  1. Thanks Blackrose - it's definitely 'side doors' that we're wanting - not a 'side hatch' - I didn't realise they were different!! What other way would you suggest we make it secure rather than using small bolts? Bolts would be the obvious way - but now that you've ponted it out we can see they wouldn't offer sufficient security. With regards to getting the fire fitted, Denis has suggested a couple of names in the area that I'll contact next week - but if they don't work out should we be looking at boatyards or boat builders would you think?
  2. Thanks a million for the information Denis - will follow it up as soon as we get 'on board' Regards Jackie
  3. I have already said we'd be in a marina in Leicestershire!!! Loughborough to be precise!
  4. We're about to move onto our boat (next weekend) and would like to have a Becton Bunny stove fitted and also a side hatch put in as soon as possible. Can anyone recommend someone who would give us a quote for the work or suggest how we would go about finding someone to do it - we'll be in a marina in Leicestershire and would like for it to be done at the marina if possible. Please don't suggest that we do it ourselves - my husband isn't a very confident 'DIY'er' and would flatly refuse to cut holes in the boat!!! How would we know we weren't cutting through the wiring - and - if it comes to that - how would anyone else know? Any ideas please????
  5. Thanks again guys - 15" it will be!!
  6. We're about to get a flat sreen LCD tv for the boat and I was thinking of getting a 15" screen - but now don't know if it will be big enough - what's everybody else using please??

    Boat Pole??

Thanks guys - at least I now know where I should be looking!!

    Boat Pole??

Doh!!! How stupid do I feel - never thought about a chandlers!!! I was looking at timber merchants!!! Thanks Carlt!!
  9. Can anyone suggest where I can get a boat pole from? I've searched everywhere I can think of on the internet and can't find one anywhere.
  10. Thanks Chris J W - I knew I'd seen it somewhere - I was looking in the wrong place!!
  11. Hi We collect our boat at the beginning of January and become 'Liveaboards' - ooer not long to go now! House is beginning to feel like a vast empty shell!! I'm a bit confused as to which license to get. I know BW do a 'Gold' license which will take us anywhere - but what waterways does their other license cover, and for the waterways that aren't covered by BW, who do we get the license from? Should we just go for the Gold and be done with it? We're going to be marina bound (at Pillings Lock) for a few months until hubby retires (other than weekend cruises and holidays) but after that we'll be cc-ing. Thanks in advance for your advice Jackie
  12. Hi again everyone We complete the sale of our house on 3rd Jan. and will pick up our boat the following weekend. Just wondered what your opinions were on the following: 1) We've got a 60' semi trad narrowboat. It hasn't got a stove but it has got Webasto central heating with 3 radiators and a heated towel rail in the bathroom - are we going to be warm enough come Jan/Feb? 2) What exactly do we need in the way of a shore line? We'll be in a marina at least until April/May time (other than weekends out). We'll be mooring bow end nearest the power boallard and the shore line socket is at the stern end of the boat. 3) I've read a little about i) multimeter and ii) galvonic isolator - what are they exactly and are we going to need them? 4) We intended using T.Mobile 'Web and Walk' modem to get our laptop up and running - but now it looks as though we may not be able to pick it up in the area that the marina is in - any other suggestions/recommendations of something similar? Can't wait to start our life aboard - it's been forever coming and now it's just round the corner. This getting rid of stuff is a bit scary though!!! I'm sure that once we're on board I'm going to need something that I've already got rid of!! Still - guess it'll just be too late then - I'll simply have to make do. Jackie
  13. Your wife has my deepest sympathy - I would guess she did it on the spur of the moment without even having time to consider the consequences - a lesson hard learnt!! She'll not forget her first voyage in a hurry!!!
  14. Hey - it looks to be a great boat - exactly what we were looking for - the lady at the brokerage sent me details of all the boats on a dvd but she woudln't let us look at Scarlet Pimpernel until we'd got a buyer for our house - are you living on it?
  15. Thanks everyone for your advice. Scarlet Pimpernel - have you only just bought your boat? We were looking at a Scarlet Pimpernel but it sold before we were able to sell our house. Could it be the same one? 57' cruiser stern - Liverpool hull - Used Boat Co fitout?
  16. Ok - so dare I ask - is anyone prepared to or can anyone recommend a good surveyor in the Nottingham area??? Don't all jump down my throat!!!!!
  17. Aaaagh!!!!! If we were to have a survey done - with it being a new build - would it still have to come out of the water or could it be surveyed in the water?
  18. Thanks again guys. Good thought Stuart - anybody know how we can find out about outstanding finance. Yes Yoda, most definately we'll fit both a smoke detector and a CO detector. Better to be safe than sorry!!!!
  19. Guess that's what the sites all about - being a newcomer I just don't like to be the cause of any trouble!! I'm sure you're all the best of friends really
  20. No problem there Yoda - we've already got our mooring ready and waiting. Thanks to the info from this forum we were able to find out that the mooring always comes first!! It's not classed as a new boat 'cos it's 12 months old - just never ever been used. The cooker, bed, fridge etc all still have their wrappers on!! We've been told that the balance (remaining time) of any warranty/guarantee that the original owners had will be passed on to us. It's looking pretty good I reckon!!!
  21. Come on boys - calm down - I didn't mean to cause a Monday morning rumpus - it was just a simple question!!
  22. Okay guys - looks as though it's sorted. It hasn't got a BSC (in spite of what it says on the boat details on the website) - it has got an RCD certficate dated 17th Sept 2006. I believe we'll be fine to go ahead and buy without our needing a survey - do you agree?? Also it seems I was wrong about the fitout. The boat was built and fitted out by Dave Clark and the soft furnishings were made and supplied by JennyWren. Dave Clark seems to be a reputable bulder - what do you think??
  23. Hi Blackrose - sounds like you've had a good weekend!! The hull is a Dave Clark hull and the fit-out was by Jenny Wren - the only thing left to do is the final coat of paint and put the coach stripes on - everything else is done. If you guys would like to have a look at it - it's on Nottingham Boat Sales website (www.notts-boats.co.uk) and is the 60' semi-trad 'No Name 2'. I'm just going to ask them the question Gary raised re why RCD and BSS certificate. I'll update you when I've got an answer.
  24. Hi Stuart Thanks for the reply I have absolutely no doubts in my head whatsoever - the boat is immaculate in every single way and has on everything we could have asked for and more and all brand new - and I felt sure we would be safe not having a survey done. But, being completely new to not only narrowboating, but more importantly buying a narrowboat - I just wondered what the opinion of the more experienced would be. I was under the impression that a survey on a boat under 12 months old was unnecessary. But I may be wrong!! As hubby would tell me - I often am!!! Jackie
