I run a wickes wet n dry rated at 1200w off an EU20 if thats any help?

Hi All.
Bit of help needed here. I have a 1000w Karcher Multipurpose Vac. A max 1000w Generator (Clarke). The Genni trips when Vac is turned on. I dont know what the initial power surge from the vac is, but it is this that trips the genni. I'm looking to buy a larger Generator. Problem is at what size? would a 2.8kw Genni cope or do i have to go even higher (this becomes a cost problem now). Has anyone used an aqua vac from a generator?

Are you keeping the boat? I seem to remember it was a prezzy from your wife a number of years ago. Cover still intact.

Hi Martyn. The house has only been on the market for 5 days, fingers crossed. Yes still keeping the boat. I love it, but had quite a few offers for him though. Have to book it in for a black bottom very soon.

Hi all.
Just to give you an update. The police have now closed the case but will re-open if further information can be found. They arrested a chap (since let go with no charge) who gave them some information of who he bought his items from. “A tall skinny man with messy dark hair, driving a battered long wheel base, white transit type van” (funny as our ex-tenant is a tall skinny man with dark messy hair and drives a battered white van). The police said there was not enough information to take it further.
I have been driving from up north to car boots in and around the Coventry area (100miles each way) with no luck; many thanks to Chris and Jonathan for the information on Long Ichington Car Boot, “Two women selling canalware from a stall” (which coincidentally is how our other ex-tenant makes her living car boots. She’s in her forties slender with fair hair).
I did call the organisers of the event but due to weather it was called off. The Car Boot is on Wednesdays at 12 o-clock.
Chris, if you have any details of the person who bought the items that would be helpful (i.e. boat name etc.).
That’s about it. I will keep looking and if anyone hears anything I would be most grateful if you could let me know. Of the 250 items stolen only 3 have been returned thanks to the people who bought them.

Mary P on the forum spotted one of my 3gallon Cans on ebay. Police informed and the outcome was that the Seller had bought them at a car boot sale in Stonley on the 8th of June. They said that he will be interviewed for more information about the car boot seller. Both Cans are being returned. It's a start.
The jugs from limekiln are legit.

Thank you to all who have passed on their kind words of support.
An update of sorts. After speaking with the police at great lengths, they have now informed me there is nothing more they can do. I was told if I can bring them good hard evidence then they will re-look at the theft.
I always thought the way to get evidence is to investigate but clearly not. I can’t say much as the things I want to say will probably get me into trouble. Although I personally am convinced who has done this theft.
If I could just ask if everyone could still keep their eyes and ears alert that would be great, and if anyone may have seen anything untoward at the house (3 Willoughby Cottages, near Braunston Junction next to Midland Chandlers) early May please let me know. Just the slightest thing may help.

Hi Everyone. Just a short update. I met with the Police at our house in Braunston, it seems that the garden side door of the building where the stock was stored had been leavered open. This very tidy theif then closed the door put a garden table back against it with chairs around. The Officer did notice that the summer house and Shed (which are both full of our soon to be non tenants belongings) were untouched. We believe that the items could possibly be in the Coventry area.

Are you able to offer any clues as to the ID of your suspects, difficult I know and probably you can't due to legal stuff.
It's a bloody rotten thing to happen , hope the thieves are caught and you get your stuff back.
Don't give up painting, it's hard to start again if you stop for too long.
We have our suspicions so can't really say much at the moment. will be meeting with the police at the property today and I'll post any more news I have later.
Could I just say thank you to everyone for all your comments and concerns. Along with Facebook and Twitter I have been a little overwelmed with the reponse. Thank you once again.

Hi all.
Hoping for a little help from everyone (Hope this is the right section of the forum for this).
Coming to the point, all of my stock has been stolen from our property in Braunston. 3, 2 and 1 gallon Buckby Cans (Water Cans), about 30 of the 1 gallon and about 10 each of the 2&3 gallon cans, 20 Hand bowls, 8 Horse Nose Tins, 40 Small Jugs, 40 Tall Jugs and 10-20 Small & Large Milk Cans. There was also Masthead lamps plus numerous other things. I have an idea who the culprit is but without proof.
If people could keep an ear to the ground and an eye open that would be great. I have contacted the police and the incident number is 289 (15-05-14) so if anyone is able to help simply contact myself on 07534316784 or contact Northamptonshire Police on 03000 111 222 quoting the reference number.
A very sad day for me and has kind of put me off wanting to continue painting any more.

I remember some time ago when Dave Moore left Resolute moored at the bottom of our garden in Braunston. Chrissie and I just happen to be sat in the summerhouse when we heard two chaps chatting as they sailed past.
“Just look at that boat all shiny and new, it’s obviously never been anywhere and I bet the people are yuppies”.
I felt so proud, me a yuppie, and I’m sure Dave would be proud that his hard work hadn’t been in vain.

