  1. Sorry for the delay in replying but we have been in a dead spot for a few days. Thanks for the data. It does look a bit like the first rubber thingy from Midland Chandler. The two openings though are one inch and two inches. i will just have to call in and see what can be done. There is a pic of the item on my blog at http://nbabigailjenna.blogspot.co.uk/search?updated-max=2012-05-06T22:22:00%2B01:00&max-results=7 Its the Newbury to Hungerford one. Did a Fred on the ones on the engine Called Fred after my father who could fix anything so that it would work for a limited time until he had to do it again In this case by sticking a section of bicycle inner tube over it.
  2. Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of a rubber reducer from 2 inches down to 1 inch over a length of approx 4 inches. The gearbox oil cooler has two of these and I can't find anyone that recognised them let alone knows where I can get them from. Water from radiator goes in at the 1 inch end and the reducer is attached to the oil cooler at the 2 inch end. i would up load a pic but haven't managed to figure that via the http address. To be worked on.
  3. Sadly they wont get very far with a restoration will they. I was brought up by the canal at Taffs Well and allong along that stretch it is under the A470 (I think thats the road number)
  4. On the outskirts of Thorne waiting for the Moores Swing Bridge to be sorted. The drinks can wrapped around the prop shaft has been working perfectly. Calling into the Thorne Boat Services to get a new drive sorted out so that should fix it permenantly Thanks to all.
  5. Thats true. The key was missing but I found recently that one of those square metal items that go between door knobs fits in just nicely. I will try the can and the jubilee clip and let you know the result. At the moment I am near Newark and hope to get to Thorne Boat Services. It all OK as long as I don.t go astern :-)
  6. Thanks for the suggestions. I seem to remember from the very dim and distant past about putting sandpaper round it as the sand would bite. The problem I think is that I hadnt realised that although there was a key way there was no key fitted. Ifor
  7. The prop shaft on my narrowboat has a clamp with a key way. However for some reason I can't tighten the clamp enough - the clamp does go top face to bottom face with nothing left to screw down - Recently when I go astern on more than tick over the shaft becomes disconnected. Anyone got any ideas on how to stop this happening long enough to get to a boatyard to fit a new drive shaft.
  8. On the other hand = keep an eye open for someone travelling in the same direction as you and share the work. Ifor
  9. I also think that as a boat goes by a fisherman the fish get confused and grab at the food. The number of times that I have come up to a fisherman and the fish has bit just at that moment can't be a coincedence.

  14. As a CC can I also say that BW are very happy for you to stay longer if you have a valid reason. I broke down for four weeks on a 24 hour mooring. I kept in touch with the lock keeper at Torksey and no problems whatsoever with over staying my welcone.
