  1. After stripping the engine it has now been declared dead. Too much internal wear and damage. It would take too much money to rebuild and too many parts needed, some of which we haven't been able to find. Something has seized in the governor so I'm surprised it ran. All the bearings are worn etc. Anyway it's dead... So now to find another engine. Pics to follow when I'm home. Casp'
  2. Partly correct, it was more heat and just ages with a puller.. This is the thing, Got to clean it up and make sure it hasn't suffered any damage.. Casp'
  3. The crank timing gear is now off... ?
  4. Spoke to a chap who's rebuilt a vsh, he made a gear removal tool himself using some threaded bar.. Unfortunately the vsh and vth don't have the same size thread so I can't use his, maybe I'll have to make my own too. Casp'
  5. Putting it on won't be an issue if I can't get it off.
  6. Ok, sounds like i need to find one of them, probably to rent as expect they never come up for sale.
  7. I may sell my 2dsm to make space and money for the 2vsh. Casp'
  8. He has a manual. He says he's going to keep thinking about it.. I can see me buying that fully rebuilt 2vsh I know someone is selling.. Casp'
  9. He says he's tried heat. I think he's given up.. So now I've got an engine in bits. But I have cleaned and painted the engine room...
  10. Most of the engine is now stripped-down, but the crank timing gear is stuck. Chap has tried everything he can think to remove it, and he has some kit to do it, but it's not moving. Can't get the crank out with it on.. Casp'
  11. Not the ideal weather for taking the roof hatch off.. Casp'
  12. Spoke to my mate, he says he's used a company in Coventry before to do regrinds.. I think adding metal to then grind down is fairly standard practice. Casp'
  13. I'm now wondering which part of my post you are answering with "yes" Casp'
  14. Have you got a link please? When the seller sent me pics of his 1VSH is was obvious that it was actually a 1VTH, the brass engine plate saying 1VTH gave it away ... I'm still on the; completely rebuild my engine route as this will involve no alterations to the ancillaries. My engine did sound nice too.. Anyone know a company that can regrind cranks.. my crank shaft is 38.5" long.. Casp'
  15. I wish I had built the wall between the engine room and the back cabin a bit easier to remove..It is hollow with all the cables going through it to the fuse board and back. Those wires are all going to be in the way.. Casp
  16. My 2VTH, being an industrial unit, is governed to 1000 rpm and gives 10hp at that. The 1VSH is 11 hp at 1500 rpm. A marine 2VTH is 15hp at 1500 rpm. Casp'
  17. It would be powerful enough, but I suppose I should replace it with another water cooled engine. Thanks. The gearbox is remote, under the back cabin floor. I left just enough room to be able to get past the engine, but I wouldn't want to do it with the engine running...
  18. I think this picture demonstrates the requirement for a small engine.. Casp'
  19. If someone decides to hold a banter there in a year or so, I will need a lot of notice to attend. I normally need a lot of notice but now I have no engine I will need even more.. Casp'
  20. Mine is iron and very heavy. It has a single flywheel with a large pulley the other end. It came from a farm where it ran a lighting plant. There is now talk of rebuilding it. I think it would be easy if it wasn't for the bearings on the crank that need regrinding, that means the engine has to come out.. I've now been offered a 1VSH which I would like, but I would probably have to do a lot of work on that before fitting too, it would pop nicely though... Casp'
  21. Speaking with my mate, who does engines, we are going to get this engine out and have a look at the crank. Although it may be cheaper to buy another engine, I may just have this one rebuilt as at least then all the connections etc will fit without any work. I'm told the cost of a total rebuild is somewhere between 1 and 2k, depending on the work needed to the crank. Suppose at least then i'll know it's been done. Unless a nice one pops up for sale before then.. Casp' What type is that? My 2VTH is water cooled.
  22. Indeed, my boat is at it's mooring, so there's no urgency, just wont be chugging about this summer. Can't decide whether I should start the process of removing everything that is now blocking the roof hatch, which is a wall, header tank and roof lining.. Suppose I've got to start sometime.. Casp'