We are deeply saddened to confirm the museums manager David Henderson passed away at the weekend. A huge loss of a dear friend and colleague. Our thoughts are with his family & friends.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment that an honesty box is a really nice idea and should not be abused, perhaps the OP should bear in mind that it wasn't his cash that was stolen, it was the honesty box provider's.
I wonder how much she has lost over the months and years?
I think whether the money was mine, the providers or even yours is not the point. It shouldn't happen, but it does. I actually offered to return the items we purchased but the lady wouldn't hear of it and even offered to give us more for the good deed, of which we declined.
The lady claims this has never happened before, but her daughter told me later that she has lost quite a bit over the years.
Worth posting this to the Audlem website; people there are likely to be able to keep an eye out.

Of course it's tongue in cheek - but this exact stance is often taken on this forum to defend 'people' who break into boats and steal valuables.
Personally I'd string them up and leave them for the crows.
If only we could. The crows could have taken me I was that knacked after chasing them.
Now, now Terence don't go and get yourself hospitalised - after all I'm looking forward to my nose tin!
Sorry boss.... Have made a start, two courses to teach this weekend and next weekend. Then its back to the tin can alley.

This is very sad.
I often treat us to something from that cottage as a reward for having done the flight. I agree there should be a way of making the money more secure.
It is very upsetting for both yourself and the lady who has lost the money and I think she ought to find a way of making it safer if she is going to allow us all to enjoy her baking.
There is another honesty box midway down the locks on the offside. The items for sale are usually items from the garden or allotment. I bought blackberries there last time I past! The goods are just in an old tea chest turned on it's side facing the canal but the honesty box is a slot into box set firmly into the fence.
I suspect this would not draw as much attention as the wares are often only £1 or so each and there is not very much for sale but the cakes and jams that the lady in the cottage puts out can soon add up to quite a sum of money
We bought some cooking apples for 60p at the same lock. My Wife actually commented on the way the box was fixed.
Maybe I'm just hoping that truth, honesty, and respect may one day return to the human species.

As lovely as an honesty box is, unfortunately, there will always be a bad element around and it is this that people need to protect themselves against.
Had the honesty box been securely fixed with a slot so that money could be posted honestly but thieves unable to get at it, the lady would have taken some sensible steps.
There are some amazingly honest people but common sense does say that money wont sit openly for very long.
I personally would not just leave money sitting there. Honestly box or not, I would have posted the money through the ladies post box to ensure payment had been made safely.
Its not sad, it common sense and it isn't just "this day and age".
I can only agree with everything you have said. Sad really.

The problem with that is, what if the person coming the other way shares your opinion and you both slow down to let the other get there first? Then no-one gets to the bridge hole. I thought the general principle for avoiding collisions was, if you're in doubt about the course of another boat, take action early and make it obvious. As a dramatic course alteration on a canal is out of the question, I would say that should you hear the roar of a diesel and see a bow wave appear at the bows of the oncoming boat, at least you know where you stand.
Hi. I really meant when you are both vertually at the bridge (maybe bridge dashers was the wrong choice of title). I mentioned the towpath. The sensible thing to do is that the boat having the towpath simply pull over as they are able to step of the boat if needs be. Then the other boat can see what is happening and life is sweet again. I just feel that if any manoeuvring is required then the boat with the towpath is better and safer equipped to deal with the problem. But usually they just bulldoze through.

We had the great pleasure of ascending the Audlem flight recently. When we reached lock 4, four young chaps walked passed on the towpath, all with a can of drink in hand, which they decided better to throw them in the canal rather than a waste bin. Now this pissed me off, but the wife restrained me, pointing out that there were four of them and I was but one (sensible woman).
We reached lock 1 and as usual (for a long time now) the table was out at the cottage with goodies to buy, leaving money in the honesty box. As we pulled away with our treats we passed the same four lads walking back. We pulled over further up the canal to see them looking over the table. As they walked away I decided to go back and check. And low and behold the £10 note we put in the tin had gone. Well four or not I ran up the towpath after them (where was my sensible wife to stop me)? When they clocked me they gave it legs at which point I realised I’m nearly 50 (not 20 anymore) and I was knackered.
I shouted up the towpath for someone to try and stop them, but can appreciate why no one did. When I finally stopped, a chap on his boat asked what was happening? To which I explained they had just robbed the honesty box. He told me that he had also just left a tenner in the tin. So they had robbed it going both ways.
I finally went back to the house to inform the lady what had just happened (she was upset).

Sadly, many boats no longer seem to take off the way when passing in the opposite direction. If the channel (under water) is narrow and the cut shallow, and you don't, you put deep drafted boats up the bank by taking the water from under us. Then it may take as much as half an hour to get a heavy deep boat like this back off.
Obversely ,why when in the same situation, do boats pass so far away because I am at that point I am still in the middle of the channel?, I will move over as far as I dare but they move over 100+ yards away, hit the foliage or the bottom near the bank and glare at me.Two foot would do, or even six inches.

This is something that has also puzzled me. You tend to find it’s usually the hired boats that pull over to much (which I can understand).
The ones that confuse me the most are what I call the 'Bridge dashers'. When you can see you are clearly going to meet at the bridge at the same time and they speed up, the oncoming boat usually having a towpath to step on to, but you always end up in the bushes because they feel they were there first. I have now learnt to hold back.
But, yes boats passing at speed happens quite often now.

I'm hoping to get two or three welding jobs done on the boat over the winter so can anyone recommend a welder in this area. I'm not anticipating any of them will need the boat out of the water.
