I have to say, I did love feeding the carp from my boat at Cooks Wharf just to agitate the fisher men on the opposite bank!!
-
Yes happy birthday Ratters, hope you got ratfaced!!!!!!
I certainly did!!
Thank you all.
-
I did have a mouse on the boat, happily, or sadly for the mouse, it managed to drown itself in the washing
up bowl! Problem solved!
My boys had pet rats - I have to say they are the most adorable, affectionate little creatures. Loved them to bits - not so sure about wild ones though........

Surely most of us are hobby boaters? Boating is my hobby. Nothing wrong with that is there?
-
I used to have a shiny boat................................
TBH a new paint job is very stressful - worse than new carpets - unless one gets to go boating with the boat painter. Stick with a scruffy boat I say!
I would put up a smiley face except I seem to have lost that function!!

Well. I have been away and it is fenders again. Sometimes I leave them up and sometimes I bring them in. I have to say I did get one hooked on Marsworth top lock and lost it, and a good friend of mine specially hand knitted a pair for me and I lost one at Pitstone and I was very sad. So, now I do try to not cruise with them down - especially now I have friends who are 'proper boaters'! My son, on the other hand, has them all dangling from every possible place and has yet to lose one. On a serious note, I do suspect that constant fender dangling does more harm to ones blacking by virtue of their constant rubbing, than by not having them down!

Sorry, but someone seems to have tried to clone your forum name, and is now called Water_Rat and is posting some pretty stupid comments about CMing in London.
That is definitely not me! I am 'Water Rat.' Anyway I only ever post very sensible comments.......................
I thought W_R was a bit cheeky, no one can replace our WR!!.

I assumed this was happening in London? I admit to have not reading all 90 comments on the London Boater site, but, IMHO, it highlights the urban problem of too many boats not moving. I also wonder if that is why there have been complaints about that lack of water points in London? Perhaps it is deliberate........................

The London show costs a great deal to exhibit at: not just the exhibitor space, but staffing it for a week, setting up, transport etc. BW could rarely justify the expense on its own, and I doubt that's changed with CRT.
BW did sometimes mount a joint presence with the Environment Agency, the British Marine Federation's inland associations, and so on. But I suspect right now the EA has less marketing budget swilling around than even CRT!
Perfect for volunteers perhaps?

Are you related to the other Water Rat that has nested on this forum?

We did. It was fun, the IWA made a great effort, as usual, with a great stand selling books and stuff. Well done to them. CaRT? Nowhere to be seen. Why is this? I do feel they should make use of the boat show and try to bring inland boating to peoples attention. We were really excited to see the valiant little Sea Otter tucked in with all the other flash stuff. The only serious prospective purchaser we met was looking for a narrow boat
We browsed around the boaty stuff, lots of lovely rope, I even bought a fid to learn splicing - well it is the new year! And, lots of shoes and waterproof jackets so technical you could probably sail to France in one with out the yacht!!
A good day - even though the mediocre beer was £4.80 a pint.
Anyone else going?

I think it looks a great little boat - that is as long as the advice offered here is followed. Don't forget to make an 'offer'. I almost bought a boat from Whilton at half the sale price but did not want to do the work needed to make it good.

Bits breaking down.

Bugger all I should think.
Best not to take them in in the first place, however, I always like to think it is keeping my joints (not those sort) supple and my muscles strong.
-
Love it. One can't mange without and one can't manage with! No one can say you don't get advice from all perspectives here!

Mick and Maggie. I very much doubt 'thousands of people' think Alan Fincher is a fool, you, however are starting to appear to be one. Your tone is offensive and who do you think you are to be calling people, you may not even know, a fool? So, please desist in this vendetta and just accept other people may not always agree with you.

Attention Mick and Maggie. I feel personal insults are best given in private. Your posts have come across as unnecessarily rude to Alan Fincher. People are entitled to have an opinion about this publication, and, since I have no idea what your connection to NBW world is, I for one now think even less of it! Well done!

Maybe it had a broken leg or something? Surely if it was unconscious it would not have struggled? This makes me sick, I know a pony is a large animal to deal with but honestly there must be an alternative?
-
Surely it could have stood up? just saying.

Think it will be on its way to RLWP for his opinion in due course. What the f do I do about the fly wheel?
-
It is a Hurth 100. I think Tony Brooks suggested a PRM as did a fellow boater at Cooks Wharf.

Thanks Tree. Much appreciated. x

The gear box was new 5 years ago and although it was decidedly dodgy this summer it limped through but now I have had it taken out and these other issues came to light. Now I will be spending my piggy bank money. Do you know anything about Norises at Isleworth?
-
It must be the season for knackered engines. I have a knackered gear box, worn out drive plate, a screw stuck in the fly wheel which will have to be drilled out and one of the bolts holding it is broken.
I am very pi**ed off.
