  1. I live not too far away from the proposed Bedford/Mk link. We are looking forward to this, whenever it may be completed!

I have chatted with some C'cers/boaters and it is apparent that the lack of facilities on the 'middle levels' generally (sorry - I'm not familiar with this whole stretch, but have heard that facilities are DIRE!!) are a big problem. I was able to pass on this info, and hope the lack will be addressed.

It is to be hoped that local voices in favour of great facilities on the proposed link will make a great improvement for you fortunate boaters.

OH! and that you will visit our wonderful Forest Centre at Marston Vale!!

    Free advertising too!

We look forward to seeing a whole new kind of visitor to our beautiful site.

  2. Today I learned how to paint roses and castles on a curved surface. I also learned to paint rosebuds, rosehips and circus tents.

I also learned a bit more about how to persuade my laptop to talk to my phone. I also learned that the Bunbury Arms in Stoak has a great little seat next to a plug socket so I can use my laptop, and that my Vodafone dongle works on 3G here not just GPRS as it does at home.

I also learned they do a good pint of Amstel. A very educational day.

Today I was fortunate enough to learn (thus avoiding the sp bit!) that if BSP and I ever met then I would be the one needing serious help in the translation/comprehension dept!

I just don't understand the techno you all seem to be so at home around!

Ange will soon be back to the svelte size 8 when the rain enables her to be locking!

And Cath - DO please tell?

    hee hee

But I won't tell anyone the really important thing I was able to learn today. So there!

  3. Hands up here.

I was recently fortunate enough to join a dear friend, Cc'er who is very experienced. On the Llangollen. For a week. Bettisfield to basin and back

(Thanks so much to Casp for the parking info..!)

Silly man gave me the tiller!

Well, I hit, thumped, walloped and zig-zagged several bridge 'oles on my 1st chance.

Shed a few tears as said earlier.

But the bridge 'oles are at an awkward angle for novices and by day 4 or was it 5? I managed to just brush by.

It is a quite difficult manoevre. To be honest, as it is so shallow then I guess the harder thing was not to let the bow be swung into the opposite side passing boat.

My friend told me to believe there were 2 or 3 other boats following the 1st one I was passing and to keep right! That was the device that had us aground on 3 occasions! I sure could not have reversed/poled us out of those places.

DOH!! We had the wet June week and the best fun though

I would def go again, but probably at a quieter time.

  4. Not according to the crews that said they had to let lots of water down at Gas Two, only to then be faced with low pounds further on.

If (for example) Slapton to Grove Church is 9" down, as it was last week, they will struggle there too!

WHAT? Like it was last August too? With all that rain in July 09?

  5. Well, some great pics sent in, and seems I missed meeting many people. Had a great time with the ones I did meet! So roll on the badge/sticker etc.

However, we all seem to have lost sight of the fact that David started this thread as he had said he believed he would be well enough to attend. I didn't spot him, I don't recall anyone saying they saw him and dear David has not posted during the pic sending time.

So sorry, David. We/I are/am not rude normally. I'd guess the heat and shortage of seating would have been uncomfortable and hope you are feeling much better.

  6. Parking was £10 a day

And I know I did wrong! Bones told me so. (seems the waterways get some funds?)

However - a pensioner does not have a tenner handy for parking.

So thanks Alan - the walk back was fine.

The fun at meeting Dan and Liam and hearing the story about the boat and car was worth the 80 mile round trip!

    I met the OWLS!!

    What lovely peeps.

    I ate ice cream.

    I chatted.

    Bought a gift.

    Got more suntan.

    MET BOOTS!!

    - oh and Bones again! mwah dear lady!

  7. They were angled just to defy me!

I recently had a superb week with friend on a well known canal.

Friend decided I need to learn to drive thro' bridge 'oles. I hit every one on the first try! (and cried a lot!!) (well some paint work was squandered)(and 'this way' is NO WAY to help a driver now is it? - fgs what is 'this' !!)

I hit several on the 2nd, but they were more like soft sort of bumps.

I can't wait for my next 'try'!

  8. I think I am still leaning towards Sunday. Also my NDN is a bowls widow and she may want to come too. So look out for the tiny two!! She blonde, me still dark haired and both very close to the ground!!

Of the 'Sunday' list, then Bones is the only person I know. As she is not that close to the ground then I hope to spot her before she needs the magnifying glass!!

We just finished a neighbourly impromptu BBQ, food and drink from all 3 houses and great laughs, 4 cats wandering around and now all over!

Yes, I know a boaty BBQ would not end so early, but these land lubbers have little stamina!! However, as neighbours I am lucky!!

  9. Goodness and wow!

This sounds like a mega banter!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

If a 'punning clan' works, then I will be heading to the Llangollen with a great friend.

Let's hope the weather is as nice as today for all of us?

  10. Hi all, just glad you were not washed out as in previous years!

It would easily be a 'doable' drive from here, but the jolly ole pension precludes the petrol and entrance dosh.

Hey!............after me - POOR YOU SUE!!....

Here's hoping some other groups will be able to get together tomorrow. Today was lovely and sunny about 40 miles from Crick, and the forecast is for another fair day on Monday.

Please keep your fingers crossed for a similar forecast when I will be able to join a good friend in a week or so, to DO the Llangollen - well a part that includes the scenic-ist bits!!

    I am so looking forward.....

  11. Oh dear!

This is one of the reasons that I KNOW I could never have a boat to live in a marina!

Guess I will just stay on land, knowing that my bathroom is 2 rooms away from the next door peeps. And that we are good friends.

3" away from 1 window and maybe 2' from another? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! That could never be for me, sorry!
