  1. Hi folks, when ordering a Chinese diesel heater from eBay/Amazon does anyone know what needs to be swapped out to make it a compliant install with bss? this model is what we’re thinking to install
  2. Hi, our gas locker is not in use yet as it needs ventilation drilled through the hull. Can anyone advise what size of holes are adequate for ventilating a gas locker? Is it a set size or is it worked out based on area etc? thank you. Adam
  3. Thanks folks. Enlightening responses, great to have an idea of how the charging process works. Will run at higher rpm when moored up from now on.
  4. Is it much sorer on fuel to run at Higher revs?
  5. Thanks GUMPY will measure on the next charge and try to work it out 👍
  6. Hi, we have a barrus 40hp with 125amp alternator. We run the engine in idle with no revs to charge the batteries when we aren’t moving. Should we run at higher revs (in neutral) to charge the batteries or is simply running the engine idle with no revs enough to charge? Batteries are 4 Trojan T105 wired in 12v giving 430ah. cheers!
  7. Hi all, how is Uxbridge for mooring is it a safe enough area? We’re on our way through into London. Heard that hayes and bulls bridge are to be avoided.
  8. Hi, we’re servicing our engine for the first time. It’s a barrus shire 40hp. We’re recommended to use “sae 10w 40api class cd oil’ in the manual. our question is do we need to use that exact oil and should it be barrus brand? Or can we use a the generic 10w 40 oil that comes up on a google search. There seems to be loads of different brands so not sure if they’re basically all the same. thanks! Adam
  9. 😂😂 That puts it into perspective! Looks like we have more head scratching to do then. thanks
  10. Thanks MTB, I’ll look these up and get reading. Cheers for your help !
  11. Hi MTB, so does it not really make much difference which thickness of pipe is used? Or does the length of run required make a difference?
  12. Ah ok thanks MTB. I may have misunderstood the hobs heat output. Will look again. Thanks!
  13. Hi could I pick people’s brains again on this topic as I have a bit more info please. Sorry to keep an old thread going. The total heat output of our oven and hob combined is 3.& kw. The run of pipe is approx 7 metres. We will have approx 3 bends in total. Which thickness of copper pipe would be suitable? We’re thinking to get it by the metre from midland chandlers. cheers!
  14. Hi Nick, thanks for sending a copy of the table of pipe diameters and the info. We’re still working on which bits of equipment we require. Minefield so far 😂 cheers !
  15. Hi Nick, thanks. I don’t think they’re strictly for gas but we plan to drill out holes at the bottom to meet the specs. It’s also got a flat bottom and should be fine for 1 bottle. what thickness copper pipe it usually installed is it 10mm or 15mm?
  16. Those are the images of the outside locker, the connections and the bulkhead it needs to pass through 👍
  17. Yes it’s a standard nb with the gas going in the front metal locker. I have some picture saved I’ll just find them now and post 👍 thanks
  18. I will try to find info on that next time I’m at the boat 👍
  19. Hi, we’re struggling to find a gas safe engineer in the midlands (all busy or unavailable). After months of searching we’re not sure how to get it sorted. We’re tempted to at least do a part install (run pipe from appliances, buy the fittings and testers) and get it commissioned/ tested later. Could anyone advise us on the checklist of items we would require such as thickness of copper pipe and what the correct fittings would be for a basic install? We have a separate oven and hob. thanks!
  20. Hi Ian, thank you for your advice! Yes it is the one on contract with Three. We’re still in the first 30 days and we’re advised that the router wont really work well on a boat due to 5g relying on 4g to work (We’re clueless about off grid internet!) When you say the gain isn’t very high is it still a usable and decent internet connection? We’re not using it for more than the average user. Also can I ask what your antenna set up is with that router? cheers! Adam
  21. Hi, we’re trying to get to the bottom of our internet issue (sorry to add another 5g thread as I’ve seen there’s loads). We have a three 5 g router (pictured) it has 4 ts9 connectors which we’ve been advised are for a 5g antenna. We didn’t realise when we got the router that this may be a connectivity issue as 5g in the U.K. relies on 4g. Will the likes of a poynting 4x4 Mimo antenna work to supply 4g and 5g to the router? Or should we downgrade to a 4g router? we don’t want to mod it as it’s a contract device. any help appreciated. cheers!
  22. Hi, possibly a tedious question here, but would there be any issue with installing side nav lights in a position that isn’t all the way up at the front end of the boat(on a narrowboat)? see red dot in pic below Currently inside the boat the cabling ends between to windows near the front of the boat (around 2 metres from the end of the boat sides and the sides are 12metres total) and it would be a lot of faff to fish cable up to the very front as the cladding is complete. Hope this question makes sense. Adam
  23. Great, thanks for clarifying this
