    It's Ready!

You`ve got real staying power-mine went months ago!!
  2. Welcome to boating. Unless you are a business there are no sensible reasons for buying a boat so you are just as crazy as the rest of us! Richard Mooring? Some of us live on them?
  3. Dont get me wrong-I often stop and chat to fisherfolk, when walking, cycling or boating, but I think nearly poking me off my bike is excessive- I wasnt going fast and I had seen him and thought he`d seen me....I dont think thats being stroppy...or am I?
  4. What is it with these new telescopic fishing rods? They seem to need an acre of equipment, including rests that apparently have to be positioned across the path, and its hilarious when they pull them out the water into your path, especially when cycling-like a modern day jousting competition- a competition I almost lost this morning; I was forced onto the grass and when I cursed at the fisherman was given the filthiest look. So as not to ruin a good mood at the start of the day I decided just to continue but how does everyone else respond to these fisher-jousters? I am in no way anti-fisherfolk and I dare say these new rods are great on rivers or where there is less traffic, but the middle of Bathampton on a saturday morning is just selfish, dangerous and to my mind, unnessecary!
  5. I overstayed at Bathampton recently as i needed to get repairs to the boat, and never got any hastle! I had informed BW i would be staying longer than 24hrs and they were cool with that!
  6. Thar is so cute-very expensive but a thing of beauty!! Want one but do already have a singer hand machine that is great and doesnt look out of place in the boatmans!
  7. Evening, I know some people that live there and they seem to like it-quite social if you want to be, not far to cycle into town, all the usual facilities as well as a campsite which is handy when family come to stay! As far as I`m concerned i may as well live in a terraced house-packed in like sardines!
  8. What an almighty pair! Chris P on a snowy cut!
  9. Yehhh, thank you! October 1949-which makes it older than some but chuffed to know-any excuse for a birthday party!!
  10. in here, in here, in here......
  11. I have a premier, pictured above and although I only tend to use it for cruising and engine warming I find it fine! It can be a pain chopping extra small logs for it but I guess that may be a problem with all smaller stoves. I had never used one before I moved onto the boat so still learning, as I am with the Esse so by next year I should be an expert! Keeps my knees lovely and warm when cruising as well as cooking me food and coffee-invaluble when single handing! I`m sure a google search for these ranges should provide some help with wheere to buy them! Sally
  12. How do I date my Kelvin J2?
  13. http://www.nigelsecostore.com/acatalog/Solar_Air_Vent.html I`ve installed one of these-got one bit cheaper but same sort of thing! You can get cheaper ones but be aware of how much air per hour it shifts as the cheaper ones dont move much! It fits into a 4" mushroom vent hole without any cuttitng of metal-just adjusting the ceiling lining very slightly! Bonus is that it sucks and blows(!! ) so will move air in the summer! I stick mine on in the morning-its in the bedroom-then while its off in the day it charges up to use it in the evening to relieve some of the heat from the stove-I`ve left it on all night and not run out of juice! You can get marine chrome ones or the conservatory type(wat I got) that comes with three options of colour-the brown actually dont look too bad on a cream roof! Highly recommended!
  14. I know the type you mean-good idea...ta!
  15. I guess just make that part of regular miantainance is the easiest way to go-the way its deigned surely there is always going to be forces acting on some part or other? Just makes boating more exciting
  16. when I left the water point, engaged gear with wheel, then once in forward the wheel kept spinning loose! I was already proceeding away from the side and tried to jump off and keep her in(no chance!) so had to leap aboard, into the engine room and pull the gear chain into neutral then get to back, jump off and pull boat back in! Phew! On realising the split pin that keeps the wheeel ingaged was no longer there, set to a temporary repair with some wire.... moving off again realised the same was not thick enough, so repeat earlier scampering and find thicker wire till a friend furnished me with a shiny, sturdy split pin whilst being very careful and gentle about changing gear! Will these learning curves straighten out?? i think not!! Good job I like cornering!!
  17. Greetings! Thought you may have had enough of the careful, negative approach to your situation..I sure am! We come this way only once, just do it! Oh and there is an inlet with a little bridge almost opposite ss gb that is residential Winter moorings are not much more than BW ones and you actually get water and electric for your money Depending what work you do it is perfectly possible to CC and work- I did it for a year before I went part time If you buy a boat through Channel yacht sales they will let you stay there until you get a mooring and finally....I`m pretty sure you have to have a boat to apply for permanent mooring in the harbour, and say its for residential use-they turn a blind eye to people living in the docks but there are silly little rules like not putting your washing out Good luck with it all-you can pm me if you need any help as I lived in the harbour, on the river and on the canal whilst working in Bristol! Sally
  18. In my motorhome the loo is used very infrequently and there has never been an odour problem.
  19. No sorry give up.....OP?? As previously mentioned, fuel is my next port of call and changing the two filters-dont worry-I can find them
  20. Thats why I love this website-what a wealth of knowledge! Thanx guys! Not sure how many hours she has done since last service so thought I would start with oil which can always help with being changed, then move on to filters-my gennt has just been serviced and mucky deisel was blocking filter so I guess would filter down to engine also?? Will let you know how I go-wish there was Kelvin nightschool, but guess this is where I am now! Cheers Sally
  21. Yeh...I was told not to worry about the water pump...thats just wat they do! Thanx for your PM...planning on servicing her next week so wish me luck! Cheers Sally
  22. Yeh..thats the leaky thing on the right front as you look at it....It has been re-packed but needs tightening with finger tool! Have replied to PM..ta
  23. I am confused...I know I`m only a girl but my Kelvin J2 dont look like what it says in the book and on photos of others!! I seem to be lacking an oil pump and therefore any way of removing oil from the sump! I admit that the side normally facing the front (with the spark plugs/injectors on) will vary according to starting method, but there I seem not be able to locate a governor! I am trying so hard to understand and care for my engine but this has got me perplexed and I`m sure one of you out there has a simple solution! Cheers Sal
  24. Thanx for that; it does make sense even though survey and insurance date the oldest part of the hull and not the greatest, whcih I guess would be 1970`s?? Not sure where a discussion on motoring comes into general boating but appreciate the time!! sal
  25. Silly question but how much of a boat should remain for it to be classed as historic? It dont make an awful lot of difference but I feel a fraud calling summit "historic" if its not......about 14` is 1935, remainder of steel hull from 1972 and steel cabin in 2004! the surveyor put her down as being 1935 but shes not really....is she???
