  1. Hi, I understand how the timer switch works all I need to know is which two wires go to the battery and which wire switches the heater on and off. Regards, Brian
  2. Hi, Just about to purchase a new Eberspacher D4wsc heater. I have a 12 volt 7 day timer ( none standard) Can anybody tell me which wires go to the battery and which wire is the switch wire that goes to 12V+ to start and stop the heater? Thanks, Brian.
  3. Sorry but I think some people need to read the post again! Everything is connected as it should be.The victron BMV 600 is only a monitor, the shunt is connected as it should be the monitor is confirming what the read out on the Sterling Battery Management remote is only 80amps Max going into the batteries. Nothing as been added to the system or taken away, no modifications have been made, its not been kicked! In short I am not getting the charge I got last week. Regards, Barry
  4. Hi, nicknorman. Both ignition lights are working correctly, on before start off when running. I have checked the belts and run both alternators one at a time, never getting more than 80amps when on boost. The remote read out on the Sterling system always use to show a rise in output when the inverter was on now it does not. Regards, Brian.
  5. Hi, All. Can an alternator loose power? The reason I ask is I have a battery management system fitted with a 160Amp and a 80Amp connected in parallel, new battery bank 600Ah I was getting a 197amps charge after the batteries were down to 85% now for some reason I only get 80amps and the charge does not go up if I switch on the inverter using a 850 watt drill. The charge in the batteries goes down when the drill is running, never did before. I have a Victron BMV battery monitor so I can see the condition of the batteries. Regards, Brian.
  6. Hi, All. I am thinking of joining the River canal Rescue but after reading the Terms and Conditions I am a little hesitant. There seems to be so many “if and buts” in the conditions, one is that the engine has to be serviced every 250 hours I do my own servicing, change oil, and filters at 200 hours (engine and gearbox) how do I prove it? About 6 months ago the engine blew the head gasket, it’s an Isuzu 38 HP with 3000 hours on the clock I had to go into a marina on the Rufford arm in Lancashire, just about regrown the arm and leg it cost me! Would River Canal Rescue repair it if it went again? Anybody experienced a similar repair or any other advice regarding River Canal Rescue? Do they use the “if or buts” to wriggle out? I was thinking of the bronze cover. Any advice regarding River Canal Rescue would be appreciated. Thanks.
  7. An update from the manufacture (see reply below) It would seem that all the faults shown on the video are “working within specification” The bottom line is the TV does not receive Freesat or Freeview there is no text available. It would seem that the TV is not made to operate in the U.K. Thank you for your email. Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you but the review was still in progress with our technical team. Since receiving your email below I have chased them up on this for the answers you require and I can confirm below is the information we have been informed of: From the video link provided, below details are in order of problem raised: 1, Remote does not always work: The remote control does require to be directed to the remote sensor and any angled approach would affect the functionality, although we could supply a replacement remote control if needed. 2, No text on DVBT: Unfortunately model C26103F Traveller was designed without the UK text facility. TV does not have MHEG5 which is required to have UK Text. 3, No text on Satellite: The only text available on 28.5 degrees is subtitles which are showing. In order to get digital text (MHEG-HD) it needs to be UK Freesat and be connected to the internet. The Satellite function on the C26103F Traveller has Free to Air and not Freesat and does not have an internet connection. 4, Unable to select channel from EPG on DVBT: To select channel from the EPG on DVBT: Press EPG ·Press 2 curved arrows button (this will change the menu from “channel” to “Time”) · Press down (or up) to scroll to the desired channel Press OK The TV will change to selected channel 5, In Sat mode text buttons only brings up text: As advised in point 3, this is the only text page available in Satellite mode. 6, Unable to select channel from EPG in Sat mode: The same selection method in point 4 will allow the channel 7, EPG has no info in Sat mode: There is no 7 day EPG on free to air satellite feature as there is no internet connection. 8, Duplicate channels: A full scan using the quick start feature will capture all available channels on free to air satellite facility. The TV does not identify the region that it is being used in and therefore will not restrict channels by this order. No matter where you are watching the TV within the UK a customer will be able to choose whether to watch: Tyne Tees, Yorkshire, Border region, Anglia etc. This was intended to accommodate for the use on boats, camping and other leisure activities. The quick start feature will place the channels in order suitable for the UK, although the TV does have the capability to scan from the menu which will not organise the channel order. 