Magic Roundabout?
I've been trying to work out where the camera man was standing for the shot.
Is that a Bridgewater maintenance boat? A lot of crew for a carrier.
The camera is from the Trafford side of the ship canal, the control box/unit is to the north of the tank.

The see-saw effect is basically when your stern wave catches up with you, this happens when traveling at a speed'ish rate and then pulling back quite heavily on the rev's or even knocking it out of gear

The swing bridge at the entrance to Weston Point Dock prevents the pasage of a narrow boat. If Weston Marsh Lockl is out of action, can boats enter the Ship Canal through the dock? The bridge does not look in good shape.I Eddy Stobart now owns the dock estate,do they own the water? If so what would their response be for a request for through navigation? I am aware that there is no right of navigation on the canals. Would the dock be part of a Cruiseway, like the Weston canal. I am not aware that there has been any legal process to close the dock to navigation? Obviously,it makes sense to use Weston Marsh Lock in normal conditions, but it is a shame if the alternative route has been lost. If the old lock down to the river at Frodsham were still operable, then the problem would not arise.
This route uses Weston Point dock as a lock and the gates from the Ship canal into the dock have been left in the open position for many years. Stobart's had plans to open up Weston Point dock to the ship canal which would require sealing up the lock gates under the swing bridge and removing part of the quay to allow large ships to swing here, obviously this has never happened.

I'm posting this for any advice or comments that may help
Here's the set up on a 57ft narrowboat
It's a JP2 industrial engine with a marine fresh water centrifugal pump cooling from a skin tank. Calorifier fed from out feed from pump and return before a thermostat (72°C)
Lots of domestic hot water but output from engine only gets to 60°C max and return from skin tank 40°C
End plate on water pump has a felt seal, this is sealed by a grease cup using waterproof grease
I continuously have problems with leaks from the felt seal to which I've replaced numerous times, grease just pouring through seal, my thoughts on this being the continuous pressure from pump not being able to circulate around system
I've decided to go for a proper bearing type seal, in which I've had the end plate outer lip cut out to fit a 42mm x 28mm x 7m seal
I will post pics soon just am having phone issues!

I have owned my own boat for a number of years and done many miles on the cut. Last week a friend of mine wanted to hire a day boat for his 50th birthday and he asked me to come along to help steer the boat. I have passed many day boats in my time and always say hello. Of course some of them are just learning how to control the boat. Like I say I have done many miles in my own boat, and I cannot believe the comments and dam right nastiness of some boat owners. There are one that appear to deliberately go out of the way to force me into the side. The ones that scowl at you on the amount of people who told me to slow down when I was on tick over, leads me to believe that some of the boating community are nothing but unsociable. Some of these people need to look at themselves first. Like the one who made a comment, and his liecence on his boat had expired six months ago. Some strange people on the cut.
Stop whinging and just get on with boating

That's a nice photo, he's a real nice guy and great to chatter with, we'd buy stuff even if we didn't need it.
It's been a few years since we last seen him there and he was going on about his health then, I'm sure he drank in the willymoor and he likes the strong beers, so maybe that's the place to ask about him

Um, your hot water, which is connected to the PRV, should be separate from your coolant circuit which goes through a coil on calorifier.
Sounds like you may have a leak in the coil of your calorifier, which is a health hazard as well as antifreeze is poisonous.
I agree with this, if you have the PRV spilling straight overboard there is a risk of spraying hot water out and if you do have anti-freeze contamination you'll be killing fish!

If you want your monies worth out of a gas bottle, one problem with an auto change over is that it won't completely empty the bottle

From my notes facts and figures for Marsh lock, max. length of vessel 66.4m (218ft), max. beam 12.19m (40ft), max. draught 3.2m (10ft 6in), other locks on the Weaver will be the same dimensions

You can't beat winter cruising beautiful and peaceful, but my requirements are; trad stern, boatmans stove (toasty)

Try waterexplorer.co.uk you have to register and they have a few ways to log your journeys which can be viewed in full detail. I keep a basic manual log for the engine hours services etc

I don't fancy the idea of mole grips, as it would certainly break bits off and I'm not sure how that would effect a future proper repair. So for now it will remain as is and will probably remove the prop later in winterCould you straighten out that ding in the blade with a mole grip or large adjustable spanner on it, though the weed hatch?
It might snap off but that would still be an improvement.

Definitely got a bit of vibration on tiller, but it's soon over shadowed by the rattle after ploughing through all the long stringy weed stuff that's come down from the unnavigable stretch of the Llangollen. Which I blame on canoe'ists as C&RT presently working on launch sites in the upper part

Numpty moment must of occurred, couldn't of had one decompression valve in properly when testing rotation of engine. Solved starting problem, clutches gone in starter motor and replaced todayThat is to be expected, the compression stroke provides substantial resistance!
Are you saying the resistance is missing on cylinder 2?
-
Most likely a flat battery
Fully charged battery, getting a resistance turning flywheel seems to be on the injection of 1 cylinder inlet & exhaust valves operating as they should, checked inside and nothing obvious
-
Well its gone from bad to worse, this morning my engine is a none starter, starter motor struggling to turn fly wheel
-
Engine is about 15ft from propeller and I have checked
prop shafts and joints which appear intact, though I appreciate visual doesn't go a long way with prop shaft joints

Lister JP2 with 2:1 on paragon manual reverse gearbox
Prop is 22"

Quite a dent in end of blade, can't remember how to put pics up but will when I figure it out
The section in which it happened is very deep, this can be seen as water normally quite clear
-
Yesterday approaching the narrows to Llangollen, I had a thud in which the engine slowed and the whole boat shook, from then I had a constant rattle/ vibration on the tiller. Today I reluctantly ventured into the weed hatch to find damage to one of the prop blades.
Before I go through the process of googling, I thought I'd ask For suggestions as to repair
Tomorrow I will advise CRT of this, boat draught is 28 inches

There is someone in Crewe advertising narroboat steel fabrication and other services on ebay, but I don't have any experience of his work
How do you measure the draught of a boat?.........

That is actually the same effect, as you pass over a shallow patch at speed the restriction of water, like a block effect slows the boat down, the stern wave catches up lifting the stern.
