Have boaters noticed the cost of fuel hitting their pockets more or as much as landlubbers? I've considered buying a third boat (sold my second in 2020) but feel nervous that boaters living aboard might be feeling it worse than households.

The stated aim of the Boat Safety Scheme is to make sure boats are safe, not for the occupants of that boat, but for others around them. So it would be entirely consistent for the BSS to specify the maximum power of tunnel lamps and the beam pattern. Any that are too bright and/or pointing in teh wrong direction would result in a BSS fail.
Wouldn't stop the plokers who remove non-compliant stuff for the examination and put it back afterwards, but might damp down sales of the damn things.
Interesting point as my tunnel light was on a bracket so could be adjusted before entering tunnel . It was quite a small but adequate little oblong light and more than adequate shining slightly at the 'roof' of the tunnel.
I do understand those with eye challenges but mine are getting on and I found oncoming excessively bright lights required my hand to block them.

I'm surprised as I thought it wasn't. How cool is that!

Is campbell wharf residential?

Not my patch but I'm sure there used to be a "short" boat club in the central Milton Keynes area and in the wider Marsworth (Dunstable Boat club?) area?
Lion hearts cruising club is a small friendly club. Up to 35' I believe and those I met were nice people. Nr Giffard Park. MK

The pumpout there wasn't great - I preferred to cruise up to Baxter's for a friendly service. Last time I went to PB I had to try to do it alone, it was lucky there was a guy hanging around who offered to help but it wasn't guaranteed and he said you had to pay for a second token if one didn't do it and my tank was small but it was roof access. These things matter but I was a visitor not living there.

I lost a 1000 deposit to a broker in 2008 near whilton locks because we stupidly paid it and our funds hadn't cleared in time - 1 week! The owner took the boat off the market.. I felt bitter at the time, but we subsequently found a boat at a brokers quite nearby that took a deposit fixed a few important things then took the rest. It was a stroke of luck. The second boat had dropped by £13k by the time our house sold, Steve lost about that on his house sale so we were quits, and we got a much better liveaboard for the mooring we had chosen.
Loved it and miss her.

Ours are Caldwells and were fitted new in 1999.
I re-attached a catch that came off last year and a few years ago I bought a roll of the hopper window "foam rubber" from Caldwells and did all the windows again.
Other than that - no problems.
I'm about to order some new catches. Any advice? Ta muchly

Sort of on topic.
I was advised that if I were to upgrade my propane gas regulator it ought to be of higher load as I have heating, cooker and hob all gas.
How do you choose a better propane gas regulator ?
Thank you!

Indeed. I can spot absolutely no signs of potential danger in that photo at all. ?
1980s I’d guess, possibly even early 1990s.

The last regular service tram in Liverpool ran in 1956.
I guess it must have been at the museum in Birkenhead as I'm not that old...defo rode a tram. Can't ask rellies as they are mostly dead. Sadly. Going to get photos...

I was a bit bored, so I decided to see what happened to the freeflowing barge. I really loved the bit about the trams and would also love the recipe for the malt loaf. Probs need to make appointment at opticians now and... I have a tram story. I was very lucky to ride one in Liverpool/Birkenhead more like when my boys were little. Could probably find a photo but would be hard to put it in the slot on my phone.https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/museum-of-liverpool

I didn't believe boats counted for CGT because I was unable to claim a loss I made. Surely it works both ways? What about as a second home? Say you live in a scruffy tin can but owned a house? What occurs if you sell your house?

Be careful which fan you buy. Remember as a general rule of thumb for each piece of coal/smokeless fuel a simple two blade fan trebles the heat out put. When using the four or multi bladed fans serious burns can happen if there are more than four lumps of coal being burnt at any one time.
I wish!

Omg seriously hope there's a post on which fan...I am struggling to warm up boat in less than 90 mins (but am waiting to meet boiler repair man in few days) I want my dog to forgive me for bringing him in this ice slab.

Thanks for the helpful info.

We already have a line of boats -three using petrol. Is it true co can be emitted between 6 and 10 m away at dangerous levels?
18 hours ago, Alan de Enfield said:Use a diesel rather than a petrol engine generator - lots, lots less Co from a diesel.
You could always go for a built-in water cooled 'proper' boat generator but you won't get much change from £10,000
I'll look into these. Thanks
-
I'm asking about this as I live near a boat where charging by generator is done. My co alarm is working. My vents on the front door are huge and at least once the alarm went off when it was windy possibly because of the fire smoke blowing in. I'm interested mainly as I need a generator myself and don't wish to be a nuisance. What can I do?
-
I think the walk through idea is seriously flawed unless all you boaters live ON diesel fumes? Brilliant reading though thanks!

Does anyone have a recommendation for wattage regarding modern LEDs formtunnel lights as we'd like to get one but naturally don't want to dazzle other boaters ( as we've been at the receiving end of silly lights through Blisworth)
I've read all the posts which are informative and some hilarious...
Thanks in anticipation...

I agree with the third party, we saw the wreck of a widebeam some years back, she was being repaired, a boat in Thames and Kennet marina (big DB) got stuck in foreward and went on the rampage smashing into things randomly. It hit the WB so hard the granite kitchen worktop inside the boat went flying accross the boat and dented the opposite side. Fortunately everyone was insured.
Interesting post. Made me try to visualise the random smashing. Did it have a steerer? Shame for all the damage tho'

Nene valley used to deliver a veg box to my boat just needed me to meet them once in car park to show them where it was. But they used same driver each time.

This also seems to be more poignant, so you're saying costs not such an issue? I've seen the low water reports.
You are fortunate indeed to have the choice. Solar would be good, does it work on the heavy grey days when they've sprayed chemtrails abd the sun is obscured?
