  1. had same problem with my prop shaft ,as it was only months old ,took it back to boatyard and was given a modified bearing that had a clamp instead of grub screws much better job jim

  3. hi i want to put central heating on my n/b using two radiators.i have an eberspacher 5kw water heater 12volt out of a transit van,(it worked in the van.)how do i wire it up.all i need is an on/off switch i am not bothered about a timer,I have the heater unit from which a loom goes to a silver box,this box has 4 plugs marked A,Test, B,and C. from this box there are 2 looms loom1 1heavy brown wire , 3 thin brown wires, and 1thin brown/white wire loom2 1heavy orange wire, 1 thin orange wire 3 black wires, 1 thin orange/black wire, 1thin orange/green wire I would also like to put a fuse in the line. ps any other tips about these heaters would be a help regards jim
  4. talking to a guy on the cut last week . ,he asked what would happen if you fitted the wrong prop ie left hand instead of right hand, would you have any drive at all. any ideas???
  5. thanks for the help. it turns out that plate holding the thrust bearing was to thin .this flexed when put into gear and the bolts inside the tyre came into contact with each other , and moved the prop out of line.beefed up plate new tyre fitted seems to have done the job regards jim

Hi i have a 45 ft nb perkins 4108 engine prm gearbox . the problem i have is my drive shaft is fitted with a tyre type flexycoupling and a thrust bearing. it has proved to be a pain in the bum .my two shafts are not perfectly in line , this system vibrates brakes taperlocks etc .can i do away with this system and fit two ujs one at either end . has there to be a weak link ie the tyre in case the prop jams eg on old bike etc, have looked at aquadrive type, one cost and two dont seem to have a weak link built in .regards jim

My NB Is 45ft .I Have fitted a perkins 4108 diesel/prm 2/1 mechanical gearbox (as opposed to a fluid box)through a flexy tyre with taperlocks.onto a17" + 12% prop.The problem i am getting is on tickover( as low as poss)i get a thump going from forward to reverse. ?can i slow the engine down even more on the fuel metering unit.? have i got to big a prop. (i dont want to change the prop if poss cost of taking boat out of water and buying a new prop.

  10. I need to trim my N.B. Lead ingots seem to be the best option. I need Approx 200kg. Where can I get them and at what cost.Any Ideas?
  11. Hi RE cranes My n. b. is 45ft .so i got away with a standard trailer . Also i fitted it out in the guys trailer yard and we did a deal.I have found if you own a boat you have to" hone your haggling skills" to keep the costs down.Hednesford sounds a good deal. as for running up and down ladders .You have not lived until you have fallen off a few times. I have had to do a few jobs now that my boats afloat and its a pain in the bum all that bobbing about. give me hardstanding anytime ladders an all.
  12. I hired the trailer Until end of fit out it was a lot cheaper. It was then delivered to water on same trailer and then lifted Into Canal. The lift cost £200 but I had it put in With 6 other boats. It brought the cost down. Have a chat with your boatyard
  13. Hi BEAR If you want to fit out a shell Buy the book" fitting out a narrowboat " It will cost Approx £10 It also Covers Rules ANd Regs . ps I fitted mine out on dry land and Mains supply Its a lot Less Hassle Jim B
  14. I have put two radiators approx 48"x 24"fed by an eberspacher 5KW heater. On my Narrowboat. output from eberspacher through radiators and then looped back to eberspacher. ? How do I fill Radiators ?also I have been told that I need an expansion tank ?Any Ideas
