  1. All such positive vibes so far for it. I'm not too concerned about the engine and long travel in just yet as just want a home thats affordable and not 4 boring walls with a small or no garden ... boat life calls me ... either that or a van or land haha
  2. No problem for me a decorator by old trade so not shy of handy work
  3. Thank you so much. That's reassuring so hope my viewing goes well. Sad the family couldn't keep it as wish my family had kept theirs ..
  4. They got back to me about prices and seems reasonable at 2.5k to 4k especially if its my life time on the boat at least next 15years before I can consider ditching the office work life anyway and be a bit more a real life boater... they also mentioned filter changes for most are around £150 to £300 a year
  5. Thanks again all above great info. I want a residential mooring close to peterborough and not many marinas this end that ate close enough for me to still cycle to work but have found a few longterm moorings on the banks around peterborough that are suitable for now like Whittlesey and a bit closer to work.
  6. This is my hoping 🙏 I've been river swimming here all my life so I should at least have a good human filter already haha no 'nene (delhi )belly' for me
  7. I'm waiting to speak with them after this bank holiday to get a better idea of the costs from them directly so I will keep you posted. I will be based on the nene if that makes much of a difference for my filters 🙃 so hopefully they have more Info on that for me.
  8. Hi all. Here is the water filter system I'm looking at. https://waterfreedom.co.uk/ . I mainly want my boat to live on staticly until my holidays come round as I will still need to work at home and office. Not many residential moorings close to peterborough are available so marina will not be on the cards for me so having taps close by with a small size water tank would not worry me if I had this water filter system in place depending how much they cost compared vs diesel and time is something I still need to consider. Your all so helpful ☺️ the reviews are pretty reassuring.
  9. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have a read up about the above. I do plan to live on this so would that make much of a differencewith the water taps, tanks etc. I may not have a marina mooring either but fingers crossed when I go to view, and made a decision, I should have more of a safe location other than just on a private mooring. I will also be mainly stationed like a floaty flat as will be working from.office and home. So I will not be a long distance cruiser just yet. When I have been looking at narrow oats, I want to add the water system that comes from the canal so I don't have to do much moving or any at all moving for water every couple of weeks. Not sure if this system would fit this type of boat. I will also be asking that firms directly about the filter system and what their limits are.
  10. It is a Morgan Giles made in 68 I believe. I've read a bit about water cooled engines and do hope it's not this but once I've made the visit, I can get the Info needed as I won't be jumping straight in for sure. This is all it really gives me in the description.
  11. She sure does all the quirks of a narrow inside with stove makes it quite unusual. Not seen one before myself so any guidance on winterizing and dewinterising is something I will likely need advice on. Thanks again x
  12. The wash has a great memory for me and the lock keeper dropped his keys in the lock and luckily my grandad had the sea magnet ut the keys and his magnet got stuck against the lock it self so we were stuck for over an hour ... we made it through before the tide went again
  13. Hi there. Their boat was called Jones (both their first names combined )and they are John and Nesta Stretton from stilton. Sadly my grandad passed 10 years ago but nan is still with us. They had a green and yellow 57ft with a picture of an oakapple and when they stopped continuous cruising they stopped at Coventry in Ansty. I most certainly will. Thank you. Hopefully she's the boat for me ...
  14. Just want to say this was a great read and really appreciate the info. I'm no stranger ger to narrow boats as my grandparents were water gypsies for the last 20 years of their retirement and been on boats from age 9. Now hitting 40 I want my own boat rather than a house and been torn between the NB or the GRP narrow beam I have come across... going to view it next weekend so this has helped me feel more comfortable in thinking this could be the one as its a rare find with in board diesel and 42ft with a stove ... ill keep you updated if your still on here 😉
