  1. Thanks Jen I'll give that a go. ☺ And thanks for everyones replies, much appreciated.
  2. Please does anyone know an 'LPG BOAT' registered gas engineer that'll come out to Oxford, on the Oxford Canal??? I need a new combi boiler fitted. I would fit myself but I am told for my insurence and boat saftey to be valid it must be fitted by an 'LPG BOAT' engineer, and the last person I found was LPG but not LPG BOAT. Many thanks.
  3. Ah thats great thanks for that. Looks like a serious bit of kit. We have gone for a cheap rolling contract (so we can get out anytime) with three, and a mifi router for 38 quid, and 24 a month. We'll see how we get on with that. If I find I dont have signal and it limits my work Ill go for something like this... Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  4. Thanks, well we are going to be all over the place, so I am sure we'll have periods in areas with minimal signal! So I am keen to get a good set up with external ariels, but am not sure which brand to go with. Could you please let us know - what is the make and model of your system?
  5. Thanks for your advice. More specifically I am wondering what all these more advanced systems are all about! We could just use our phones for wifi but is there something that'll give us a better connection?! Such as ariels on the roof conmected to some kind of router!! Any advice more advanced systems would be great, as Id like to ensure the fastest connection possible whilst C.Cing. I'll be teaching online over skype, and so I'll need a fast connection. Thanks.
  6. Wifi??? What is the best most efficient set up?! We are complete newbies so any advice is much appreciated... Thanks ?
  7. I'm not sure yet, hopefully a decent lithium ion battery bank and plenty of solar will cover short periods away from the boat. If we leave it for longer then it'll have hook up in a marina.
  8. I agree, I want to have a secure boat, but not make it too obvious Ive gone overboard with security. Still an alarm system is worth it, and maybe a hidden camera! And I think I'll get steel doors and a good safe!
  9. We're buying our first boat next month and I want to play it safe with security. So we are thinking decent locks for doors and hatches, security lights, cctv cameras linked to our phones, a decent alarm system, a safe, and of course our ferocious dog haha. But we have no idea on the best brands to go for to maximise the security on our boat, so any advice on this equipment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ?
  10. Thanks Jen for those links. Very informative. I'm starting to build an idea of what I'll need now. May be worth having a small gene rather than running the engine for the winter months. I am hoping in summer we can get by mostly on solar.
  11. Hi everyone, My partner and I are new to living on a narrowboat. We are going to be continous cruisers and we want to make sure we set up a decent electronics system on the boat. We are complete begginners so any advice is very much welcome. So I would like to know which are the best solar panels to buy?! Info on batteries etc. We dont want to be short of electric so we are going for plenty of solar panels, and we have a washing machine to run etc. Any advice on the perfect set up for a 55ft narrowboat is hugly appreciated. Many thanks, James.
  12. Have narrowboat prices increased or decreased over the last 5/10 years??? And is it likely that if I buy a narrowboat now that it will hold its value?! Or do you think prices could drop? Or increase?! And why?!?!?!?! Thanks ?
