Isnt it time this thread was locked now out of respect for Travis and the family of the victim?

Fazeley? Wonder if it was the same lot that broke in to the Rugeley boats?

Sturdy is the word. Im sure I saw a small vertical pole on it a few years back that they used to grab, kick off from the bank and glide across. It seems to be minus this little Mod this year. If you havn't eaten at the little bistro at the caravan park yet give it a go. We had a great and reasonably priced snack there.
Edit; typo.

All things within reason I guess, but we came across this very recently. We counted 13 on the outside at one point as well as more inside that we couldn't count. Surely this is unsafe bearing in mind the Stourport/Severn incident some years back.

Hi Dan, just back from the Llangollen ourselves. You should make it to the basin ok, just stick to the middle. There was a working pair just outside the basin as we arrived. The walk to HorseShoe falls is well worth it (2miles) and you pass the motor museum. I can recommend a pint at the Chain Bridge Hotel too. Very close to the falls.
The "run down" Hotel is the Bryn Howell. Its claim to fame is Pavaroti stayed there when he played at Llangollen. Apparently they had to move a bedroom wall and increase the bath size to suit his needs LOL. I can recommend the Corn Mill too if you enjoy a good steak.

Theres also the "Quest" channel too

Propex blown air gas heater when away from the mooring? Very similar to a diesel heater but no need to carry an extra fuel.

Hi there, your thoughts about the CDI unit are probably correct. There is growing evidence of these CDI units failing, I myself know of 3 people having to replace them. It seems mainly to affect the silver topped engines.
A good quick test is to spray the connector with WD40 and give it a very slight twist, It wont, or shouldnt move much, but you will probably find it will run better at low revs until the WD40 dries away.
Edit; typo's

And a one cyclinder diesel "Sole" engine too.

Sea Otter until their recent restructure were trailing their boats for years using a Toyota Landcruiser. We used the service to move our 26ft'er from the Avon to Stone Staffs.
http://www.tonytugboats.com Is very helpful and provides an excellent trailing service. (I have no financial interest with him).

Just round the corner from my moorings The offside near the reeds is a little shallow, though you would have to be very close in to have a problem. Just watch out for the very territorial pair of swans that usually nest over there.
Anglowelsh had speed trails there a couple of years ago complete with bamboo poles to reverse between Much to the annoyance of those moored along side who were getting bumped into the armco by the wash.

Another factor will be whether you require a standard or long shaft outboard, dependant on the height of your transom to the water line.
For canals an older 15hp or modern 9.9hp would give you enough power range from slow manoeuvre through to 6-7mph. A boult on rudder extension will give you better handling at slow speeds.
Edit to add;

Not impressed myself, first 'proper' years boating I had planned on Ariel, and aimed to do the BCN and the various rallies and gatherings which were planned, now it's all gone to pot.
Same with us too, Oh well, I always wanted to go North.

Is that Pipsqueak the Sea Otter Owen?

Is the Caldon worth a visit folks? Cruised past the junction many a time and wondered....Gonna check it out at Easter - Is it all industrial or do we get 'picture postcard' views? Thoughts please.....
Andrew
Hi Andrew,,,,, Nope mate you will hate it Seriously Its brill and well worth a visit, the first few miles isnt up to much, then it just gets better and better. We really liked the Leek branch, I think you can still get as far as the tunnel despite the breach further up. (Please tell me if I have that wrong folks).
-
Is that the lock by Caldon College John? I always think its an odd location there, maybe its the redevelopment land nothing seems to match its surroundings. But how glorious the Caldon gets further on.

There's my little offering, Any good? Let you decide.

It went a bit weird on me last night too, I got a message saying IPS Driver Database Corrupt, what ever that means.
-
Not seen around Great Haywood yesterday either

Looks like his original boat has been sold by the insurers too. It passed our mooring on the T&M last weekend going south for a new paint job. I didnt get much chance to speak to the skipper, but he said it didnt take much work to get the engine working. Happy cruising to him too.

Wondering if this post should be made sticky for a while?
-
Has been done here two.
- Needed to stop, didnt like the moorings, MUG wieghts!
LOL, your keyboard is as good as mine Daniel

If you drop weighs so your boat isn't touching the off side then I don't see that anyone, even the land owner can complain, unless it's a morring, but if you step off then they can. I've often considered doing this at Tixhall wide when the moorings are full..
You might have to do battle with the pair of swans who seem to fend off any one who approaches that side of the wide. I have seen it done once with a chap fishing for bream

One thing I have noticed about Jim Sheads site is that boat names have to be entered exactly as registered, there's no allowances for missed capitols or an apostrophe, it simply returns a "not found" msg.
We are the News of the World.
