  1. Hi all, fitted a new Combimaster inverter yesterday and don’t like the idea of it running 24/7 even when on shore power. Would like to be able to switch from mains to inverter at will, especially at night. I know I will need the inverter on to top up my batteries, but i’m thinking I can extend the working life of the inverter by doing this. Any thoughts on a possible changeover switch/procedure? Obviously it would have to be one or the other and never both, so some kind of 2 pole changeover? Keith
  2. Truth is probably not, 2kw has been fine to date, but I'm thinking it's better to have too much than just enough, and my system doesn't need any wiring upgrading. Also I'm guessing 2kw comes easier to a 3kw inverter than a 2kw, might be totally wrong in that one?
  3. Tried Mastervolt uk, discounts are given for failures within 10years apparently. Worth a try though.
  4. Well worth a try, thanks for that, will let you know how I get on.
  5. Thanks to all, think it’s going to be a 3000va model.
  6. Leisure batteries are 3x210Ah isolator cabling is all 70mm.
  7. Battery capacity I’m not sure is the honest answer, 3 deep cycle agm’s replaced the original 4 Mastervolt, but I can’t find any capacity reference in my paperwork, will have to crawl into the compartment to check. Cable size is 70mm and the batteries are less than a metre from the inverter.
  8. Hi all, my Mastervolt 2KW inverter/charger has blown up, so I’m going to replace it with another from the same manufacturer, as it has lasted 14yrs without many issues. Decided upon a 3kw this time, just wondered if anyone had been through this process and has any words of wisdom for me, like any pitfalls in the change process, cheapest place to buy etc. I’m obviously researching it myself, but would be grateful for any useful input. Keith
  9. Thanks all, will look at mounting it better and soundproofing, and if all else fails, earplugs!!!
  10. Hi, fairly new to boating still. Have a Mikuni Mx40 diesel boiler that I think is very noisy, sounds like it’s constantly firing, making a ticking noise! Works fine and shows no error codes, are they known for being noisy?
  11. Hi, still new to all this boating stuff, having purchased my first boat about six weeks back, so bear with me on this question please. I am currently moving from house to boat (need to be completely moved by August 11th), and I don’t travel, especially tools wise, which have mostly found a home in my boat mans cabin. Should I be removing some ballast to compensate for the substantial increase in weight, as surely I’m increasing draught, which is stated at 30”. Thanks Keith.
  12. My 24hr is up at 6pm today, otherwise I’d stay here and move on to Scarisbrick tomorrow. May just look for a likely spot en route, I’ve been in the Heatons Bridge ph a couple of times, and think there’s a spot there from memory.
  13. Hi, anyone know a decent mooring on the Leeds Liverpool, between Parbold and Scarisbrick? I’m currently at Parbold 24hr, moving on to Scarisbrick marina tomorrow, so need another night.
  14. Not yet, will probably get no joy today, being Sunday, but will try tomorrow. Thanks.
  15. Morning all, being a complete apple nut, all my devices are of that persuasion, and I find I cannot download the RCR Waternav app (apple store just doesn’t have it). Are there any good gps alternatives to this app that do work on apple devices? I have Canalplan, but it will not allow me to save a planned route, or maybe it’s me that’s technically inept! Any suggestions please? Keith
  16. Not sure I’ll have time to collect all the list, but I’ll do my best and pick up the rest en route! Was given some Nicholson guides from about 30yrs ago, but I guess they’ve moved on some since then? So I’d better buy new I guess.
  17. Not one that I saw, but I must admit I didn’t look through all posts, so I’m grateful all replies.
  18. Thanks all, I’ve put beer on the top of the list, as you mentioned it twice.
  19. Thank you, not sure what they class a full cruising kit, but I’ve asked for an inventory, and there’s chandlery on the pickup marina, I was more concerned about anything I need to buy from CRT, are those two keys all that’s required from them?
  20. Evening all, we’re soon to embark on our first cruise as boat owners want to be sure we have everything we need for the trip. The boat has I’m told a full kit, but what do I need in the way of keys etc? I know waterways key and handcuff key are essential, is there anything else we’re likely to need? We’re planning on using the North Oxford/Trent and Mersey/Bridgewater and Leeds Liverpool. Thanking you as always!
  21. Had a chat with him thanks, very helpful.
  22. Thanks for list, very good! I especially like No10 which I have begun to practice even prior to ownership ? Would if I could figure out how to do that!
  23. I’m having a full survey done, hopefully it will go through ok, but you never know do you. Then I could be looking for a Gardner or Lister manual.
