  1. not really got the tech for that im afraid. The best I can describe it is just like a cricket. One will start by doing a burst of three "chirrups" then there will be a reply in a differant pitch.
  2. Not frogs, that was my first idea but i would see them. They only used to be on the bank side so frogs made sence, but nightly adventures with the torch proves other wise. You can hear the little buggers but not see them. At first it was an occational thing, just heard it on the bank side at night, like two of them "talking" to each other. Then It seems more and more have joined that party. Now they have migrated to the river side and its sound like there is a half dozen of them now. I like the idea of prop snipers though! Either way, the noise kept me awake last night untill the early hours so later i am going to sweep the hull sides. If i catch anything im going to make an example of it to all its mates to show i mean business! Not centipedes either...................... Come on someone must know what it is, I cant really get Attenborough down here can I!!!
  3. Definalty in the water, on river side of boat below tje water line.]
  4. Come on people, some one else out there must be being kept awake by the little sods. Maybe its a new species and they will name it after me. The tired and confused beetle. Had the same noise for ages, well over a year off and on. Getting to know the habbits of it now. if there was much more flow on the river the noises would stop and never hear them in the winter. They sound very similar to a grass hopper or a cricket. Not worried about what them, they are just so loud, especially in this warm weather that they are keeping me awake!
  5. You're describing my other half. She could ruin the whole boat when on heat! Joking aside, these little buggers are driving me mad. Never done the amazon but have been in more than a few jungles, this is almost like listening to cicadas. Non stop now, and i cant see anything on the hull sides.
  6. Hoping that someone can help me identify which creature makes a strange cricket like sound. Mostly at night, when the river isnt in flood, like now when uts warm i can hear the creaking, croaking type noise. It seems as though its something that is living on the outside if the hull, more than one because they seem to respond to each other. The strange thing is the noise seems louder in the boat than outside. Im on the river soar. Its driving me crazy now and stopping me from sleeping and id love to know what it is. Any ideas? Cheers, Katak.
  7. Thanks for the responces. I have always reliecenced at a marina and have shown my certificate, if I was unable to produce, would they include a note to the CRT to that effect?
  8. Hi All. Could anyone tell me if it is possible at all to get a replacement boat safety certificate? My current one was damaged beyond recognition. Would I have to contact the boat safety scheme or the examiner that gave me the certificate? Any help would be great? Kayak.
  9. Hello all. Could anyone tell me how long it would take to get from Sawley marina to Sileby mill? Ill be leaving Wednesday morning if it makes any differance. 60ft narrow beam. Any advice would be great. Kayak.
  10. Thanks, but as I said in my first post I have already been through the validation process, i have the validation email in my new account but it didnt work. cheers.
  11. Hi all. Ive been made redundant so i need to change my email address. ive followed all the steps and validated the new adderss but my old address still shows up in my controll panel. Any ideas? Cheers. Kayak.
  12. To be honest I have no idea what it is set to.......i'll have to ask the guy who installed it. If is has been set to protect a "weak" shore power then it need ajusting because the shore power is more thatn capable of running everything. Before the electrics were installed on the boat everything was ran from an extension lead from the shore supply. K.
  13. Oh, I did wonder if it could be something like that. I hope it will start the fridge and freexer up though when they go in. But just a thought, it was in charger only mode so I would have thought that it would let more than 3kw through it when its not acting as an inverter? (not sure about that though) Kayak.
  14. Morning all. I have a bit of a strange query regarding a Victron multi 3000/24. I have had it installed and it has worked faultless for nearly a year in both inverter and charger only mode. It has ran the kettle, radio, battery charger (power tool) water pumps etc, etc with no problems. However, last week i plugged in my new Bosch compound mitre saw (240v). I have used this at home with no problems but when i first pulled the trigger when pluged into a 240v socket on the boat all the power to the other sockets went off. There was nothing else drawing power other that a radio. The saw is only about 1400w. The strage thing was that it didnt trip the main RCD in the consumer unit or the breaker for that particular ringmain. What it did was to shut down the inverter. By the time i had opened the cupboard door i could see the inverter looked as though it had been switched off but the switch was still in Charger only mode. Whilst i looked on, the lights started to flicker back on as they would normally when switching it on at the begining of the weekend (still only there at weekends). Any ideas as to what happened? I was a little concerned at first id blown the inverter up but since then it has worked fine. In the past ive had the kettle boiling and a piller drill or router on at the same time and its been fine. Just puzzleing how if anything was going to trip it wasnt the RDC or the breaker. Any help, advice or ideas appreciated. Kayak.
