  1. Thanks for the prompt response. I did not think it unusual to have connectors at both ends, in fact, I think it is standard practice, and would assume for the boat to get its compliance/safety certificate (new build) ,it would be electrically safe. It had crossed my mind as to what happens to the plug plug/socket, not in use, ie, is it dead . (I hope so). Thanks for pointing it out ,and I will check it out with a test meter, when I eventually get my lead, and should it be live, will hand the problem back to the builder as a non compliance issue. Regards Tony Thanks Chris, I aggree, I had no intention of making up the lead. Although competent enough, it is just not worth the time an effort. What I did not want is to have my leg lifted in buying something from the web, because it maybe was stainless or something like that. I would assume 25mts is suitable for most location. Certainly for where I am moored. Thanks again. Tony EDITED Never could spell agree.
  2. Hi Everyone, Could someone please tell me what cable/connectors I need to for Shoreline mains hook up. My boat has a connector at both Bow and Stern bulkheads as usual. Its anew boat, and I am told it is a Hubble type connector (?). I have looked around and see prices ranging from about £20 to £100, but still not sure if I am buying the correct type. Is it the same as the leads used on Caravan hook ups ?. A 25mtr lead for these seem reasonably priced at about £25 for cable, plug and socket. Am I missing something in my attempt to bag a bargain. I am still reeling from the initial shock of chargers for transportation, cranage, marina costs, insurance, the list is endless. I am sure you know where I am coming from. Any help ,please. Regards Tony
  3. Good news, but where from ? Regards Tony
  4. Congratulations !. I had the same experience last Friday night/Saturday morning, its just great ! Waking up in natures back garden, Magic. Regards Tony
  5. I hope this hasn't already been done to death, but here goes. (if so, maybe point out the thread) I see many NBs with the little rubber car type aerials on top, which I assume is for a FM car type radio ?, running from the 12v. I had thought of using a 240vac standard FM/CD/Casette type combo as per used at home. We have all the usual stuff, 240 vac inverters on board etc. Could anyone advise "which is best", or give the benefit of your experience etc Regards Tony
  6. Its a a fair point though Keith, and I have been thinking all morning about it. I could not be there when they did the work on the actual day, but I think I will have her back in dry dock ,inspect the work etc and satisfy myself it was done as per promise etc. Although very important, I am trying to keep it in prospective. Thanks again Tony
  7. I know, you are correct Keith, its all gone through my head as well, but the idea was to put her into dry dock and fix/weld them on. Hopefully correctly, and reblackened ? I can only hope for the best. Tony
  8. Well spotted Clivo, If you look at my post#12 on this article, I sort of mention "a couple of issues" I had, one of which was the Anodes missing. When I turned up on launch day, it was the first thing I noticed too. (being an amatuer and all that). Anyway, I dont want to be too hard on anyone, as mistakes do happen, and hopefully it was taken care of on Friday of this week. This is where a good reputable builders comes good. Thanks for the lovely comments about the boat. The nerves have not yet fully gone ,but we hope to get nerve free soon. Still a lot to learn, but I have already met some lovely people, who always seem to be ready to help you. Hope it happens for you soon. Thanks again. Tony
  9. Hi Maggie, Lovely to hear from you. I looked for you on Launch Day, but I think you were out & about. Your boat is famous now, being on the Piper Booklet etc. Look forward to meeting you all soon. So funny how all 3 end up on the same finger at the same marina. Regards Tony & Sue. Thanks Keith, I looked again ,and see you can actually use the link as a Slideshow. I have a lot to learn about Photobucket, and a lot to learn about boating. Looking forward to both. Standby for the questions, they are already building up. Regards Tony
  10. Great, Looks like I will be able to play after all. Job change round so looks like I still wont be around ,but will be boating after all. Dont go the GU Canal in the next few days by the way. Got to get the shine off that new boat. Should'nt be a problem I think. Tony
