Thanks for the info .
re the gear control I may need to ask you for some measurements. I know I need the measurement between the boats bottom and the underside of the bracket that supports the vertical rod from the large gear wheel .
Any body else who can supply this measurement, I’d be grateful if you’d add it to this threadBefore I go . Have you got a door in the bulkhead . I had a half door on Halsll .

OH ( insert string of swear words of choice ) what were they thinking of .
How did you make your replicas . I have to solve this puzzle . I have ideas but I’m always curious to find out how other big northwich folks tackle things .
have you still got the original gear control fitted . What gearbox / engine combo do you have .
-
fittie , what did you do with Lancings old knackered fuel caps .

Jerra I agree totally about the selling off of social housing .
MTB , housing is too important to be a free for all with the highest bidder winning . It's ok for our age group but the younger people , Generation rent as some describe themselves are struggling to get near the housing ladder.
I have some sympathy with the NBTA stance here . I'd be mightily hacked off if I was being kept off a residential mooring by somebody who had a house to live in. However I do believe in waiting lists , expecting to skip the que isn't a plan other than in truly exemption all circumstances.

Bit radical but they are the balance weight for the Daily Mail contingent . The sensible solution is usually some sort of fudge in the middle.
Building more affordable homes is the answer to all these problems but such a sensible approach is beyond the ability of the self serving muppets in the government .

Thanks for posting those , of great interest to another Northwich owner.
ETA . Is it not possible to get the tanks out . Steam cleaning would be a viable option if you could dig out the crud first .
-
Looking through Daniels post there's a section buried in the middle that is most concerning . This relates to activity outside of the site such as personal abuse being directed at site staff.
Stalking on line and in person , abusive threatening phone calls , invasions of privacy , malicious acts . Everything else is just stuff but that list is capable of real world harm to a real live person.
To be honest I think there's a place for a lightly moderated CWDF and an unmoderated Thunderboat . People can choose to belong to both or only one .- 3

Static display isn't a bad idea to be honest . Wooden boats are a major commitment and not many people are able or willing to take them on. It would have been a better solution for Some of the wooden wide beam boats slowly decaying while still afloat.
-
That's a rough deal . Hope this person doesn't get to own the pub .
Theres a marina that offers half price moorings for historic boats , think it might be Alvecote .
-
Just out of interest how do you get rid of a wooden boat . There's an awful lot of good firewood in one but I suppose an awful lot of metal fastenings too .
I've seen photos of wooden fishing boats just abandoned on the beach with all the valuable bits stripped out.
-
Have a quiet look at how things work in your intended new Marina , just general chit chat about boats and see what gets revealed or what you notice.
If you have a residential address and your post goes there then presumably it's a very grey area for everybody.
FWIW where I moor has a time limit on the number of nights a leisure moored can sleep on board . There are some people sad enough to check up on others which is really quite depressing .

I wonder if some people just got caught in the crossfire of something pretty nasty involving a very small number of members ?
If I honest I have to say I'm glad the political threads are gone , I come here to get away from the real world . I used to avoid reading them mostly . Others no doubt miss them which is an equally valid point of view .
Iam sorry the CRT threads have gone , it's a valid point of discussion and likewise I miss Tony Dunkley . I was a bit surprised to see Loafer and JohnV among the departed . However I only know what I read on here so haven't got the full story .
I personally wouldn't be a mod for all the tea ( or scooters ) in China . Thankless task .
Jokes about sheep and various nationalities , are they anymore offensive than some of the regionalist stuff that gets slung about . Critiscism of accents , comments about gene puddles and "normal for " a certain east of England county. People are pretty good at being offensive all round , what's the whole " ginger " thing about . Why is having " fire engine blonde " hair so funny ?
Well I can think about that lot in the vets waiting room this afternoon . I'd far rather be needle gunning rust on this fine afternoon instead of trying to sort out heaps of junk and wasting time on the Internet.

It's like this biggles47 . I can wander off if I'm bored, I've done it before . Having a life kind of gets in the way of arguing on the Internet .
However I think Matty deserves some input to his thread, he asked for opinions and got mine.
Nobody on here controls me ,have you tried herding cats Anyway why are you here if it's all so bad ?
ETA . I'm here because I know some of the people in real life and I like the History and Heritage threads and some of the technical stuff
-
No advice . Be sure to report back if you find a good way of doing this. Are your tanks out as well as the engine.
-
Wire brush . Hoover up the resulting mess , there will be lots . Rust treat , prime and paint . Make sure to get a couple of gloss coats on to seal it .
-
Bring on the fruit loops , it's gone a bit dull of late. Fluffy bunnies are a good alternative to cat food . Fluffy bunny curry , yum.
Leave out the real nasty stuff, suspensions and bans are the best way to deal with the really evil customers.
I do have a very thick skin but there are some things that press my buttons .
I think a sin bin into which all argument threads could be dumped would be a better idea , everybody could chose to read or avoid.
I'm a bit mystified why so many threads are locked , seemingly un controversial topics too. Is there some mischief making going on ?
-
I'm missing some of the general lunacy that used to go on here. I drop in when I feel like it and wander off for a while if there's nothing interesting going on.

I'm pleased Southall is getting a coat of looking at .
-
You did indeed say where Naburn was when you photographed it but ended your post with something along the lines of " where is Naburn now ?"
Chertsey has now confirmed that it's not gone far , ie still at Tinsley .
How could I have forgotten Southall, at one time I was hoping I might be able to buy that one for restoration . I have some old photos somewhere of it on the bank but they are prints and not digitised.
ETA , I forgot Sudbury too in spite of making a fairly long car trip into new territory to go and view when the boat was for sale .
It's probably well known that my memory can be unreliable .
-
At long last somebody has found Naburn for me . I'd had an obsession with shortened big Northwich boats for a very long time and once asked on here I think .
List ( what I can remember ). Naburn . Purton . Oakley. Tipton . Paddington . Renton . Kenilworth . Saltaire ( rear portion )
Now off tO have a think . Will edit post if I think of any more . I hope Pete H will add some detail to this discussion.
ETA Renton and Kenilworth I think were cut shorter I think . Also just thought of Staffordshire knot / Usworth ?

I like the Oldbury style decoration, the cabbage roses have a certain charm .
-
Shame , I used to love the Bridgewater and enjoyed a trip to Manchester.
Slightly off topic but is the tank swung off at night, does any ships come that far up the ship canal now.

Another satisfied customer for M & S thermals here.
I've got some cheapie grey thermal T shirts from the market as well which are fine for work. Cheap enough not to care about getting scruffy.
I don't do cold so it's lots of layers to keep me warm in winter.
-
If you enjoy a project and want to do this then go for it. The nearer to home your boat is the better for getting stuff done . You will learn a lot.
Good luck

Thanks fittie .
I will no doubt be asking various assorted other questions in this forum as I’m playing catch up with my project after Covid and then dealing with end of life care for a very loved one .
