    Moorings

Your message did'nt appear ?Tony Thanks for info, I have done a Google on it, got the phone numbers, looks good on paper. Are you there ? Any more info would be greatTony
  2. Thanks Keith, I am a firm believer in Google ,but it seemed to let me down on this subject. I cannot believe your link, it takes straight to Harworth Heating Ltd, which is about a mile from where I live ! Thanks again. Tony PS: would still like some info on the oil tank location if anyone can help.
  3. I guess they have you everyway. I was just recently offered a 55' berth (finger) to moor a 57' NB, but was told I would have to pay by the foot, i.e. 57'. No doubt if my boat had been 50', I would have had to pay the full 55' of the finger. Regards Tony
  4. Mike, You certainly seem to know your fires. Couple of questions for you (if you do not mind) 1) Could you forward me the Bubble web address ? 2) If I were to choose such a fire, where is the most sensible place to locate a diesel fuel tank, assuming a forwardly positioned fire (corner). If I suggest this fit to my builder, I want to be prepared with the fact (if possible) Regards Tony
  5. Hi Kathy, The fire and surround looks wonderful. I think I can see what you mean about the corner shape/design. I does sit well. You are obviously a convert to the Ecofan by the sounds of it. Take care, catch you later. Tony
  6. Thanks Mike, I am intrigued by the diesel fire. As much as I like tradition, I am all for rapid on/off technology. As we wont be living on board, I really do not want to spend time cleaning fires out. What make did you have fitted ? I guess the Ecofan would work the same with the diesel option ? Regards Tony

    Moorings

Hello everyone, Not sure if this is the done thing but here goe's. I will take the flack if I am out of order. I have recently looked at moorings at Ventnor Farm Marina (near Rugby/Dunchurch/Warwickshire). They look the business, but I guess it is easy to fall for the beauty of something ,but the reality could be something else. Does anyone know the marina well enough to offer any comments ? Regards Tony

Pav, Thanks for that info (and everyone else too). My instinct tells me the PVC would be more practical, although I do like the look and feel of the woven fabric. I will definately do as you have done, and visit Wilsons as the boat build progresses, as I would like to see the loose furniture you spoke about. I have looked at their website which looks good. Is their showroom better ? Hope the build is going OK. Regards Tony
  9. Hello again, At the risk of being boring, as previously stated, we are having a 57' boat being built for June 2008,(still at the planning stage), and obvously are trying to get things as near to correct as possible, although I suppose that never happens. As a lot of you are existing and expeirienced boat owners etc, I am sure you can help with this question, or at least offer an opinion. So far you have been great in drawing attention to details of my previous questions. Hope you can help with these. The boat we are having has the usual 5KW central heating with radiators etc, and a solid fuel fire in the front corner of the forward lounge/saloon. The builder tells me that the standard fire he fits is OK but if we are looking at keeping it on overnight, it may be worth looking at going for a slightly bigger fire .We dont intend to have a back boiler connected to it. Can anyone offer further information ? .Instinct tells me that these fires must be a source of some real mess, based on the solid fuel fire I inherited in my house, which was soon replaced by an equivalent coal effect thing burning LPG (no mains gas to house), which gives all the cosy looking appearance and the heat, but non of the debris which needs to carted through the lounge, kitchen, porch, only to blow over you when you open the back door. Maybe I exagerate, but I guess you know what I mean Secondly, someone at a marina I visited recently, in my search for moorings, tried to explain to me of a device that sits on top of the solid fuel fire in the form of a Fan which sounded like it was driven by convection ,which in turn, pushes the hot air around the adjacent area. He spoke as though it was commonly used. Has anyone heard or used such a device and are they any good. Regards Tony

Hi everyone, I found this topic while trolling through this excellent web site. On the subject of Wilsons, I contacted them about a front cratch cover and they sent me a full range of the materials used for such covers. They consist basically of two types of material, PVC, which has a slight sheen to it and the other is Acrylic which more of a woven type fabric. Does anyone have an opinion or feedback of these materials ,such as ware and tear, cleaning or ability to keep clean etc etc. Regards Tony
  11. Not just yet, I have a few more topics before I start on engines. Thanks folkes, it is a great help reading your comments. I have gathered some really good info. Regards Tony
  12. Hello again, its the Newby again. After some very imformative replies to my "Double Glazing or not ?" question, I cannot resist picking your expert brain's again. As mentioned previously, we are in the process of putting the finishing design touches to a new build 57' traditional style NB. The internal layout will be fairly standard, rear bedroom, seperate bathroom, galley either side, dinette and forward lounge. Based on the fact that most of the time there will only be my wife and myself and our German Shepheard dog, and the boat will be for leisure use and not live-a-aboard, could anyone offer information or advice about what style of dinette to opt for. I appreciate that it coud be very subjective to personal taste, but I am sure there are, Fors and Againsts, of the Pullman versus the L shaped dinette. Both designs offered would accomodate a double bed conversion for the odd visitors. Any advice would be gratefully received. Regards Tony Little.
  13. Hello again, Thanks to you all who offered advice and opinions on the "Double Glazing" topic. Great info, and I tend to think the general concensis is "Yes, if it is of good quality". I will have another chat with my builder and try and thrash it out and take into account all of the advice offered. Great web-site by the way. Regards Tony.
  14. Hello Everyone, My wife and I are new to the forum and have spent an enjoyable few hours reading through some of the topics within the forum. We are at the moment planning various aspects of the fit of a new boat we have ordered for June 2008. We have various things to think about until the build commences, one of which is Window type. Should we go for Single or Double glazed units. The builder seemed hesitant to commit to double glazes units, but said he would do it if we insisted, but also pointed out one or two problems he had encountered over the years, such as faulty glazing units etc and still elements of condensation occuring. We had seen double glazing fitted to a second hand boat we had viewed and the seller seemed enthusiastic about it, but then again ,"he would say that would'nt he". Does anyone have any advice or experience of double glazed versus single glazed units ? Regards Tony & Sue Little
