I think it depends on the degree to which the poster seems naive and at odds with normality. For example, if a new poster came on here and said they really liked eating babies (or worse, but probably better not print it here) and did we know any good dark website where he might buy a baby to eat (or worse), maybe from the far east perhaps?

Would you calmly explain that doing such things with babies wasn't really acceptable and was illegal, or would it be straight out with the hate? I suspect for most people, it would be the latter.

The ramblings of a warped mind?

Early in our boating days our 19ft Fairline came to an abrupt stop on the Bridgewater canal. Lifting the outboard we found about six feet of a thin ply canoe surrounding the leg. The prop and surrounding bits had gone right through the bottom of it. It was a bit like solving one of those metal puzzles that used to be found in Christmas crackers, twisting it one way and then the other to get it free. It was soggy and heavy, but thankfully the outboard was undamaged. Otherwise in later years we were stopped dead by an anorak (the clothing item) in Northgate staircase and a vintage builders rubble bag in the middle of Gosty Hill Tunnel. That was not a particularly happy moment.

Very astute of you to deduce that the rubble bag belonged to a vintage builder.

I'm in love with the advert. It's Smoooth with a capital S. Defnitely directed at a London market, white and sky blue with props in all the right places. Shame no engine/electronic pics.Love the central light/ventilation landing strip!

"With props in all the right places" How many props does a narrowboat need and in how many places? I think one, maybe two if you have a girly button.

I think the outlook is not good. The "businessman" owner will have have learned some lessons from this so will revise his high rise housing plans so that they are more likely to succeed next time. The customers probably won't have the energy to mount such a good campaign next time, the newspapers will be less interested because it won't be "new" news, and the customers and landlord won't be investing much energy (or money) in the place because they know it most likely has no future. Only option is for the "community" to buy the place but because it is likely worth much much more as high rise flats than a pub then this is likely not viable.

If anybody here has a bit of cash to spare, and a social conscience, then the local (and not so local) community are urgently trying to buy the Barge Inn at Honeystreet (K&A)  from the current owner who is trying to turn it into a nice big house for himself.

If this bid fails then a truly historic and iconic canalside pub, and major canal landmark, will become a private residence. This will likely also lead to the loss of the visitor moorings which are amongst the most spectacular on the canal system. The current owner has already tried to change the public right of way which gives access to these moorings.

The barge was bought a few years ago,by the community and a huge grant from the lottery fund, but I seem to remember it went belly up with huge debts after a while.

So would a mixture of oil and diesel work for a few years? Diesel is great as a penetrating oil, so would get into the pores of old, rusty steel. On an old boat, with inaccessible parts in the bilge it’s just not feasible to reach, to treat with Vactan and then paint, but directing a jet of oily “ yackum”  should do the trick.

Does diesel not float on water?

Sophie our lurcher went through a long phase of skin irritations on her feet leading to serious infections and sadly the amputation of a toe. As CC'ers we saw loads and loads of different vets who prescribed all sorts of medications. Eventually we visited a wonderful Indian gentleman and vet in Parbold on the L&L who suggested dog shoes whenever her feet begin to show irritation. It worked.

Did the vet recommend Hush puppies?