9, Dropping channels: As it is Free to air the broadcasts can change regularly to different Muxes to allow for testing streams and commercial transport. Unfortunately the system can only show what is being broadcast at the certain time and cannot control these changes. The model C26103F Traveller is not Freeview or Freesat enabled although it receives UK DVBT channels and all UK Satellite channels from 28.5E. Full HD Satellite BBC1, BBC2, etc In light of the above information from our technical department, it would confirm that other than a possible fault with the remote control, it would seem that the TV is working to specification and I do hope this helps to understand the capabilities of model C26103F Traveller. Should you feel that there is a fault with the remote control, please let me know and I will arrange a replacement to be supplied. 8. Hi all. Thinking of buying a Cello TV, think again I made the mistake of buying one that has both FREESAT and FREEVIEW built in. I purchased the 12 volt model for use aboard my boat the problems are as follows. Please go here to see video of the faults:- REMOTE CONTROL Please see video. Very poor at communicating with TV, buttons have to be pressed repeatedly. FREESAT Please see video. 1. No text in Satellite mode, press text button you get sub titles! 2. In EPG mode there is no information on the channels it states NO INFORMATION 3. In EPG, CHANNEL mode you cannot select a program to watch you have to exit EPG and select channel by pressing the channel number even though it states SELECT on the screen. 4. Duplicated channels you can get up to six of the same channel in the listing makes finding a channel to watch very difficult. 5. Have to retune as channels have a tendency disappear from the listings. FREEVIEW Please see video. 1. No text even with a brilliant aerial reception. 2. In EPG, CHANNEL mode you cannot select a program to watch you have to exit EPG and select channel by pressing the channel number. These are the faults I have found, anybody had a similar experience or found any more before I contact Trading Standards? Please contact me at :- trebby91@yahoo.co.uk COMMUNICATIONS WITH CELLO Very poor you have to leave it a week then remind them to reply. If you list more than one problem per communication they will only address the first one and totally ignore any other. They try to fob you off by saying the faults are caused by weak signal. (see video) Would all members pass this on to any website, forum, or feedback site that I may have missed? Thanks to All, Barry
  9. Don`t care what anybody says I always have my side fenders down when using double locks especially when sharing with some of the “boaters” that try and see how much paint they can remove from the side of my boat when entering the lock last. Never lost a fender while cruising there again don`t seem to bump into a lot of obstacles while cruising!
  10. Hi All. Posted this bit of information a while ago in response to a boat owner that kept losing side fenders but as not everybody may have looked at the actual post I thought I would post it in its own right. To stop losing any type of fender simply tie a thin piece of shock cord either on the fender or on the rope just above the fender (the fender rope usually breaks at the point it secures to the boat) Wind about a metre of cord around the securing rope and tie it off at the boat (same as the fender) When the fender rope gives out due to the fender getting trapped the shock cord will undo and hang onto the fender, just pull it back in, Job done!
  11. Just checked the washer manual and it states the heater is 2000 Watts Is this to high for the inverter?
  12. Hi, All. Having a problem when using the washing machine heater. THE SYSTEM 525 Ah battery bank, Traction Sterling Battery management system Two Alternators 1X 80Amp 1 X 110 Amp wired in parallel All battery cables are doubled up. Sterling 2500 amp Inverter/charger. 400 amp fuse between the batteries and the inverter. THE PROBLEM With the engine running. When the washing machine heater switches in the management system reports “Low voltage “ and a buzzer sounds until the heater turns off also the inverter beeps. The washer continues to run normally throughout. The battery state of charge never drops below 95% ( fully charged on start of wash) The washer requires 2000 watts. Is the 400amp fuse high enough? Any other suggestions?
  13. Thanks for the advice. I reset it to the defaults then set the “SOC” to 535AH when the batteries were fully charged. Is there anything else I need to alter?
  14. I was fed up with losing side fenders, what I do now is, I take about a metre of thin twin thread one end through the fender ( hard rubber) and attach it to the washer at the bottom then coil it around the hanging rope and tie it off on the boat eye. When the fender snags the main rope breaks and the fender falls away the safety line then catches it, just pull it up after the boat has cleared. Works for me!
  15. Hi. I purchased a Victron Energy Battery Monitor model 600s I do not understand the instructions on how to set it up as I do not have a degree in quantum electronics, which I am sure you need to understand the manual! From what I have read in the manual, as with most electronic gadgets it does lots of things that nobody really needs. All I want it to do is show is show the current charge remaining in the batteries, that’s all . I do not need the other four thousand plus functions. My battery bank is made up of six traction batteries giving a total of 535 AH at 12 volt Can anybody tell me what I have to do to set it up without the jargon? IN OTHER WORDS, WHICH BUTTONS DO I PRESS? I am using a Sterling inverter/battery charger to charge the batteries, sometimes on shore power, sometimes on a generator. The monitor shows fully charged after about an hour but the inverter/ charger is still charging and does not stop charging for about another hour after the 100% is shown on the meter. When we were still using video records I had to ask the grandson to set it up!! So please keep it simple for a simple mind! Thanks, Brian.
