  1. Hi all Thanks for your advice - we ended up in Peterborough on Saturday night, made our way back via Whittlesey for Sunday lunch. A fun time was had by all and the weather turned out to be really good! Only problem, which we forgot to tell Fox Boats about, was that when we set off, one of the boats' water tank hadn't been filled up! We struggled on and only got water when we got to Peterborough...
  2. Thanks for the reassurance. My main worry now is that I will end up on the tiller for the whole time as I am one of very few who has any idea what they're doing! Despite the fact that I almost never normally 'drive'... I can't even think of what the right word is... drive? steer? skipper?
  3. The forecast keeps changing! But, erm, I guess it could be worse...
  4. That is a great idea... but impossible.
  5. Thanks for your replies - very useful. I think it best that we do stick to the Middle Level but it's hard to put together a route that will put us in the right places (ie pubs) at the right times (Saturday night and Sunday lunch specifically). Saturday night in Whittlesey and Sunday lunch in Upwell would mean a very early start on Sunday which I fear would not be too popular... not least with myself! I guess that we'll just have to consult the waterway guides when we get there - there's nothing on the net to rival the Nicholson or Pearson in terms of turning points, pubs etc.
  6. I'm entirely aware of how cheeky it is to register on the forum just to ask for some advice, apologies, ignore me if you want... But I have very little time! This weekend I am going on a stag weekend on a boat, starting in March. I know what you're thinking, but I promise, no passers by shall be abused nor fellow canal users' dogs eaten. The problem is that the route that has been planned by the groom (to Ely and back in two days) involves 9 hours cruising on both Saturday and Sunday. Now, as a reasonably experienced canal user I know this is ambitious at the best of times, let alone as a group of hungover, disorganised young men on two boats, in the forecast wind and rain. So what I'm very presumptuously asking is: can anyone here suggest a more feasible plan (maybe 6 hours a day cruising?), involving a good pub at the halfway point (Saturday night)? Many many thanks in advance to anyone who can suggest anything.
