. Thatcher in power ... The good old days !!!
Thatcher got me layed a few times, living as a 'new age traveler' at the time she declaired war on us, also brought us to the notice of some rich girls who wanted to anoy daddy.

Is there a 'none of the above' option ?
-
I have to disagree.
While it was not huge there was plenty to interest different people
Certainly we spent around 3 hours there, learned a lot and got to meet some new people.
There seemed to be stuff happening left right and centre, certainly a great deal that we had little interest in like canoes and angling but regretfully we ran out of time to watch the Morris dancers or even visit the museum. The singers were good
What museum? cant think of anything canal related in Nottm museums.

I have never met you but have enjoyed your nolagable posts, espeshaly the ones regarding the bcn, an area regarded as a joke by most of this country and a danger to be avoided by most boaters. It was sad to read this and what sounds like a real end of a era for you.I wish you well and hope to see meany more of your post on hear, reminding us all that the waterways are not just a holaday home but has a proud history aswell.

Having a bus pass means it's no longer worth running behind buses - I just get on them. Still worth running behind taxis though.
When I'm driving a bus I often see people running behind, never worked out why.

If the car is in the lock it must have gone in from the car park.

It always has been. I bought my first boat to live on in 1977 because of all the same housing market problems we have now.
I don't imagine it will ever change.
MtB
Thats a depressing thought but I think you are right.

Greenie Donald G. I agree.
The housing situation in the UK is broken and not fit for purpose.
My first greenie [ ? ] Can it be used to pay for boat licence?
-
People should pay for there licences but if you have no money and no home what would you do? Living in old trucks and buses [my past] has been stamped on, squats are ilegal, so whats left? cheep plastic boat and keep moving, better than a park bench.

Untill they 'took' this dog, what harm were they doing? The camo boat was nicking things from other boaters and the police got him for it, there has been no reports of theft by these people. So they are scruffy and broke, the poor will always be with us.

But what is the number of boats on private waters connected to CRT waterways, ie the one who are no longer eligible for short term licences? I would have thought compared to the boat population is was quite a small number and would not have an big impact on overall revenue, but perhaps in a local area on specific business it might.
If there are that few, why stop them from having the short term licence? In the marina we are in most people have just stoped going out, does cart not need every pound it can get?
-
Although I have not kept detailed records on fuel spend for the two boats. I would be very surprised if we have not exceeded £1,000 as well, based just on how many hours we must have run both engines.
Mind you, we have also covered the most miles we ever have done in a year, easily exceeding any previous one.
I have books about canal boating that say that the cost of the fuel is relatively insignificant compared to total cost of boat ownership, and I suppose to some extent that is still true, but it has become a major consideration, obviously not helped at all if you make even half way sensible declarations about how much of your fuel should be at the higher duty rate.
Did the cost of fuel help you look so stresed whilst deiseling up at Norbury junction in July?

We went out this year after 2 years away, using a 3 month licence. We would go out more if we could get short term licences but they have been stoped, leaving me no option but to have a 3 or 6 month licence every second year. There are others at the marina who just dont go out ,now they cant get a week or month licence. How much is this costing canal/river side busineses.

Will be out in the Land Rover, so full water proofs on.

Thats a 'no' then

Well done and a good size at 46ft as you will always find a space to moor. Enjoy

Coming from a line of a line of men who served on the Machrihanish and Campbeltown boats and a great uncle who was the machanic in Dover, I find it difficult to understand why the RNLI and air anbelence is not payed for out of my Tax, it would make me a lot happier about paying it.

When I helped save a boat [fire] the owner thanked me with a meal and all I could drink, in a good pub. Just a suggestion.

The marina owners say that all cars must be taxed, if they are not then they must be removed or will be removed. It does mean there are no dead rotting cars cluttering up parking spots. This car may well be taxed but he has forgoten to put it on the car, just trying to get the mesage to him.
-
Does anyone on hear work for Land and Water? One of the people who works for land and water lives on a boat at Shardlow Marina, I dont know his name, if you know this man can you tell him that his car is out of tax and the marina are thinking of removing it.