  11. Thanks Stewey, I looked at the link and rushed through it, not sure if the photos are formatted correctly,or even if it will work, but here goes. Need to play with it a bit more. Let me know what went wrong. Wont be around for a few days, not boating I am afraid, have to work to pay for it. http://s330.photobucket.com/albums/l437/Tony_lit/ Tony
  12. Sorry Keith, you are way ahead of me here. The furthest I've got is they are of my camera, and onto my PC. Sounds like a challenge ahead. Dont get me wrong, I am ofey with Pcs etc, but just have never had the need to show photos on forum/web before. Usualy it is an attachement etc I use, which I guess is a Windows/Microsoft thing. Regards Tony Love the picture by the way Keith. When I was pottering around on Saturday morning, a full "gaggle" of Canada geese came by my new boat looking for tit bits. I just felt so privelidged. Much like your picture. Tony
  13. Sorry Guys, I am having a little trouble getting picture on the forum ,I glaced the help guide, but still dont see how. Is their a black art I need to know ? Tony
  14. Thanks everyone for the support. I can see some of you have been through by your comments, as some of you described some of to a tee. I have some good photos ( and a couple of issues I need to keep quiet on at the moment) which I will try and get on the Forum. It went, not too bad, and I did have a few last night, and then slept on board . Cheers everyone. Tony
  15. Thanks Liam and Denboy. I am absolutly S*** Scared. I know all I have to do is watch ,but I really am nervous about the whole thing. What have we done ? Will try and get photos, if I can hold the camers still enough Regards Tony
  16. It is finally going to happen tomorrow PM. Boat going in at Crick Marina. Could anyone tell me what it should reasonably cost to crane a 57 footer of a truck and plop it into the water.I believe the crane is already there ! Lets hope it stops up in the water. Tony
  17. Hi Everyone, Could anyone tell me what they call the little wooden (usually) device that clip on/hang from the hand rails of a traditional style NB to hold the side fenders. Secondly, are they essential, or just nice to have sort of devices ?. My feeling is they are essential as most of the boats I have seen only have about 3 fender eyes on each side, and going back to our plastic boat (GRP) ,they are never where you want them/ Regards Tony
  18. Thanks everyone, you can tell its going to be an interesting time ahead. Tony
  19. Hello Everyone, I did ask this question before (along with another one that got plenty of replies, but not this subject) What would you Guys suggest I need on board a 57' NB around the Crick / Grand Union area. Will I need a anchor, or a Mud Weight, or both ?. I would not envisage any river work, until I get my wings ,sort of speak. Suggestions please ! Tony
  20. Thanks DB, I also rang Crick office, where we will be mooring ,and they said just that. I then contactd BWs and they also confirmed it too. Regards Tony
  21. Hi everyone, Not long to go now. Can anyone recommend a good web site for Narrowboat fenders. If no web sites, what about chandlers you could recommend (Midlands/Northampton area approx) Anything to watch for buying and fitting such stuff ? May as well ask while I am on, will I need an anchor or a Mud weight, or both for a 57' boat. We intend to moor at Crick ,so I guess that will be our initial cruising area. I am sure after delivery I will be full of more questions, but so far, this site has helped me immensely ,through the great wilderness of starting up. Hope someone can oblige Regards Tony
  22. Thanks Les, Did you mean you actually took the form to the marina office or was it a Waterways Office. I thought I may have needed it before getting on the water? Tony
  23. Core blimey, completely messed up here, have you got Gery's thread of his prediction. Its a shame to hear of builders going under. Tony Or even Gary's threrad. That should be thread, and I am looking to work a 57 footer ?, God help us .
  24. Hi everyone, Our builder is threatening to have our boat ready soon, could someone tell me please, is this the correct form I need for a Waterways Licence to cruise the canals and rivers etc. I have the fees from the same site. So much to do. Thanks in advance. The link would be a good idea http://www.waterscape.com/media/documents/1850.pdf
  25. Hi there, I am the chap asking the question, and to be perfectly honoust I aint got a clue what I will be having ,as the boat is currently being built. But thanks to all your great input, I now know what to look for and the types of glands etc. Thanks everyone, great stuff . Tony
