Good morning all. we are currently on a riverside mooring with no shore power. we have been experiencing large air bubbles releasing from underneath the hull. We are moored on top of a fair amount of weed as pictured. Although the noise does make up jump through the night I’m more concerned about if this might have a long term affect on the hull and baseplate. any advice would be appreciated. I am hoping to put my mind at rest regarding corrosion. Many thanks

Thanks for your great advice I think I will await the survey and plan a blacking next year in better weather . I certainly won’t save any money if it doesn’t stay on.

Thanks for all your advice . The boat is coming out the first week in March and is on hard standing outside for a week after the survey. We could possibly consider blacking next year but was hoping to save some money as it’s already out.

Good morning all. I am currently in process of buying a Widebeam and it is due to come out for survey . Whilst out we are planning to Black the hill. The boat originally new was coated with two pack epoxy but the current owner covered that with Bitumen in 2020. Which should be use ? I understand two pack cannot be applied over Bitumen and also been told the two pack Hull should of been prepared before applying Bitumen. Any help gladly appreciated.

Your right I think a prm is the way to go. Really appreciate your advice. As for cables etc I take it they would need adapting to accommodate the prm box.

I had found someone who will rebuild the hurth clutch for £300 but he did say if the gears are worn it wouldn’t be worth repairing. I dunno if this is a good idea or go for a refurbished prm.

Thanks for your advice. That totally makes sense. It does not slip in reverse so I imagine that the forward gear is worn . I have seen a refurbished prm for around three hundred so I might take that route. Really appreciated thanks

Would any prm fit. I’m not really up on gearbox’s I understand it’s a mechanical gearbox and not hydraulic. But is the bolt pattern the same etc. Many thanks for your message

Good morning. No just basic cover unfortunately. It was just the case if I took it all out and sent off to be rebuilt and all the problem was is a little too much oil I’d be a little gutted. Thanks for your message

Hi to all. I currently have a 33ft narrowboat fitted with a Nanni diesel 2.60 and a hurth hbw 50. I changed the gearbox oil last year shortly after purchase. It has been fine until last week when we were cruising the gearbox started to slip when under load. River canal rescue come out and said the gearbox needs replacing. when checking the oil I had overfilled roughly around the same distance from the min to max level. my question is if I drain this oil is there a chance this was causing the problem and the gearbox might be ok?

Hi thanks for the images. That’s pretty much identical to my set up. And the repair is exactly what we done on the opposite side but still broke . I’m guessing it needs the engine alignment done. any idea on how this is done? many thanks Gavin

Hi the boat is a 1992 Allman boats. I assume the engine is the same age . It cracks it the same place every time. Had it braced with triangle either side but still snapped in the very same place. The engine mounts are r&d soft mounts if this helps

Hi and good evening. I have a 33ft narrowboat with a Nanni 2.60 kc 15 hp engine. I have a current issue with constantly breaking one engine mount bracket which bolts to the engine in a L shape . I have had it welded and braced to support it but still has managed to snap. I have checked the number of threads on each mount and they seem even . The engine mounts seem ok but I’m by no means a expert.Any advice would be much appreciated . Many thanks