  15. Hi all. I'm looking to be a bit cheeky and ask if there is someone out there that can help me check my vent requirements for my widebeam. Ive currently got a gas cooker with 4 rings and 2 ovens, a 6 kw solid fuel stove, and an Alde 3010. There is only one double bed so 2 berths. I've got the formula from the new regs for solid fuel stoves but im being a bit thick and i cant get it right. In the past I was advised that if I had 2 No 152*229 vents in the stern doors and 2No. 76*229 in the bow doors plus 4 No 4 inch mushroom vents ( 2 main cabin 1 bathroom 1 bedroom) that would be fine. Any help would be really great. Kayak.
  16. A bit of fun? If only the other half would say yes. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...494#description Kayak.
  17. Thats him, and the number i've got. Was just wondering if anyone had spoke to him recently Cheers.
  18. Quick question, Does anyone know if David Broatch is still surveying boats and if so, has he changed his contract numbers? Regards. Kayak.
  19. Its piped up with flexis either side like yours. Just to test it i held the pump off the floor while the OH turned the taps on and it still vibrated the pipes. I've been in contact with Jabsco and they were really helpfull. Luckily the pump has a 3 year warrenty so i can send it back. With reference to the electrical bit it sound like i understood correctly and that side of it is ok. Im getting a good voltage at the pump too. Just my luck to get a faulty one. Not having much luck lately with the plumbing and toilet system due to incorrect/faulty parts. I suppose it could always be worse though! Cheers. Kayak.
  20. Morning all. Im sure im driving eveyone mad by now woth my questions but here I go again. I finally filled up the water tank and primed the water system on the boat on Saturday (cold side only). All went well with no visible leaks! Quite a big acheivement for me because im scared to death of plumbing. The pump I have is a 17LPM sensormax, and on the face of it it seems quite good. The pump seems to give a really good judder free flow and easily copes (pressure wise) with all the cold taps fully open together. However, even though being advertised as "virtually silent" this is far from true. So much so that i think i have a faulty pump. When the pump is operating at a speed enough to run just one tap at half flow, it makes the most unbearale noise! It vibrates so much that i was worried it would damage the plumbing. So much so that I didnt dare carry on with the hot system untill I'd talked to Jabsco. Has anyone else experianced any problems with these pumps? I know that a few other people have said that they're not as quiet as advertised but......... Just sat now looking through the installation instructions and it says "The VSD electronics require a battery installed in the DC powers supply when using an AC to DC converter or battery charging system" I know it sounds a bit think but does this mean you need a battery installed if you dont really have a dc system and are just running from a converter? With a normal boat set up with an AC and a DC system I take it this doesnt mean I need another battery in the system somewhere? Any help is great!! Kayak.
  21. not wishing to waste anyones time, ive found a post that i started that was all about pressures so i'll re-read that. Just goes to show how long these bloody boats take to build!!
  22. Thanks both for that, it makes sence. I wasn't thinking that the air side would be fully pressurised! I sort of imagined a sheet of rubber suspended halfway across the tank. Great stuff. However, Its got me thinking about the pressure that should be in it. Seeing as its a sensormax pump that doesnt need an accumulator this tank is just for taking up the expansion when the water gets hot. So, what sort of pressure should it be charged to. I would think that it should be above the cut off pressure but below the blow off pressure for the PRV on the calorifiers? Have i got it about right? Kayak.
  23. Hi all. I'm calling on your collective experiance one more! Hopefully this Saturday, after a miriad of setbacks, I should finally fill the water tank and prime the domestic water for the first time. Fingers are crossed that there are no leaks but my main concern is bleeding the the system. I think im ok with bleeding the main cold system and i was going to do this first by turning the pump on (its a sensormax pump so there is no accumulator) with the cold taps open and turn them off one at a time when each stops pushing air. (so far so good?) Now comes the bit im unsure about. After the outlet from the pump the feed split and goes through a non return valve and then through the calorifiers. After the calorifiers before the hot water makes its way to the hot taps i have put an expansion tank. As this has no actual outlet and is tee'd into the system, how do i bled it? I have tee'd it into the system with a braided hose so there is a bit of movement and i can take it out of the bracket whist it is still plumbed in, so as daft as it seems im wondering if it should be put in upside down (with the air valve at the bottom) I can see i've rambled but hope someone can tell me if im on the right lines and also how to bleed the expansion tank. Many thanks. Kayak.
  24. Hi emkay. If you have a look at the Maplin website there will be something on there. I went into the Leicester store a few weeks back and they have some great cctv stuff that you could use, including a radio controll mount, im sure it was only about £30. They do lots of differant cameras to fit the mount but im not sure how you would zoom. Kayak.
  25. Just to clarify, im am not refering to a canal. I am refering to a river. It it makes any differance. Kayak.
