... will call Cardiff tomorrow.

  10. Yes it is possible details here- http://www.britishmarine.co.uk/upload_pub/...ark_leaflet.pdf

Unfortunately the scheme was another good idea that wasn't really taken up by boatbuilders and others in the industry which was a shame.

Some level of protection can be had by using a good contract of sale.

    Thanks for your replies, appreciated.

The HPI scheme I was after was one that enquires as to if there is any outstanding finance or any insurance repairs recorded on a boat. Like when buying a car & using e.g the RAC report.
