  1. Dear All, On Thursday 31st March I signed papers from a broker so they would proceed with selling my boat. On Saturday 2nd April I sold to a friend who had contacted me a while ago, before I called the broker. I have as yet, not received any paperwork from the broker, or had any pictures taken of the boat for publication on their website. Where do I stand when they tell me I have to pay them £500 for this "service"? Please help. Thanks H
  2. Hey Terry, I want to hook up some Wind and solar stuff a bit longer down the line, my engine is quite old really (1978) and I dont think I would be very popular with my neighbours if I kept it running at all hours, especially if anyone had any washing out. Bunty smokes a wee bit when first started. Be Seeing You Morby Currently Hoping That Differing Opinions Make For An Interesting World Hey Chris, I have looked at the black and Decker unit, but it struck me that it would have to be left out on deck, all I need to know is how much bargaining power do I have when it comes to quotes for jobs which include a battery charger. I didnt know when I first posted my question that it would cause a bone of contention. I wondered why I was being advised (by the quoter) to have a rather expensive charger, and would a cheaper 12amp 30v Charger really be nescessary for my needs. 3. I do have some lights, my water pump and shower on 12V. Charging the batteries over a longer period wouldnt be much hardship to be honest. Its not like Im going anywhere fast at the moment. Be Seeing You Morby Currently Cloud Busting With Kate
  4. Hey Terry I didnt know if it was a charger till yesterday i'm afraid. It isnt which is a pity. Im thinking of selling my rather large Genny and using it to pay for the land line. I see, to say I'm green would not be an understatement, but the chap who came to do the quote was surprised I knew what a Galvanic Isolator was and what it prevented!! 5. I am looking to be on Land line as I am planning to live aboard. I wont be doing much (if any) cruising about either. But I'm concerned that if I change my mind a few years down the line then I will be paying even more than the quote I've had is worth. Is it really necessary that I have a charger at all? Can I get away with the landline hook up, inverter (Which I have already) and a good Galvanic Isolator? Be Seeing You Morby Currently Throwing Her Current Bun Balast At Marine Electricians!
  6. Hello Again Boaters, I have 4x 110 Leisure batteries, which at the moment are hooked up to my engine alternator which is putting in (I think) 4v of recharge. I have been advised that I need a quite hefty recharger to get them back on line, and Victron has been mentioned as a name, but the quote I have is a wee bit steep. Can anyone recommend any other chargers for me please? Im looking to spend under £200 Is this feasible? Thanks for your help chaps Be Seeing You Morby Currently Using Static Electricity To Recharge

  8. To everyone who emailed in, Many thanks for all your advice, I already have a quiet petrol genny on board, but the Marina only allows use before and after certain times of day. So thanks for that advice. Also, although a Lady already, I do have quite a deep voice already! Hahaha I am getting a few quotes for the work, and the ones I have chosen all live close or within half an hour of me. One lives just down the road, so paying for their time wont be so bad... I shan't forget to ask all the questions that you chaps and chappesses thought of. Toodle Pip... 9. You guys are great, at least know I know exactly what to ask for when I ring some of these companies up. Many thanks Morby
  10. Just been reading Wiki about Isolation transformers. But connecting the Gereator to the deck socket wouldnt really be an issue. Morby
  11. The Inverter is a Sterling, 1800 2800 (If that is the right kind of number) was difficult to see as whoever put it in, fixed it upside down! Morby
  12. Oh... wonder why he wants so much... I mean the excuse of the Credit Crunch is beginning to wear a little thin. Thanks chaps. I know exactly what to ask for now. But any further replies or advice would be very welcome. Morby I have two Battery isolation keys on the boat, are these the same thing? Morby
  13. It includes the following according to the email: Battery charger and a power switch with rcd breakers, to select between shore power, inverter, and generator, supply and fit a 3 way panel, stirling pro-charger, ac inlet socket, a shore lead including all cable will be included. I mean, I thought it was a bit steep, all I need is to be able to run off the landline connection at my marina and charge my batteries. Any reccomendations?
  14. Hello All, Just need your opinions really. I am looking at getting a Landline hook up for my 48ft Cruiser. It already has an Inverter and two large leisure batteries, although there is no charging facility from the Medusa Generator on deck. I have so far been quoted £600 for the work. My question is... "Is this a good deal?" Thanks Folks Morby
