Thank you both for your comments. I'm inclined to take off the old canvas, assess the roof & then reapply new canvas, which doesn't seem too pricey. I've seen some calico in a shop for just over £7 a metre, though I assume I can get this more cheaply.
Yikes, I may not know wooden tops but I know my fabrics, Calico is an open weave light weight and I can't see it doing much of a job. Canvas can be bought here quite cheaply Whaleys of Bradford.

Thank you
Only decent picture I have at the moment...
It's an amazing boat and we're going to take great care of her. Will keep an eye out for you.
She looks very nice indeed, I'm very happy for you, have a great time.

i found this plant at the side of the river and put it in a pot (naughty i know ) but i have no idea what it is, anyone know please.
That's a beaut! Watch out for the pollen it can stain badly!

Did anyone notice the narrowboat in the scene where Gertie escapes?
It didn't look much like an Edwardian boat to me! Also, what canal was it supposed to be?
It's on I-player at 47'02"
We commented on that too, seems a shame that they spent wads of cash on getting the feel of the era right and then had a shiny modern looking boat in shot.

Getting more and more excited every minute as tomorrow we're off to Braunston to spend our first night on our new (and first) boat
Will probably take it out for Sunday night up to Napton or something!
After 20 years of being on boats of one sort or another I finally have one to use whenever I want
Fantastic, what did you get and do we get pictures? I hope you have a brilliant time.

I bestow on you the 80th greenie, well said that woman!

Hi Ally
Yes, it all went very well. A few small things to look at fixing, but I will be going ahead
That's excellent news, it looks like a fine boat.

Welcome to the forum, as Robbo said when are we going to see the build blog...and also jealous much x

My hubby does this all the time and makes it look really easy. I'm just too chicken - I've got long legs so it should be really doable but I can't bring myself to do it.
That's me too, I've stuck my leg out and tried to make myself but can't!
Thank goodness for the police bloke, his cool head probably saved her life. I'm glad the woman is OK.

That's very pretty.

Don't you just love cruising down the canal meeting other boaters !!!!!!
Especially ones that could possibly be new to the task.
And yes, before anyone asks, I DID go and help them and point them in the right direction and give them a few tips.
I saw that picture and all I could think of is what is that crane doing?

We would like to move Marcellus onto a mooring on the Shroppie - somewhere south of Audlem (at the very farthest North). Our ideal location would be a small marina, with power and a nice social bunch of moorers - but definitely not a huge impersonal 'boat park'
Has anybody got any suggestions please
Thanks
How about Waldron's Moorings at Wheaton Aston or Wolverhampton boat club which I'm told is nice by some lovely people I met who moor there.

Hi again.
Would you ....
1. Use a hammer and scraper
2. Use an electric tool of some sort.
3. Use something like a hacksaw blade and run it downwards to cut the foam off...
4. Use a heated wire to "cut" the foam.
to remove all the sprayfoam from wooden batons...
I was going to say bread knife but Tam beat me to it

Hi Ally,
If you PM me your current email address which you're using, and the one you want to change to, I can update it for you.
Liam
Thanks Liam, will do.

As per title..
it's been stuck before and released with a good few 'taps' with the mooring mallet. As per advice on here I've used vaseline (Ooooer cue smutty jokes) smeared on the collar but this time it's well and truly fast.
So I'm obviously going to have to mangle it to get it off...what's the best way to mangle it or is there a way of getting it off intact...
penetrating oil?
We belted ours off with the mooring mallet...was the only way! I wasn't up for penetration and vaseline

I'm trying to change my email address but it keeps telling me that the new one is already in use, at some point I must have registered again, what can I do?

Ooh did you say glittery...I think you did
-
Oh that's funny, but so true...I love News thump.

what does sylvia's mother say?
oh is that coat taken!
I'm a geordie...we don't have coats!
-
Quite, but Jim Shead does not tell you a boat's history
I was hoping for a something as the people who have her don't know much.
-
What add is that ?
Boat for sale on gumtree.
Well that's easy, even I can do it. Put BCM into Jim Shead's search maker's box and there is only Sylvia that comes up
Roger
Ah well I did it the other way round as I had the name and number!
I was more awed that Pete instantly knew what ballast she had!
-
And if it is SYLVIA it has concrete poured over its original bottoms - never a good sign
How did you know that...are you psychic Mr Harrison, I had to search tinterwebby for hours just to find that ad. What do you know about Sylvia, it seems everyboat I think about is a pup!
-
Hahahahahaha...I *AM* stoopid, yes it has to be BCN...thanks everyone! It's 86 years old allegedly!
A typo for Black Country Narrowboats? Assuming that Black Country Metalworks haven't branched out into boatbuilding.
My first thought was the metalworks too!
-
What does BCM mean on Jim Shead's list as in "Built by BCM - Length 21.34 metres (70 feet)
I might be being thick but I just can't work it out...the boat is a joey.
Cheers me dears.

That's how I know about them, we oft bought fabric off them when I worked in telly.
