  1. I used Vactan. I am hoping there wont be a reaction!
  2. Update - cleaned, primed and 1 coat of potable blacking!
  3. Cheers Dave. The access is indeed tight for me to get into and work in! It seems that the tank ahs been painted before and the condition is not as bad as I feared but need attention. I have a few weeks under cover to do the work. It is he roof or underside of the tank which is in poor condition and very difficult to get to with tools are even a roller or brush!
  4. Hello all, I would like some advice on cleaning, preparing and coating my integral water tank. I have a 45ft NB (1979) that I am currently refitting. I have drained the water tank and need to plan what to do next. The attached photos show the inside which needed cleaning. Q1. After surface cleaning to get the loose material out what should I use to protect and treat the metal? Q2. What product could I use to coat the space to create a suitable water tank? Q3. What products could I use to purify the coated tank? Thanks in advance.
  5. More information - My kitchen units sit out from the side so the cooker can sit flush with them which will mean any lid will be able to rest/clip on to the 80ish deg angle. So I have around 58-60cm from the side wall. Yes, my worktop does not sit under the gunnels.
  6. Hi all, I am looking for a new gas cooker. I would like one with a lid and preferably in black. From what I understand adapters for LPG can be requested on purchase. Is this the experience with any of you? Are the jets easy to change? Does any of you have any suggestions for buying the West Midlands/Coventry area. (Of course, I will be asking a registered LPG gas fitter to install any gas pipes/connections). Thanks - Any advice is welcome.
  7. Hello, I am looking for a 56-58ft sailaway narrowboat shell. Budget around 20k. Engine, gearbox, water and fuel tank only. I have found a few builders around the country that provide (limited) information/slots for this type of shell. Need some direction in moving forward. Any advice or suggestions welcome.
  8. As was I! Back to Coventry to a mooring. Now planning another trip mid October.
  9. So we recorded a 5 minute video as we passed through again from north to south. This was for the grandchild as he loves tunnels and bridges, etc. The best bit (imho) about the footage is a bat flying around infront of us as we neared the opening! Loved it and shouldn't have stressed about the clearance too much!!! ??
  10. Update. Made it through. The clearance was around 6" At The lowest point! Thanks all!
  11. Well that is reassuring as I passed that yesterday!! Fingers crossed
  12. True!!! I'll get on to this right after breakfast!
  13. Thanks. I'm high in the water as it is! I've seen a few other posts describing the "narrowing" towards the north end.
  14. Hello! I am currently headed up the Ashby. I have a chimney that will not come off! I am concerned that it is too high for me to pass through the tunnel near the head of the Ashby. The chimney sits around 48cm above the roof with no hat etc. and close to the rear hatch and to the side. Will I pass through the tunnel with it on or do I need to get the thing off somehow? Eeeek!
  15. I came up with the same list. As I stated earlier, I have not had any success in finding anyone! Thanks for checking... Perhaps I could have been clearer to start with!
  16. I have a mooring in the city. I am able to travel too
  17. Yes, thanks, I have done that without success. I was hoping someone here may wish to share any contacts they might have locally.
  18. It has been a while since my last post! Hello all! I am currently looking for someone to fit a gas boiler and install pipes from my gas locker. I have scanned older threads and contacted a people from the suggested links. I have no luck in finding anyone. Could one of you lovely people recommend a fitter, with the needed paperwork, to work on my boat? I have no gas installed and thus need a fair bit of work done. Thanks in advance.
