  1. No comment on the 'value' chinese built boats, I looked at one at Excel in the spring. The inside was fitted out in bamboo and it looked very nice but thought the outside shape was a bit strange very square. But.... could I just comment on supporting our British boat builders - where you can go and see the chap actually making it and who will look after you afterwards. I think at this time we should support local businesses. I have an old boat, probably 20 years - but built by Colecraft - I can still ask them things about the boat. There are some grat boat builders here so lets use them, please.

  2. I agree 100% very average food over priced The Folly has gone downhill over the last few years the beer is not great either, I would recomend the Crown or if you are in a car and meeting for lunch then I would recomend the Two Boats at Long Itchington good value food and good beer and only about 5/10 mins by car from Napton Boat Hire

Oh Yes, Two boats at Long Itch is great, very nice to sit outside by the canal and have lunch - very pretty walk along the tow path looking at the boats too.

  3. The pub in the village is the Crown, run by Jonny who is a wonderful and freindly chap. I have had many great nights in there. I understand a restaurant has opened in there too, I have not eaten in it myself but have been told it is very good - and they are a discerning lot in Napton! The village is very pretty so it is worth a little walk to have a look around.

  4. Have your torch on a bit of string to hang around your neck. I even have a mini maglite torch on my key fob, (also on a lanyard with floaty jobbie) the most useful torch I have when entering and leaving the boat in the dark. All keys on floaty fobs too. Have a great trip, we did part of it last year, Napton to Cow Roast, it is quite a pretty run - even through Milton Keynes! Enjoy.

  5. thanks for that... i'm looking at thier website right now. it's strange because when buying a secondhand car there's a set market value.. with narrow boats prices vary dramatically - and some brokers appear much more pricey than others.. !

Rmember the asking price is very diferent to the value! Start with an offer of what you want to pay first. We nearly bought a little old boat from Whilton a couple of years ago, the original asking price was 14.950k reduced to 9.50k, we had a survey done, the surveyer said it was only worth 6k so we offered about 4k and it was accepted!!! Unfortunately we could not proceed, and of course it need a lot of work, but it just goes to show. We were at Whilton last summer - the boat is still going strong with nothing having been done to it!! Good luck and be bold.

  6. Nice to share a few locks with "Water Rat", Julie (and Barry) and boat "Jade P".

Oooooh fame on the Forum!! Hope you are enjoying the trip. Did the reverse last summer and was surprised how pretty Milton Keynes was from the water. Have fun - we will all be watching your progress. Julie

BTW watch the sun - I got a bit pink yesterday

  7. Perhaps they have had a glut of trolling emails as a result of the QSS saga and are just fed up with the electronic equivalent of rubber necking.

How are the enquiries rubber necking??? If handled well this could be one of the best bit of free advertising they have ever had. They already have two potential clients here - who are going off them by the hour I might add.

  8. Our property agents let the house for six months at a time and could, I think, serve notice a month before the expiry of each six-month period (they inspected the property each six months). Mind you, I don't know how easily they could have ejected the tenants in practice - luckily we never needed to put it to the test.

What has this got to do with the

    original question?

  9. To Carol and Tony. I am too far away to help in any way, but would just like to wish you the best of luck. This must have been the most awful experience for you both, no one deserves these events in life. A few on this forum have appeared a little harsh, just ignore them, most of us would help in any way we can - any excuse to look at boats and be nosey, also by the grace of god and all that. I do hope your boat has been sighted and you get it back very soon in one piece. Keep us posted and fingers crossed.

  10. We are looking to redo the shower on the little boat. I am sick of looking through plumbing mags and websites. Can anyone tell me where to find small shower trays. We do have one which is 600x600mm is that likely to be as small as they get without going on a diet or banning plump people?

  11. We have the logo Taylor Higgs and Co, regestered at Fenny Compton painted on the side of one of our boats. Does anyone know who Taylor Higgs are or where the name originates?

  12. Goodness me! I am so glad you are ok'ish. It sounded really frightening. So much for living a tranquil life on the water. Thank you for telling us everything so clearly, I have certainly learned a thing or two and am definately going to buy a boyancy aid in case I am ever alone in rough weather. I never really thought about getting one before, except for children. Hope the bruises heal soon.

  13. Well, what more can I add - a good time was had by all, and thanks to Cath and Alan for posting the pictures. Thank you all for welcoming us to the group, especially our charming hosts on OWL. I now look forward - Leo - to a good 'CRAPPER' event. Roll on summer evenings of good company! Julie.

  14. If you do finally sit down to watch it on DVD, make sure you drink a strong cup of coffee beforehand otherwise you might drift off!

I know, I know - it is a bit slow. But, I was told my boat (before I bought it) appeared briefly on it. I catch it occasionaly on sky - but haven't seen her yet.
