  1. Just returned from a very last minute break on the K/A canal.

Phoned Sally rowboats at Bradford on Avon up sat morning was offered an excellent price for a 3 night break with a late return on Tuesday night.

The boat we had was a 54ft 4 berth Semi called Leah, it might not have had the flashy things boats have these days but was line with real wood and very comfortable.

The staff at the yard were brilliant, very helpful cheerful and friendly.

First time on the K/A considering we used to live right near until moving to somerset.

Would just like to recommend Sally narrow boats for anyone wanting good service and great boats.

next year they hope to have some new boats and current models are being updated.

One of their 6 berth boats called Martha is defiantly worth looking at

Would also say what a great time of year to cruise as well.

  2. we are thinking of trying to get a few days away this weekend

looking at Saisons boats at whilton, any route idea preferably without any locks, looked at going as far as blissworth tunnell, can anyone tell whats passed ther and what is do able in 3 days

  3. Hi any ideas, we were planning to hire a boat with soild fuel stove/fire in early march and cruise the llangollen but i see there will be some stoppages at new marton locks, which will prevent us getting very far.

Does anyone know of any other 4 berth craft which we could hire on a pleaseant stretch of waterway with not too many locks

  4. i must admit i am struggling with this converstion, i have been hiereing boats for nearly 30years, broads and canals.

have many a time gone to look at buying my own but have felt financialy it safer to hirer.

When i am boating i can think the same as a private ownwer thinks but this time it is against the private, some are polite some are stuck and some just completley ignore you and think they are the cats whiskers.

I completley agree with others saying without hireres where would the canals be.

we should all help one another whenever it is needed :lol:

  5. hi folks only 2 days to go and i am not sure what route to take

we are going from rugby and would like peoples comments on the best route to go for a weeks cruise, i have looked at going up the Ashby then down to Braunston.

Would appreciate as many views as possible

  6. Booked paid and received guides back already

Booked with UK Holidays last friday

Going from Rugby with Viking narowboats on Astrid(Derwent class)

Received confirmation and books on Tuesday what a good service that is

    Cant wait

  7. After deciding to start my holiday from gayton, we are looking to book a holiday the end of August for 1 week, the plan is to visit the Ashby canal and back again.

can anyone give me some idea as to what length of cruising time i could have each day.

What would be the earliest starting off time and the latest time to moor up for the day.

Any info would be most appreciative

    Mick

  8. Alvechurch and Viking are both part of the ABC leisure Group, so you're simply deciding between two arms of the same company. I wouldn't choose either, I'd pick one of the smaller family run companies, when we hired they always gave the best service and the boats were usually better.

Whatever you decide to do have a good holiday and I hope the sun shines.

    :)

    Ken

    Thanks for advice

Regarding club card vouchers we have saved up over £200 worth which is worth £800 if we use either Viking or Alvechurch so this the reason for these 2 otherwise i would choose a smaller and better boat yard

  9. Presumably you have seen what these firms have to offer in terms of boats, routes and prices? If you can't make a decision based on this information let us know what other factors you want to take into account and I'm sure someone will be along soon to assist.

My deceisions are from the following

    1. we are using tesco clubcard vouchers

2.Gayton are £300 more expensive but are 5 start boats

3.i have never had a sem trad which operate from gayton, cruise from viking boats

    4. the trip, well not alot in it, i plan to go up the ashby and back to whatever boat yard i pick

    5. i think the alvechurch boats look more classy than Vikingbut not sure

  10. I must agree the DEli in Ellsmere is out of this world, worth going for, also if you moor in Chirk mariana and wonder up to the golf club you are more than welcome to go in and have a drink/snack or meal, very reasonable as well, plus sit outside on the veranda and take in the views while you are having a pint.(have one for me)

  11. Hi folks, would like to pick all your brains

    4. start from lower heyford on the oxford canal and see how far we can go.
