  1. I have lots to look forward to then 😅
  2. Is that safe though? To have a fire going for so long unattended? That's exactly what my mum says 😂
  3. That was my origional plan. To have a residential winter mooring for the exact reasons you specified. I want to stay around the Oxford and Reading area during winter. I did look at some marinas but the prices where so expensive! About 50% of the boat purchase will be from a loan. Its possible I wasnt searching properly 😅. Yes I gave myself 2 years to prepare financially, so I will also have a comfortable pot of savings The webasto is central heating system for the boat? Is it worth having? Yes that was my origional plan, but the area I wanted to huddle down in during winter (Reading/Oxford) was really expensive. Its possible I wasnt looking properly! I will also have a loan to pay for 50% of the boat
  4. I will be joining a nursing agency and NHS professional bank so I can pick and choose where/when I want to work. So I will need to plan ahead and tell the agency what area i will be in for that period. And be smart on where I will moor for the 2 weeks and ensure its either close enough to public transport, clear direction for taxi or walking distance. If its difficult to get to then I won't book any shifts at certain sites. So every shift will be a different ward or hospital yes. I will be earning more as agency, so it's possible I won't need to work as many hours as I do now. I already travel and hour for work so commuting is not new for me. unfortunately, i dont have any other qorking experience, just nursing. But it can be incredibly flexible and can go anywhere with it 😊.
  5. That's perfect advice, will have a look thank you. That's why im starting early to get a full understanding now.
  6. It's not every day, just 3 times a week, but in the height of summer I plan to have around 6 weeks off work with the odd shift here and there. How long roughly will the battery last once powered to full and with only a low volt fridge/freezer and low volt heater?
  7. Thank you, sounds very positive. May I ask do you have guinea pigs or rabbits? Unfortunately I will be cc'ing for the first few years so I won't be connected to shore power but hope the boat will already have solar panels, if not will plan to get them as soon as possible. How safe/practical is it to keep a fan going for the day on battery power with solar panels? Also, I hear the boating community is very helpful. Would it be cheeky to ask a neighbour to pop in during the day to swap over covered ice bottles? Also, how do you find the space to fit in a decent sized hutch? It's just me so planning on a 45ft, maximum 50ft. Also, what do you do in regards to registering with a vetinary practice if always on the move? Thanks 😊 Thays great, will have a look thank you 😊
  8. Hi, I will be getting my first NB in the spring. I have 2 indoor guinea pigs who I love dearly. I have been planning to bring them with me. They are both pretty good at quickly getting used to new things but was wondering how doable and safe it will be for them? My biggest concern is keeping them cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather, especially when im at work. I will be joining a nursing agency, so will be gone for around 14 hours a day 3 times a week and worried about maintaining temperatures when im not there. I'm just curious to hear some feedback and experiences from people who have/had guinea pigs or other small rodents on boars. Thanks 😊
  9. Yes, I think local hospital work is my best bet. Plus I wouldnt have to worry to much about poor Internet. Agreed, it would get very lonely. Thanks for the reply 😁 I'm with Nuffield Health now, and correct, not paid to much difference, but bank pay is better, patient to nurse ratio and free private healthcare with Bupa. I just looked, and there is an app to book bank shifts across all sites. No need to look for another job, just in house transfer to bank. Thank you all, for the kind and thoughtful responses. I've done a full circle but the information provided was helpful 😄
  10. Thank you I will look into that. I currently work for Nuffield who are dotted around the country so would be easy for me to transfer to bank on multiple sites so will do that plus the odd agency 😄
  11. No need for foolish comments 😬
  12. I only have nursing as a skill set. And to retrain I would have to pay alot of money for. Money im saving for the boat life so its not an option. I've worked A&E, AMU, ITU, and now in a cushy private elective surgery. Ideally I wouldnt want to go back to the first 3. But I'd sacrifice working anywhere so I can get the money to be free for the summer. Give to take and all that 😅 I've always dreamed of an "off the grid" and simple life but the thought of such a big change scared me. But my friend got her boat not long ago and its given me the oomph to know its very possible. Though I thought more of campervan then boat lol. I'm giving myself a year to learn as much as possible. And plan to do a basic training course next spring plus my friend is letting me stay with her on her boat for a bit later this summer so I can really get a feel for it.
  13. Thanks for the response 😃 CC as a beginner during winter scares me haha. But didn't think of seasonal work in the local areas. Im sure thier are some agencies that do quick temp positions. I have a little saving and will build on it in the next year. Ideally I wanted out of nursing, but yes, working lots throughout autumn/winter as agency/bank will give me plenty of money for summer. Additionally, it offers the freedom of not being bogged down during summer. I have tons of nursing experience so I can pretty much work anywhere 😁
  14. I had lots of spelling mistakes? Good thing it isn't an option then 😅
