Has anyone tried to book Limehouse Lock lately. Apparently C&RT only operate the lock during office hours. We used to book a 5.00 am jaunt but the only time we have been given is 3.30 in the afternoon. We’ve always tried to avoid the busy period with river busses etc. 5.00 in the morning was perfect. It still says on C&RT’s website that t you can book it 24 hrs in advance for a 5.00 trip but if you try and book it, it’s a different story.

The spec sheet for my Thermo 90 diesel says "12V or 24V".
I think that means it’s available in 12 or 24v. A thermo 90 is too powerful for my usage.

Why not fit a 24v to 12v converter such as the Victron Orion and then use a standard 12v heater?
Because I can get a 24v version.

Butler Technik got back to me and they can get a 12v kit modded to 24v. Panic over. Thanks for your help.

Aren't the 5kW ones available in 24V?
I couldn’t find them.
I’m waiting for a response from Butler Tecnics

I wonder why ?
You wanted a 24v water heater and you could not find a 24v Webasto - you have been shown 24v Marine water heaters from both Webasto & Eberspacher.
Do you have some special requirements - maybe someone can suggest alternatives if you care to explain what your needs are.
I’ve been told that I shouldn’t get one that is too powerful for my use. Maybe on a wide beam a 9-10kw heater would be ok. I know Old Son said that his was ok but I’d rather not take the risk. I did state that it’s a new build narrowboat in my post.

Neither of which is appropriate for my boat. Thanks anyway.

I’ve got 560 ah lifepo4 batteries if it makes any difference.

Looking for a central heating boiler for my newbuild narrowboat. Can’t seem to make my mind up. My system is 24v. Boat is 65’. I’ve been looking at the webasto evo kit but can’t find a 24v model. Any advice is welcome. Thanks

Interesting prop/rudder arrangement - does it rotate enough to give a stern thruster type push?
Yes. I’ve got it on my existing boat and it steers very well in reverse

Good afternoon. What are the best way to monitor tank levels in waste and water tanks. I’m looking at something that will be compatible with a Cerbo gx, if it’s possible. Thanks in advance.

If it discharges into a bucket, the pipe is blocked somewhere you have yet to find.
You can’t be wrong. I can only think that there could be an airlock somewhere.

Good afternoon. I have a Matromarine toilet that won’t flush. I’ve rodded all of the pipe work, still no joy. I’ve run it without the check valve, no difference. I’ve run it with the discharge pipe directly into a bowl and it works fine. Any advice will be helpful. Thank you.

Solvent weld waste pipe will not let smells out and is far cheaper than Vetus sanitary hose which is crippling expensive and not in my experience that good. I have never seen a vertical toilet waste tank, especially one so large in a narrow boat. Where is the pump out fitting? In the roof?
Yes, as is the vent-rinse outlet
20 minutes ago, MartynG said:I expect so . Also wondering how the toilet waste gets to the 5ft tall tank .

I have a Tecma loo. Then a 2” pipe with shutoff valve and 2 non return valves. The pipe enters at the top.

What kind of Vetus waste pipe? Flexible barrier sanitary hose?
I had a 3m length of that on my boat for 17 years and it never smelled. It's possible to over-bend it and rupture the barrier layer, but how does your mate actually know that the smell is coming from the pipe? It's often very difficult to isolate smells to a particular location or component. The only way I know of with a pipe is to take a damp cloth rub it against the pipe and then go outside and sniff the cloth.
He replaced it and it stopped smelling.

Butyl sanitation hose is said to be odour free, mine is. See here:

or here:

They will do the tank and fittings too, also give good advice.
Thanks.

I understand that on its edge it will easily go thru the door (only 1') but have you got 4+ feet of height between your hatch and the steps ?

Just about. It’ll go in at an angle.

But surely that is simply using the wrong type of pipe, rather than the wrong tank.
My mate has Vetus waste pipe and it stinks. It’s about four years old.

Your question is rather non-specific (vague).
Presumably you mean a black waste (toilet) holding tank rather than grey? Some boats have grey water tanks.
Any reputable brand of plastic black waste holding tank should be be made of barrier materials and won't smell.. However, the way it's plumbed in and vented is down to the person fitting it and if it's not done to a certain standard to prevent smells you can't blame the tank.
I only asked because I have heard of people having smells from the pipes going to and from the tank and didn’t want to make the wrong choice.
Just now, Alan de Enfield said:That seems to be quite a large tank (about 500+ litres) can you fit that thru your doors ?
Yes. It’s only a foot wide.

My last boat had a plastic tank, there was no smell ever from the system when I owned the boat. The present owner is a forum member, if its smelling by now I am sure he will respond but I think correctly fitted plastic tanks with the best pipes and fittings are smell free.
Thank you. It will be 5’ high 4’ deep and 1’ wide. I have this size on my current boat and because of the small footprint it rinses out really well. It will be in a vented cupboard, so should be ok.

Good morning.
is it possible to fit a plastic waste tank that won’t start to smell. -
I have a Victron 50 amp charger that works fine on the landline, but goes straight to float when I switch over to the generator. Any ideas please.
Tidal Thames.

Thanks. Our problem is that a few of us have booked our holidays based on the incoming tide at 5.00am.
