  1. Lol. I get it. But he really is a very skilled electrician so I can't see there being any harm in him helping me read some of these very technical posts. Appreciate the candour as always 😆
  2. I'm sure you're right but he manages complex projects so he will be able to help me make sense of some the more technical feedback I've received. Every little helps.
  3. I have a friend who is an experienced electrician. I'm going to ask him to help me review all the helpful info in your responses (great community) and help me do a power audit.
  4. That really simplifies it for me, so so helpful. I'm getting used to the levels of TLC my beloved boat requires 😅 Really helpful. Thank you. No, I'm not in a marina so not hooked up to mains.
  5. Really appreciate that. In other very good news the solar panels are charging the batteries again (see pic) All I did btw now and my last post was switch the fridge and freezer off. Because of work I didn't have time to run the engine. Am I right in assuming that by switching of the the most power draining appliances it gave the batteries time to "recover"? I suppose this also indicates that if I plan to use the fridge and/or freezer, then running the engine regularly for an hour or 2 is going to be necessary as I wasn't always doing that and the solar panels can't be relied upon solely? Pun not intended. Relieved my batteries aren't kaput 😅
  6. 2 of these plus standard battery for starter etc. It's the best photo I could get but I believe they are acid batteries.
  7. The inverter itself indicates battery very low. Just to add that at midday the volts indicator from solar panel increase but doesn't charge the batteries
  8. Fridge and freezer. I switched off the freezer. I don't have any other major appliances. I have a 4g router that I've had switched on all day.
  9. Great. I'll work through all the queries and clarification points and come back to you, rather than respond piecemeal.
  10. Thanks all. I have found most of the comments really helpful. Being lectured by somone about my attitude isn't particularly helpful because I am really keen to solve this but I don't know where to start. I am ignorant, I own that, but I want to learn hence the post.
  11. Thanks. I appreciate the candid responses. It's not that I'm unwilling to improve my knowledge but I'm going to do so with humility so as not to electrocute myself. Pity that some in this thread feel the need to highlight my ignorance but that may say more about them than it does about me. I'm grateful for the helpful comments and I'll crack on with solving it. This is helpful, I'll look at what happens after a long charge running the engine Really appreciate this. Very helpful. I'm learning every day and so grateful to the time you've taken to respond in such detail.
  12. Thanks for the quick reply. I think it will be easier to provide a few pics. My lights and water pump still work but things like my fridge and other things linked to plug points don't. I appear to have 2 large leisure batteries.
  13. Hi. I'm sure this is a topic that comes up repeatedly but need advice. Bought my narrowboat nearly 2 months ago. Power set up was working well. Solar panels charging batteries seemingly well. Lots of sun etc. This last week I noticed that the batteries weren't charging. See pic attached. Would this suggest the leisure battery is kaput? The investor is also telling battery is low so I think that's an obvious clue 😂 I had been able to keep things going by running the engine for a bit but I work away from my boat everyday and so can't do this consistently. Came back late last night to find it was completely flat. Any advice welcome. Ps 1 I have no experience when it comes to electrical maintenance so I ain't messing about with that! Ps 2 pic taken in the early hours of this morning but it's been the same alert at midday during very hot weather.
  14. Hi, looking for a trusted professional to install webasto water heater on my boat. Boat has radiators etc installed but the system is kaput. My boat is moored in Hertfordshire. Any recommendations welcome