  16. Hi, My narrow boat (57 foot) is being taken out of the water shortly to be shot blasted. I have had a price for the shot blasting and ordinary blacking. My questions are:- A, should I go for twin pack on the blacking or just ordinary blacking? B, if I go for the twin pack, how much extra should I pay? Thanks.
  17. Hi, Below is an open letter I have sent to Richard Parry, If you are familiar with this stretch of canal I would be obliged if you would copy the letter below and send it by email to: - customer.services@canalrivertrust.org.uk addressed to Richard Parry marked Strictly for his attention. - Please feel free to alter it, I know there are bad stretches of canal all over the country but please keep it to this stretch, let’s do one problem area at a time! The more emails he gets the more chance of getting action! If anybody thinks I have overstated the case I would be pleased to hear from them. This letter is addressed to Richard Parry if that’s not you would you please ensure it gets past onto him. Dear Mr Parry. This open letter was put on The canal world forum by me, hopefully you will you will get further communications from other members that have also recognised the dangers on this stretch of canal That way there will be more than one letter on record of the contents. I would respectfully like to draw your attention to the dangerous condition existing on the Trent and Mersey canal Between Middlewich and bridge 217. The overgrown trees and vegetation on the offside of the canal are causing serious visual obstructions for boaters traveling this stretch, also the reed beds on a number of bends are over ten feet high and cut the canal down to one lane, oncoming boats have to approach on the wrong side because their view is obstructed. There are numerous bends on this stretch, it is impossible to see entrance to bridges or oncoming boats, in fact it is difficult in places to see the course of the canal. This canal is used by a number of hire boaters these boaters are in a holiday mode and do not appreciate the danger they are in, a number of them travel to fast in this area. They do not see a danger and allow children to run up and down on the roofs of the boats without a life preserver. There will be a collision with one of these boats due to the condition of the canal with a boat traveling on the wrong side of the canal because the view is obstructed. Narrow boats weigh in at around fourteen tons if a boat is broadsided it will tip dramatically, the first thing that will happen to anybody standing on the roof will be thrown into the canal. The first reaction of the inexperienced person in charge will be to put the boat in reverse, the boat will continue traveling forward, and there are no brakes! The back end of the boat will become level with the person in the water with the propeller turning, God forbid that the collision will be between two hire boats. You may reply with any type of excuse but while the condition continues lives are at risk. You may claim the area is designated a wildlife habitat sorry but human life comes before wildlife the other alternative is to close the canal but I don`t think you would win on that point! Action is needed now we are still in the holiday period hundreds of boats will use this stretch of canal. Yours, Hopefully. J . Chapman.
  18. Thanks for the help, will give it a try. .Regards, Brian.
  19. Hi, I have a Honda EU 2.0I Took it home from the boat to use it there, It normally runs on gas when it’s on the boat. I filled it with petrol it would not start no matter what I tried it still would not start up ( clean filter) Its run on petrol before. Took it back to the boat connected the gas line, bingo! Started first time disconnected the gas and tried to start it again on petrol, nothing! Is this a common problem and is there an easy fix?
  20. Thanks for the comments, seems it would be a waste of time. Regards, Brian.
  21. Hi, The narrow boats I have seen painted with anti foul paint were on The Bridgewater at Lym. Regards, Brian.
  22. Hi, A question regarding anti fouling paint. I have seen a few narrow boats with red anti fouling paint above and below the water line. Does this paint work? Is it applied over the blacking? Thanks, Regards, Brian.
  23. There is nothing other than a 12 volt fridge and freezer running when charging. If yours runs OK then it would seem I have a problem but I don`t see where as everything on the boat works OK and there is no abnormal drain on the batteries.
  24. Just looked it up, direct from Sterling £519.00 Midland chandlers £465.00 Midland also has the same product on Ebay for £416.00 “Buy Now” All including VAT. Does not make sense, does it ?
  25. Funny tried the link twice got "LCD Cigarette Lighter Voltage Digital Panel Meter Volt Voltmeter" just tried it again and it worked OK.! If I set it to constant output it still does the same thing only faster. Just had a look at the charger seems OK and it only requires 900 Watts input, Got a feeling that the EU2I has not got enough output for the inverter/charger that I have as it runs OK on mains
